Chair of Trustees AGM report 2021 season. (Jan’ 27th AGM 2022)
It seems a very long time ago now that the Club and specifically our group of Trustees were tasked with implementing systems and procedures that would enable us to commence the 2020 cricket season under the pressure of an unknown Global Pandemic. The eventual outcome of a very fragmented cricket season was that as a group of Trustees along with the passion of our club members to “get the game on” we were not only successful in providing cricket for everyone but we created a structure that left the club in a stable position to ride out the impact of Covid and enable us to move forward in 2021.
2021 continued very much in the same manner as the previous year. Due to Covid our Trustee meetings continued on Zoom but “on the ground we were very proactive in initiating action points and investing funds into improving facilities for benefit of all members.
The role of Trustees is to ask the question have we as a collective been successful in carrying out our duties? The duty of Trustees can be outlined as thus:
-
To look to the future – especially focusing on the encouragement & development of young members of the club. We are very fortunate as a club to have an abundance of young enthusiastic junior members. 2021 was once again a very different year but our team of Junior Coaches were successful in encouraging these young players to enjoy and benefit from their experiences. My thanks go to Tim, Richard,Kathryn and all those who assisted in providing exceptional coaching once again.
-
To encourage the involvement of new members – playing or non - playing volunteers; family and parents of juniors. We like to think of the Club as a “family” and this is I believe is confirmed by the amount of people who enjoy the cricket and facilities we provide at Rudgate Fields. We have managed to encourage a number of new Junior Members along this year and have benefitted from the involvement of Junior parents. Match Days see an ever increasing number of spectators who often kindly volunteer their services to the benefit of the Club. My thanks go out to everyone for their kind and continued support.
-
Engage with the local community. We very much feel part of the Whixley & district local community. We are proud to provide facilities for all to enjoy.
-
Protection of assets; raising funds and resources; maintain solvency & sustainability. This year we were very fortunate to benefit from five Harrogate Borough Council Covid related “Start Up” Grants equating to approximately £17,500. A further England & Wales Cricket Board Return to Cricket Grant for £2200 was also received. Due to the financial impact Covid has had on many of our kind sponsors we have struggled to raise funds this year. Our thanks go to everyone who could generously provide funds to aid the running of the Club this year. Mainly due to the benefiting of Grants for HBC we are in a stable financial position with funds available to invest in the running of the Club. As highlighted at our most recent Trustees meeting we are very aware that we need to generate funds from where ever possible as we cannot rely upon a current healthy bank balance. Initiatives have been discussed and will be implemented this year.
This year saw the investment of funds in benches for the enjoyment of all spectators and the improvement of our square and outfield playing surfaces. Further capital investment initiatives have been highlighted and resources have been allocated for future purchases such as a new wicket roller and storage facilities.
Legal accounting and reporting requirements. Our record of accounts are available for all members to view and we are very fortunate to benefit from the professional expertise of Tim and Charles in producing these documents.
-
Child welfare & protection; Management of accreditations: Health & Safety of everyone . We are very fortunate and grateful to have members of the club who have generously taken on roles to facilitate our compliance with these very important topics. Our thanks go to Kathryn who has very kindly taken on the role of Child Welfare Officer with responsibility for Safeguarding. Without the enthusiasm of Kathryn.Richard,Iain and Tim we would not be able to provide cricket for all, from Safeguarding to Covid operating procedures we are very grateful for your commitment.
-
To promote & successfully communicate the aim of our cricket club.
-
Through the recording of Trustee meeting minutes we are able to communicate our aims and show successful completion of actions. We promote our Club through the use of Social Media and encourage all members to “spread the word” with friends and family.
To conclude I would like to put on record my thanks to my fellow Trustees for their commitment and enthusiasm in guiding the club through these challenging times, we can only keep trying to move forward and provide cricket and facilities for everyone to enjoy.
