**LES AMIS – BURKINA FASO Registered Charity 1120772** ## **ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE PERIOD 1[ST] SEPTEMBER 2023 – 31[ST] AUGUST 2024** Les Amis – Burkina Faso was registered on 5[th] September 2007 - 1) **A meeting of the Trustees** (Gillie Nicholls, David Nicholls and Jude O'Mara Spicer) was held 20[th] April 2024. - 2) **Talks and presentations** There were no talks or presentations given this year. - 3) **Trip 2024** - For the sixth year running, there was no trip due to terrorist activity. ## 4) **Our Regular Projects** - a) The Yoann Foundation henceforward known as the Madonna & Child Project - b) The Diocese of Koupéla (Baskouré home for girls, St Monique Home, Ex-St Monique pupils (now university students). - c) Ziniaré Home for girls - d) Ab Paul Nazotin - e) Ab Lambert Sawadogo - f) St Joseph’s Training Centre in Fada - g) Tenkodogo Diocese - a) **The Yoann Foundation for disabled women and children** This has been rebranded ‘Madonna & Child’ and is solely run by the Capucin Friars. The fund currently assists 20 handicapped children and 19 vulnerable women. The support the mothers of handicapped children receive is money which goes towards helping the women to meet food, housing, medical and physiotherapy costs, school fees and also materials with which to make things to sell (primarily soap). It remains an important aspect of this Foundation that the women and children get together socially regularly throughout the year. They continue to be given a meal every two months. The vulnerable older women are given food. ## Total sent this year Yoann Foundation (now Madonna & Child) **7,500** - b) **Diocese of Koupéla: protecting and educating girls** We continue to finance a **refuge for girls in Baskouré** which houses young girls who have run away from a forced young marriage or from areas of terrorist activity. Our giving covers food, electricity, housing, clothes, healthcare costs and training the girls in a trade (making clothes, embroidery, brewing the local beer, weaving, soap-making, raising of livestock and growing vegetables being some of their past/current activities). We continue to fund **St Monique Home** in Gounghin (for secondary school-aged girls), all of whom are orphaned of either one or both parents. We continue to include **OCADES** in our giving. OCADES is an organisation which works to give training to disadvantaged girls and women. This is an extremely successful project and is run by Ab Pascal SILGA. Ziniaré Home **1,000** ## d) **Priest of the Fada N’Gourma Diocese** We continue to give funds for the purpose of his being able to help, in a direct and practical way, the many individuals who approach us for assistance. This method of reaching out to the destitute is extremely valuable to Les Amis. Give away and projects **8,900** e) **Priest of the Kaya Diocese** We continue to give funds for the purpose of helping not only various individuals, but also a group of women to access training in specific skills: cooking, hairdressing, sewing, embroidery and handicraft.
