LES AMIS – BURKINA FASO Registered Charity 1120772

ANNUAL SUMMING UP FOR THE PERIOD: 1[ST] SEPTEMBER 2021 – 31[ST] AUGUST 2022

Les Amis – Burkina Faso was registered on 5[th] September 2007

1) Talks and presentations

Gillie was delighted, on Wednesday 11[th] May 2022, to give the first talk in over two years, since the lifting of Covid restrictions. On this occasion it was to the Mothers’ Union of Cranleigh where the turnout was good and £225 was raised.

For the fourth year running, there was no trip due to terrorist activity.

3) Our Regular Projects

The fund currently assists 22 handicapped children and 18 vulnerable women. The support the mothers of handicapped children receive is money which goes towards helping the women to meet food, housing, medical and physiotherapy costs, school fees and also materials with which to make things to sell (primarily soap). It remains an important aspect of this Foundation that the women and children get together socially regularly throughout the year. They continue to be given a meal every two months. The vulnerable older women are given food.

Total sent this year

Yoann Foundation 11,760

We have continued to finance a refuge in Baskouré which houses young girls who have run away from a forced young marriage. Our giving covers food, electricity, housing, clothes, healthcare costs and training the girls in a trade (making clothes, embroidery, brewing the local beer, weaving, soap-making, raising of livestock and growing vegetables). This year, they made an urgent appeal to help them secure a water source. We sent them the necessary £5,800 which funded the drilling and fitting of a solar powered pump.

We have continued to fund 20 girls through primary school and 10 girls through secondary school (these are looked after by St Monique Home ). All secondary school girls are orphaned of either one or both parents. We have also continued to give donations to the Gounghin Nursery School . We have continued to include OCADES in our giving. OCADES is an organisation which works to give training to disadvantaged girls and women.

Giving to the Diocese of Koupéla this year:

Baskouré Refuge (basic)£5,000, plus for the water pump and tower (£5,800) 10,800

St Monique Home (for10 secondary school orphaned girls) 2,200

c) Priest of the RC Diocese of Fada N’Gourma

We continue to give funds to this priest for the purpose of his being able to help, in a direct and practical way, the many individuals who approach him for assistance. This method of reaching out to the destitute is extremely valuable to Les Amis.

Priest of the RC Diocese of Fada N’Gourma 4,400

d) Priest of the RC Diocese of Kaya

We have been happy to give this priest money to help not only various individuals, schools and also a group of women to access training in specific skills: cooking, hairdressing, sewing, embroidery and handicraft. At the end of their training each one receives support to set them up in business.
