delivery of the services and have contributed an
astonishing 1917 hours of mediation, conflict
coaching, delivering training, networking website
and financial administration. Theirsuccess of the
serviceis due to their professionalism,unwavering

dedication and commitment. Their contributions have been instrumental in fostering a culture of understanding and collaboration within communities, and has restored harmony amidst conflict. Volunteers have played a pivotal role in expanding the reach of our mediation services, ensuring that individuals from all walks of life have access to fair and impartial conflict resolution processes. Para 1.20 This year MACS assisted in 81 cases including
neighbour disputes, school cyber bullying (2),
Parent/young person(8), workplace conflicts (2)
and whole community conflicts (3). Our team
worked directly with 219 people with further 51
known family members benefitting indirectly.
The majority of our referrals are made by Housing
Associations, Local Authorities and the Police, with
19 self referrals both locally and from further afield.
The neighbourhood and community disputes
covered a variety of issues including,
communication, noise, high hedges, boundaries,
property upkeep, children’s behaviour, parking and
social media
Often clients will classify the dispute as hate crime,
anti-social behaviour, harassment or intimidation. .
Their accounts include their despair, effects on
their lifestyle, physical and mental wellbeing, all
indicate the severity of the affect that conflicts
have on them.
The delivery of mediation and conflict coaching
has been both in person and online allowing
clients the option to choose their preferred and
most convenient method of engagement. Our new
approach which offers initial conflict support
encompasses Conflict coaching prior to and
instead of mediation, which has assisted
participants to work on their own reactions to
conflict and to prepare them for dealing with issues
more constructively, it has also been helpful to
prepare for conversations where the potential for
conflict has been recognised. Workplace Mediation
cases have included communication and welfare
issues.
Through our work with clients and referral
agencies, it has become evident that many
individuals are not receiving the right support at
critical times. The existing processes frequently
exacerbate relationships rather than healing them.
Whether the stimulus of their distress is the conflict
with neighbours or the very systems intended to
assist them, the impact is profound. We know that
hurt people hurt people and with the rise in hate
speech and violence it is agrowingconcern.

MACS has taken proactive steps to address this issue through public awareness and by urging those working for referral agencies to look at their procedures to minimize negative consequences and foster constructive conflict resolution." The impact of the work included a reduction in repeat reporting of anti-social behaviour and neighbour complaints. As well as resolving their conflicts, people who used the services reported improvements in their relationships, commitment to dealing with issues early, reductions in stress levels and more confidence in dealing with difficult situations. Participants said “I think something has been unlocked for me, thank you” (coaching neighbour dispute) “ I am going to recommend you to all my friends, the mediation allowed us to achieve an even better outcome than I had hoped for” (High hedge mediation) . “This has been a game changer! I shared the booklet (NVC)with S (daughter) and the next day we talked using the lists – now all is calm.” (Parent/Teen a Conflict coaching session with Mum where we introduced Non-violent Communication) “Though the situations isn’t completely resolved, the coaching sessions helped me to plan for meetings with the school, which went much better than previous ones” (Conflict and NVC coaching for parent dealing with cyberbullying) “The conflict support work was brilliant. Now that we (neighbour) have sorted it out through mediation, the council need to understand that their heavy, threatening letter made it even worse…” (Neighbour) Mediation) Our arrangement to provide mediation under a Service Level Agreement with Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council came to an end. Rugby Borough commissioned our services and we have worked collaboratively to resolve issues such as the initial low referral rate. This included attending regular meetings and providing refresher training officers in conflict resolution awareness. The Police and Crime Commissioner’s Grant has ensured that neighbours experiencing ASB and grievances were supported throughout Warwick and Stratford Districts and referrals have been

received from the Police, District housing providers, environmental services and other local housing associations. Homes Plus, a housing provider has engaged with us to provide mediation and conflict coaching fpr their tenants. Parent/Young Person mediation has supported eight parents and their dependent children to work on family conflicts. Conflict Coaching, a complementary service to mediation, has been provided both via telephone and internet. MACS’s volunteer mediators provide a timely and professional service and continue to support the service by offering their skills in other areas , including IT and website managent, and promote the service whenever possible, including talking to local faith and community groups. 192 people have engaged in training and activities to increase their capacity to engage in conflict constructively. We have delivered training referral officers in Conflict Resolution awareness, refresher training for mediators, training and workshops for groups in Reconciliation skills to increase their capacity to manage conflict constructively through the use of Non-violent Communication. Feedback has indicated new skills and confidence in dealing with conflict constructively and an eagerness to continue developing skills on future courses. Some of the feedback included: “Knowledge of conflict coaching and the importance of using language non violently a game changer’ “At the beginning… thought we were going over what we already knew… but realised later the significance of it! We all need to change how we do things!” “As well at the training being great, I love the way you reflect your language you teach in the way you speak and even in the evaluation form questions!”

Note 2 Accounting policies

2.2 INCOME

These are included in the Statement of Financial Activities (SoFA) when:

Recognition of income

• the charity becomes entitled to the resources; • it is more likely than not that the trustees will receive the resources;

• the monetary value can be measured with sufficient reliability.

There has been no offsetting of assets and liabilities, or income and expenses, unless Offsetting required or permitted by the FRS 102 SORP or FRS 102. Grants and donations are only included in the SoFA when the general income Grants and donations recognition criteria are met (5.10 to 5.12 FRS102 SORP). Stocks held for sale as part of non-charitable trade are measured at the lower or cost or net realisable value.

Work in progress is valued at cost less any foreseeable loss that is likely to occur on the contract.
