Keith this year spoke about our shared history and the history of the society. He implored members to look back at show programmes and look at the numerous shows we have performed over the years. Take a moment and see when you became part of the society and remember the fun, pitfalls, memories and special moments we have all shared. Keith reminisced about when he joined in 1957 and looking back at all the roles he has had and the shows and the importance but also noted how times have changed; including how our audience is now mainly females and in years gone by how lines formed to buy tickets face to face. Keith says he is somewhat of a traditionalist and some of the shows are now deemed old fashioned but he is excited and applauds us moving forward with newer modern shows and setting examples for others to see; and how the mayor loved Sister Act. Keith again looked back at all the venues we have performed in, saying Heywood Civic will always be home but for now we decamp to Middleton Arena before we return. Keith’s closing remarks … we are small but mighty! ## _**Keith Greenwood President**_ ## _**What is H.A.O.D.S. & HEYKIDS all about**_ ## _**…..**_ The Society was formed in 1930, and is affiliated to the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) and to the Greater Manchester Drama Federation (GMDF). In 1990 the junior section Hey Kids was formed. The society produces two full musicals each year: one for the senior section (16+) and one for Hey Kids (8 -18). The society also performs plays and concerts from time to time. The senior show is normally in early March each year, and the Hey Kids show in mid-October. All performances are held at Heywood Civic Centre. Rehearsals for the shows are normally held on Monday and Wednesday evenings, with additional Sunday afternoon rehearsals for the last few weeks before the show goes on. The rehearsals for the senior show usually run from October to March each year, and for the Hey Kids show from May to October, with a break for the summer holidays. Throughout the year the Hey Kids don their brightly coloured Hey Kids T-shirts and take part in various activities to raise money for their society. Such activities include bag packing at Morrison’s Heywood, carol singing and various other activities. And as you can imagine singing Christmas carols in December wearing those T-shirts shows how committed these young thespians really are! ## **REVIEW OF THE YEAR 2022/2023** Over the previous 12 months we have returned to some sort of normality (whatever that is) after COVID. Last October, our talented Hey Kids performed for the very last time at the now old Civic centre after 30plus years. Selling over 1400 tickets. They are very excited to be performing this year’s show at Middleton Arena. Next time they return to the civic, it will be a brand new and hopefully much more suited to our needs venue. Oliver was an outstanding success, receiving many nominations from both NODA and GMDF in which Tilly Smith won at both district and regional level for her outstanding performance and portrayal of Nancy at not one, but all three awards evenings. I don’t think we could be any prouder of the young talented lady she has become. Sarah, Ceri and Rebecca also received nominations for their production team, with Ceri winning best Musical Director in District 7. Max Kenyon winning best supporting male, we won best staging of youth production and myself proud winner of best programme. Noda also awarded Nick our chairman with the prestigious Brightest shining star Male at the awards ceremony in February, for his amazing performance and portrayal of the lovely Lola and Simon in Kinky Boots and im sure you will all agree was truly, very well deserved. Hey Kids on tour sang their little hearts out at various venues and nursing facilities throughout Heywood, spreading Christmas Cheer to our older generation and to many a loyal supporter. We received some donations for our time and efforts. Our fabulous singing nuns took to the stage in their final show in the old civic hall, in Sister Act which is now one of our best selling productions to date. jo, Katie and David really did us all proud and their hard work certainly shone through in the reviews, nominations and winners from GMDF and sheer joy from every single one of our 1800 audience members. Aimee Clare winning the best actress in a lead role for her performance in sister act. David, Jo, Katie and Stephanie all receiving nominations. I dont think the society could be any prouder of the sheer amount of talent that we have in just this our society. Well done to everyone. Huge thanks to The fundraising team, who at Christmas held a successful wreath making event at St James and raised over £450. Gillian again worked up very hard to arrange an Easter Raffle that proved very successful again in March also selling 160 tickets through the amazing power of social media. Hopefully now we can get back on track and coordinate lots of events to raise money and the profile of our society. Many thanks to Martin who constantly updated the banking app and us on the purchase of raffle tickets, which was no easy task. ## _**TREASURER’S REPORT**_ As a society we need to remember that we are all one and the same, even though the sections have their own budgets we have one account and all profits or losses affect the society as a whole. I am reporting on the financial year June 2022 to May 2023. The formal accounts for this year have been prepared by our accountants, from records kept by myself. There are copies of the accounts available. These are the same as previous years. I don’t propose to go through the accounts in detail but if you have any questions I will be happy to answer them at the end of my report. However, there are a few things that I wish to mention, as follows:- Overall we have a profit of £19098 this is compromised of the following ## **General Account** We show a loss of 4612in this general account, this is compromised of all the expenditures not associated with a particular show, for example insurance, memberships, rent for meeting rooms ## **The Senior Account** The Senior account shows a profit of 19433 this is due to 2 fantastic shows operating within this year Kinky boots and Sister Act. Sister Act made a profit of £12000 approx. ## **The Junior Account** On the junior show (Oliver), we made a profit of £4278. Again this was due to the hard work of the production team to keep costs down, and the hard work of members of the society in securing funding for lights and set. As with any society fundraising plays a large part in this and we wouldn’t be in the position we are without the hard work of members of the society in organizing fundraising events. This year we have had raffles and show souvenirs to raise extra funds.Any ideas for future fundraising would be much appreciated and can be sent to the any member of the exec for consideration If anyone in the society hears of a grant or fund that we could apply for please pass in the details to the exec committee so that we can put together applications. As a society we need to remember that we are all one and the same, even though the sections have their own budgets we have one account and all profits or losses affect the society as a whole. Profits help to balance out the expenditures from the general section that help to keep the society running.
