Section C Objectives and activities
| Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit) |
AHDT is a non-partisan voluntary charity that works to facilitate the development and provision of health care in African communities, focusing currently on northern Nigeria. Some of our activities include the acquisition and supply of medical equipment to health centres, transfer of medical skills and knowledge through training and mentoring, and provision of pro-bono medical services by members. |
|---|---|
| During the reporting year, the charity undertook activities aligned with its charitable objects, with a focus on improving access to healthcare and essential support for underserved and remote communities in Nigeria. Trustees have had due regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit and have ensured that all activities were carried out to deliver clear and identifiable public benefit. In response to the challenges of reaching remote and rural populations, the charity collaborated with local and international partners to extend its impact. The charity partnered with Dechi Health Trust Fund and participated in the Microsoft Global Hackathon in September 2024 to co- develop a telehealth application,e-Likita, designed to support healthcare delivery in rural communities. The application was successfully deployed and piloted in Gembu, Taraba State, North-Eastern Nigeria, improving access to medical consultation and support in an underserved area. The charity also supported healthcare outreach initiatives by contributing expertise and volunteers. In December 2024, members supported a three-day ‘Eye Camp’ outreach in Gombe State, North-Eastern Nigeria, delivered in collaboration with a local clinic, Annur Eye Clinic. Although no direct financial contribution was made, the charity’s involvement supported the delivery of essential eye care services to vulnerable populations. In addition, regularly partners with a local charity on the gound in Northern Nigeria, the Foundation for Refugee Economic Empowerment (FREE) to provide targeted interventions to disadvantaged people going through difficult times and responding to humanitarian needs arising from natural disasters, e.g., flood relief and donation of medicines. During the year, following flooding in Maiduguri, North-Eastern Nigeria, the charity collaborated with FREE to support affected communities through malaria chemoprophylaxis distribution and nutritional support for malnourished children, contributing to improved health outcomes during a crisis period. Through the generosity of its donors/patrons, AHDT continues to support two orphanages in North-Western Nigeria, thereby impacting the lives of orphaned children through provision of shelter, feeding and education. The charity also continues to fund, through a major donor, an important hydrocephalus research collaboration with the University of Manchester here in the UK. We confirm that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit. |

Furthermore, the charity played a critical role in emergency humanitarian response efforts following flooding in Maiduguri, North-Eastern Nigeria, on 14 November 2024. Through collaboration with local partners, over 100 children were reached with malaria prevention support and nutritional assistance, addressing urgent health and welfare needs. Also, through the generosity of its donors/patrons, AHDT continues to impact on the lives of orphaned children through provision of shelter, feeding and education. Independent Examiner’s Statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
