Supporting the Fight Against Malaria in Northern Nigeria Project: (Region: North-Western Nigeria): August-September 2021 In view of the Coronavirus pandemic and its aftermath, AHDT has not engage in its usual medical outreach programmes in the last two years. However, as in 2020, it partnered with a local charity on the gound in Northern Nigeria, the Foundation for Refugee Economic Empowerment (FREE) in the_Supporting the Fight Against Malaria in Northern Nigeria_ Project, which is a community-based health initiative that seeks to protect rural poor people, particularly those under the age of 5, from the devastating impact of malaria on their lives. The programme is in its second year. During the year, through the generosity of its donors/patrons, AHDT disbursed a total of£110,283.03to various intervention projects and causes that have had a huge impact on the less privileged members of society, mainly in northern Nigeria, as well as to fund an important hydrocephalus research collaboration with the University of Manchester here in the UK. We also confirm that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit. |

| Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year |
|
| As mentioned in section C above, AHDT has not engage in its usual medical outreach programmes in the last two years due to the Coronavirus pandemic and its aftermath. However, it partnered with a local charity on the gound in Northern Nigeria, the Foundation for Refugee Economic Empowerment (FREE) in the_Supporting the Fight Against Malaria in_ Northern Nigeria Project, which is a community-based health initiative that seeks to protect rural poor people, particularly those under the age of 5, from the devastating impact of malaria on their lives. The programme is in its second year. Under the intervention, AHDT through local donors, provided FREE with malaria drugs, specifically5000 packs of Cartef 20/120(each pack with 24 tablets) for distribution in five (5) Northern Nigerian States (Bauchi, Taraba, Kebbi, Zamfara and Katsina). FREE identified the communities for implementation, devised the project targeting criteria, and distributed the medications to people in need, along with sensitization on malaria prevention. The breakdown is as follows: Bauchi (800), Taraba (800), Kebbi (200), Zamfara (1200) and Katsina (2000). Beneficiaries were primarily IDPs, widows, orphans and the less privileged. It is estimated that the project reached approximately 35,000 individuals (based on Cluster standard of approximately 7 persons per HH) who live in high risk hyperendemic malaria areas and constantly face life-threatening episodes of malaria attack. During the year, AHDT also disbursed a total of£20,000.00to AYTAM Orphanage/School, an orphanage and school in Zaria, Kaduna State, northern Nigeria, that has been a beneficiary of specific donations from one of AHDT’s patrons and proprietor of Wise Pharmacy in Manchester. A similarly disbursement of£16,000.00from another AHDT patron/donor was made to a project supporting orphans’ welfare in Gumel, Jigawa State, northern Nigeria. AHDT also disbursed funds worth£70,000.00to University of Manchester for Hydrocephalus research, which the charity is partnering on with the University. |

| Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves Details of any funds materially in deficit |
|
| As yet, there is no fixed policy on reserves due to the charity’s modest finances. However, the charity has the practice of not using up the entire balance in its bank account at any given time. We normally maintain a balance of at least one thousand pounds (£1000.00). |

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT ON THE FINANCIAL STATEMENT FOR THE PERIOD FROM 1ST APRIL 2021 TO 31ST MARCH 2022
I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31[st] March 2022, which are set out on pages 3 to 6 .
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year (under Section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to:
-
i. Examine the accounts under Section 145 of the Act.
-
ii. Follow the procedures laid down in the general directives given by the Charity Commission under Section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and
-
iii. To state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of Independent Examiner’s Report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general directives given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosure in the accounts and seeking explanation from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the account.
Independent Examiner’s Statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
-
which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:
-
a) to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Act; and
-
b) to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Act
-
have not been met; or
-
to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
