Objectives and Activities
Summary of objectives set out in the governing document
The trustees must apply the income of the charity in furthering the objects of the charity as set out in the Charity deed: -
-
(i) promote and encourage the physical development of pupils at schools in Bury St Edmunds by making grants to enable rugby union football to be included in the schools curricula.
-
(ii) to promote community participation in healthy recreation for the benefit of the public of Bury St Edmunds and by the provision of funding, training and facilities for playing rugby union football.
-
(iii) and to relieve the sickness and poverty of persons in Bury St Edmunds who have sustained an injury whilst playing rugby union football, as the trustees in their discretion may decide.
Summary of main activities undertaken for public benefit
In planning its activities for the year, the trust kept in mind the Charity Commissions guidance on public benefit at its Trustee’s meetings.
The focus of activities remains to support the club's community rugby programme which provides free training sessions, free meals and the delivery of rugby in schools and the community.
This support is principally through the funding of coaching by rugby union player coaches and qualified players. This coaching benefits all ages and is open to all regardless of personal background, faith, or personal circumstances.
Summary of the main achievement of the charity during the year
The Trust was unable to provide direct financial support for the club's community rugby programme during the year.
However, during the year the trust raised funds from a sponsored charity bike ride in memory of club members killed in the 1975 Paris Air Disaster.
The funds raised from this event have been treated as “Restricted Funds" as the funds are to be used to support the development of the club's infrastructure for the further enhancement of rugby facilities for the benefit of the public of Bury St Edmunds.

The Haberden Trust
Independent examiner's report to the Trustees of The Haberden Trust For the year ended 30 June 2025
| report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 30 June 2025, which are set out on pages 5 and 6.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed. | am qualified to undertake the examination by being a qualified member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
it is my responsibility to:
-
® examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;
-
e to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioner under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and
-
e to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner's report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioner. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and the seeking of explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent examiner's statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
-
° which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements:
-
(a) to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and
-
(b) to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act have not been met; or
-
° to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
