Chair Report 2024
Over the past 12 months, our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers have had the opportunity to learn an
abundance of new skills and participate in a diverse range of activities. There has been cooking, climbing,
lantern-making, hiking, kayaking, pioneering, rifle shooting, life-saving, go karting, expeditions and much more
besides.
We have come together as a Group to parade on Remembrance Sunday, teamed up with other local Sections
for activity days and joined other members of our District to celebrate St George's Day.
There have been visits to the library, the air ambulance station, Suffolk Adventure Golf, the Secret Nuclear
Bunker and to London- and camping trips to places such as the New Forest and Derbyshire.
We are immensely proud that one of our Explorers was selected to take part in the World Scout Jamboree and
whilst her trip to South Korea didn't go quite according to plan, nevertheless she had the adventure of a lifetime.
Enabling our young people to develop the necessary skills, attributes and confidence to succeed throughout
their lifetime is fundamental to what Scouting is about. Each badge that is awarded takes our young members a
step further along this path and we are so proud of the progress that they have all made over the past year,
particularly those who have achieved awards during this time.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the support of our fabulou5 volunteer team who give so much
of their time to ensure that our members benefit from these wonderful experiences. We are so fortunate to have
such a dedicated and experienced team of volunteers, who work together and share their skills so willingly.
Thank you all ft)r everything that you do.
We are also blessed to have such amazing facilities here at 8ures and, as always, our thanks go to Paul and all
those who help him to maintain these amenities to such a high standard.
Thanks also to Tony for his steadfast leadership and guidance over the past 12 months and to our team of
Trustees who not only ensure that our Group continues to run smoothly, but also organise a variety of
fundraising activities throughout the year.
Looking ahead to the coming year, we hope to continue to offer our young people all of the incredible
opportunities and amazing experiences that make being a member of 1 st Bures Scout Group so special. In
order for us to do this, I would encourage as many people as possible to join us and assist us in whatever way
they can. Whether that's sharing a skill with one of our groups, helping us with fundraising activities or the
maintenance of our grounds, or joining our team of volunteers on a more regular basis. Scouting has so much
to offer you tool
Yours in scouting,
Helen Foster
