The governo￿. who are also the Trustees and directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006.
P￿sent their annual report and financial statements for the year ended 31 August 2024.
The financial stalemenls have been prepared in accordance wilh the accounting policies Set out in note 1 to the
financial statements and comply with the chanty's goveming document. the Companies Act 2006 and "Accounling
and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practice applicab18 to charities p￿paring their accounts in
accordance with the Financial Repo￿ng Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland {FRS 1021"
leffecllve 1 January 2019).
ObSectlves and activities
The charity's objects are lo advance the Catholic religion by the conduct of a Catholic School or by any ancillary or
religious or educational activities for the benefit of the public.
The charity aims to deliver its objectives by focusing on the followng key aims-
1. To ensure that all aspects of school life are permeated by the Catholic ethos of respect and love for one's
neighbour
2. To provide a first class education for boys and girls aged 3 to 11+
3. To build each pupil's self-confidence so that they are prepared lor the opportunities and responsibilities of the
secondary curriculum and service to the viider community
4. To provide facilities for local educational. family and Catholic child-centred programmes
Public benefit
The governors have paid due regard lo guidance issued by Ihe Charity Commission's general and supplementary
guidance on public benefit. We are also mindful of the requirements ol Catholic Social Teaching when considering
the advancement ol education. fee-charging, reviewing our aims and objectives and planning our future aclivilies.
Achievements and perforniance
Significanl aclivities and achievements against objeclives
Children from all backgrounds are welcomed inlo the school and pupils benefit from our kind, caring and diverse
community, Places are offered following an inlomial assessment lo ascertain the prospective pupils, pace of
leaming lo ensure that they can benefit from the education provided. Pupil reports are issued tsvice a year and
Parent Evenings are carried out ￿lce during the year. Parent and Class Teacher communications are a¢tively
encouraged.
The Independent Schools Inspectorate carried out an inspection ol the school from 21 sl February to 25th February
2022 and found the quality of the pupils, academic and other achievements is excellent. They found that the quality
of the pupils. personal development is excellent and the compliance slandards were fully met.
The Section 48 Denominational Inspection was carried out in October 2019. The Inspector's conclusion is that
'Laleham Lea is an Oulslanding Catholic School, and 'Religious Education is exceplionally well led with the
partnership between leaders at all levels being highly effective,.
Our strong commitment lo safeguarding remains paramount and our training of all stsff. Governors and volunteers
is ongoing.
During the year, the pupils enjoyed curriculum lessons, individual instrumental lessons, LAMDA inslruction and in-
school clubs. Our pupils enjoyed many educational visils,. Year S visited The Imperial War Museum. Year 4 vi51ted
the Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, Year 1 and Year 2 visited Painshill Park, Year 2 visited Port Lympne and Year 3
went to Morden Hall. Some of our Year 5 and 6 pupils attended the Soulhwark Oiocese Start of Year mass at Sl
George's Cathedral. We also welcomed the Metropolitan Police and a dentist lo visit our EYFS. Our whole school
benefited from a drama production and Black History Day workshops. In the summer. our pupils and parenls
enjoyed Sports Day held at Purley Sports Club. Our Year 6 group enjoyed a residential trip to PGL Marchan15 Hill
and our Year 5 enjoyed a day ofAquasports.

Our varied lunchtime and after-school club activities increased and included Reading club, Verbal and Non-verbal
Reasoning. Latin and Classical Civilisation, Tennis, Orchestra. Origami. gardening club, STEM, Art & Design,
Acceleraled Maths. and Bollywood Oancing. LAMDA exams went ahead and excellent results were achieved.
Tennis, souash and football were part of the offering.
All pupils at Laleham Lea receive a cooked lunch Bnd a morning snack each day provided by our onsite catenng
teaffl. This is included within our school fees.
Our Nalivity plays and Carol Concert took place in the autumn lerm. The Easter Concert and our Year 5 and Year 6
production ol 'The Rocky monster Show, Ihe musical. held laler in Ihe year. were performed live for the parenls.
This was followed by our annual Pnze-Giving ceremony celebrating the successes of our pupils.
We compeled with other local Catholic Schools in a wide range of events including cricket. science and maths
qUiZ2es, infant and junior sports day, netball and football tournaments. We also competed in inter schools maths
challenge wilh other local schools, including independent schools.
The school finished the 2024 academic year with 147 on roll. which was an increase from the previous year
(2023.138). Applications for future years are strong with school and nursery application¥ already received for 20251
Due lo the departure of Ihg previous Headleacher. the existing Deputy Headleacher was appointed Acbn9
Headl8acher. Durin9 the coursè of the year, the company employed 2 members of staff.. one lull-timè support slaff
and one Acting Deputy Headteacher in April 2024.
Laleham Lea School operates for 171 days a year. The school is open from 8.20am to 3.25pm. In addition to the
ordinary school day, we operate an Early Birds provision starting al 8am and a Late Leavers provision, which
remains open until 5.30pm. Our Early Bird provision extended in the summer term lo a 7.30am start, 8olh
provisions affj w811 attended.
Laleham Lea successfully retained our Eco-S¢hools Green Flag Accreditation, with distinction, through the hard
work and dedication of our school community led by our Eco Council. As part of this process the school look p8rt in
an Eco day. where all pupils and staff were invited to dress up in Eco colours.
The Laleham Lea Parent Teacher Association successfully continued during the academic year. PTA events
including uniform sales, Ice Cream sales, movie nights, discos and a very successful Christmas fair and summer
fair. Our PTA events extended to parents and consisted of a parent quiz nighl and other parent social events.

Charitable activitles
Caring for those less fortunate Ihan ourselves is a recurring theme in the life of the school. Harvest Festival and
Christmas gifts were donated to the Purley Food Hub. Other charities that have been supported include the
Samaritan Purse. CAFOD and successfully raising nearly £1.000 for ChiliJren In Need.
The launch of our Mini Vinnies group introduces children to social justice issues and lo living faith through action as
part of the Sl Vincent de Paul Society. Events have included reading and singing at local care homes.
Once again, it has been possible to offer some limited bursary provision. which was made available to 12 during the
year.

Financial revi•w
This year the School recorded a surplus of £185,333 1202212023 deficit - £27,056). Unrestricled reserves as
planned stood at £909,686 and have been retained for future use as described below.
All income and lax exemption savingslbusiness rate reduclions are applied for the charitable purposes of the
company and indirectly help to support state school and community links. Nevertheless we cannol reclaim VAT
input costs and also pay lax as an employer through our share of National Insurance contributions.
Reserrfes policy
The School carries minimal Iree Reserves with day-to-day operational costs Met through workin9 capital without
recouw lo borrowings.
It is the intention to relain modest ￿SetVeS in the order of thffje to slx months of oper81ing costs lo provide ft)r
contingencies, fiscal demands, the On￿oing stability and financial security of Ihe School, its commitments and
undertakings.
Budgeting policy
The School Businegs Manager ha5 prepared a budget for the year endin9 31 August 2025 and maintains a careful
regular check over Ihe financial situation of the company, monitored by Governors.
The Pay Comrnittee, comprising of three Governors. meets ￿gUlarlY lo monitor staff salaries and make annual
increases.
Bank Account
The Charity's funds are kept in current and deposit accounts in order to maximise returns and to safeguard
deposits, even though the deposit account rates are presently very low.
Plans for futurq perSod8
The School operates a three-year strategic development plan that is reported on to the Board and formally reviewed
by the Govemors. The Govemors. plans are to further extend our environmental initiatives and to carry on
continuously improving the school sile with the aim of culting our carbon footpnnl. The Leaming Environmenl will
be continuously improved upon and upgraded a5 will the investment in technology, Governors are looking at ways
of improving the school grounds to maximise the use of available space and 8nsiiring that all provision 15 safe and
of good quality.
Sustaining the standards of excellence (evidenced by the ISI inspaclion of February 2022) is a focal point of our
extended curriculum and planning, wilh additional inveslmenl in staffing lo ensure Ihal the pupils continue lo receive
an excellenl curriculum and extra-curricular offer providing breadth and depth in their educalion. The Head Teacher
Governor's rigorously ￿VIeW the Curriculum from EYFS lo Yr. 6. extending learning opportunities for all pupils and
supporting the well-rounded development of the pupils, with the aim of extending specialist teaching at every
opportunity.
Structure, governance and management
Laleham Lea School is a company limited by guarantee governed by its Memorandum and Articles of Association
dated 25 January 2007. The school remained dormant unts'l 1 st April 2009 when it wmmenced trading. The school
has no share capital and is limited by guarantee. It is ￿gIStered as a charity with Ihe Charily Commission. All
Governors give their lime freely in a voluntary capacity.

Récruitmenl and 8ppointmenl of trustees
The full Goveming Board meets in full al lea516 times a year. Currently all governance decisions are referred lo the
full Board meelings. The Board seeks lo recruit Govemors from wilhin the local community who have an inleresl in
developing the Catholic character of the school. and supporting the educational need5 of the children al Laleham
Lea. Induction and ongoing training is provided by the school. the Diocese and the Local Authority.
None of the governors has any benefiGial interest in the company. All of Ihe governors are members of the company
and guarantee lo contribute £1 in the evenl of a winding up.
Auditor
In accordance with the company's articles. a resolution proposing that Baxter & Co be reappointed as auditor of the
company will be put at a General Meeting.
Risk managomgnt
The Governors have a duly to identify and review the risks lo which Ihe charity is exposed and to ensure
appropriate controls are in place to provide ￿aSOnable assurance against fraud and error.

Company Law requires the governors to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and

Charity information
Laleham Lea School is a private company limited by guarantee incorporated in England and Wales. The
registered office is 29 Peaks Hill, Purley, Surrey. CR8 3JJ.
1.1 Accountlng conventlon
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the charlty's Memorandum and Article5 of
Association. the Companies Act 2006. FRS 102 "The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and
Republic of Ireland" I"FRS 102") and the Charities SORP "Accounting and Reporting by Charilies: Sialemenl
of Recommended Practice applicable lo charities preparing Iheir accounls in accordance with the Financial
Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 102)" (effective 1 January 2019). The
chanty is a Public Benefit Enlity as dèfined by FRS 102.
The financial statements are prepared in sterling, which is the functsonal ¢urren¢y of th8 charity. Monetsry
amounts in these financial slalemenls are rounded lo the nearest £.
1.2 Golng conc•rn
Ai the lime of approving the financial statements, the governors have a reasonable expeclalion that the
charily has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. Thus the
governors continue to adopt the going concern basis of accounting in preparing the financial slatemenls.
1.3 Charltable funds
Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the governors in furtherance of their charitable
objeGtives.
1.4 Income
All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has enlillement to the funds.

The value of seNices provided by volunteers is nol incorporated Into these financial statements.
Where services are provided to the charity as a donation that would normally be purchased from aur
suppliers, Ihis contribution is included in the financial statements 81 an eslimBte based on the value of the

School fees provide the most significant income for the school and are recognised where Iheffj is an
entillemenl, certainly of receipt and the amount can be measured with sufficient reliability.
All other income including donations and investment income is provided ftjr at the F)oinl at which it is reGeived
as il is unpredictable and not malerial.
1.5 Expenditure
Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or conslructive obligation commilling the
chanly lo that expenditure, il is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be ￿qUIred in settlement and
the amount ol the obligation can be measured reliably . Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and
has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related lo the category. Where costs cannot be
directly attributed lo particular headings they have been alloraled to activities on a basis consistent with the
use of resources.
Charitable activities
Charilable expenditure comprises those costs incurred by the charity in the delivery of educational
programmes. It includes both costs that can be allocale(J dI￿¢11Y lo such aclivities and those costs of an
indirect natu￿ necessary lo support them. The trustees have identified two charitable activities.

Governance costs
Support costs now include governance costs which are costs associated with meeling Ihe constitutional and
slalulory requirements of Ihe charity and include independent examination fees, accountsncy lees. legal and
professional fees and bank charges.
Allocation and apportionment of costs
Any costs which are not deemed as a direct cosl are allocated as support costs which include governance
costs which are those costs associaterj with meeting the constrlullonal and statutory requirements of the
charity and include the independent examination fees and costs linked to the strategic management of the
charity_ All depreciation costs are deemed to be support costs of the provision of school equipment. All other
support costs are deemed to be those that support the provision of educational activities.
1.6 Tangible fixed assets
Tangible fixed assels are initially measured at cost and subsequently measu￿￿ al cost or valuation. net of
depTecialion and any impairment losses.
Depreciation is recognlsed so as to write off the cost or valuation of assets less their residual values over their

The gain or loss arising on the disposal of an asset is determined as the drfference between the sale proceeds
and the carrying value of the asset, and is recognised in Ihe statement of financial activities.
The charity was granted 8 50 year lease al 8 peppercorn rent and took over the existing building with its
assets which were purchased for the nominal sum of £1.
The charity's policy is to capitalise tangible fixed assets which cost over £1,250 per individual asset.
1.7 Impairment of flxed assots
Al each reporting end date. the charity reviews the carying amounts of its tangible assets lo determine
whether there is any indication Ihal those assets have suffered an impairment loss. If any such indication
exists. the recoverable amount of the asset IS 851imaled in order to determine the exlent ol the impairment
loss lif any).
1.8 Cash and cash oquivalents
Cash and cash equivalents include cash in hand, deposits held al call with banks, other short-temi liquid
investments with original malurilies of three months Of less, and bank ovèrdrafts. Bank overdrafts are shown
within borrowings in current liabilities.
1.9 Financial instruments
The charity has elected lo apply the provisions of Section 11 '8asic Financial Instruments, and Section 12
'Other Financial Instruments Issues, of FRS 102 to all of its financial inslruments.
Financial instruments are recognised in the charity's balan￿ sheet when the charity becomes party to the
contractual provisions of the inslrumenl.
Financial .assets and liabilities are offsel. with the nel amounts p￿sented in the financial statements, when
there is a legally enforceable right lo set off the recognised amounts and there is an intention to settle on a nel
basis or lo realise the asset and settle the liability simultaneously.

The cost of any unused holiday entitlement is recognised in Ihe period in which the employee's services are
received.
Teminalion benelils are recognised immediately as an expense when the charity is demonstrably committed
lo terminate the employment of an employee or lo provide termination benefits.
1.11 R•tir•ment b•n¢fits
Payments lo defined conlribullon retirement benefit schemes are charged as an expense as they fall due.
Retirement benefits to employees are provided by the Teachers, Pension Scheffle I'TPS'I defined benefit
scheme. The assets and Ihe liabililies are held separately from those of the charity.
Critical accounting •$timate8 and Judgements
In the application of the charity's accounting policies. the governors are required to make iudgemenls,
estimales and assumptions about the carrying amount of assets and liabililies that are not readily apparent
from other source5. The eslimales and associated assumptions are based on historical experience and other
factors that are considered to be relevant. Actual results may differ from these eslimales.
The estimates and underfying assumpllons are ￿vieWed on an ongoing basis. Revisions to accounting
estimates are recognised in the period in which the estimate is revised where the revision affects only that
period. or in the period of the revision and future periods where the revision affects both current and future

18 Retlremenl benefit schemes
The Charity's employees belong to principal pension schemes- the Teachers, Pension Scheme England
and Wales {TPS) for academic and related staff.. and the TPT Pension Scheme {TPT) for non-teaching slaff.
The pension charge for Ihe year includes conlributions payable lo the TPS of £109.394 {2023.. £98,187) and
contributions payable to the TPT scheme of £23,42612023.' £13,101). Conlribulions amounting lo £nil12023'.
£nill were payable to the schemes al 31 August 2024 and a￿ included within creditors.
Teachers. Pension Scheme
The Teachers, Pension Scheme ITPSI is a slalulory, conlribulory, defined benefit scheme, governed by the
Teachers. Pension Scheme Regulations 2014. Membership is automatsc for teachers in the Charity bul all
teachers have the option to opt out of the TPS following enrolrnenl.
The TPS is an unfunded scheme to which both the member and employer makes contributions, as a
percentage of salary. These contributions are ¢￿dIted lo the Exchequer. Retirement and other pension
benefits are paid by public funds provided by Parliament.
Valuation of th• Teachers, P•nsion Schome
The Governm8nl Actuary, using normal actuarial principles. conducts a formal actuarial review of the TPS in
accordance with the Public Service Pensions {Valuations and Employer Cost Capl Directions 2014 published
by HM Treasury every 4 years. The aim of the review is to specify the level of future contributions. Actuarial
scheme valuations are dependent on assumptions about the value of future costs, design of benefits and
many other factors. The lalesl actuarial valuation ol the TPS was carried out as at 31 March 2016. The
valuation report was published by the Department for Education on 5 March 2019.

SCAPE rate is 2.4¥0 above the rate of CPI. The assumed real rale of relurn is 2.4% in excess of
prices and 2Yo in excess of eamings. The rate of real earnings growth is assumed lo be 2.2%. The
assumed rK)minal rale of return including earnings growth is 4.45%.
The next valualion result Is due to be implemented Irom 1 April 2024.

Under the definitions set out in FRS 102, the TPS is an unfunded multi.employer pension scheme. The
Charity has accounted for its contributions to Ihe scheme as if it We￿ a defined contribution scheme. The

During the year ended 31 August 2020 the school opened its kitchen lor meals. A contract was formed with
Nourish Contracl Catering Limited lo supervise and manage the catering services. The term of this contract is
six years from 1 Seplember 2019. If the school decides to terminate this contract befo￿ this dale they will be
liable lo reimburse Nourish Contract Catering Limited for any un-deprecialed inveslmenl remaining. As at 31
August 2024 the value of this liabilily is £1,083 (2023: £2,167), this value will dep￿Clate on a straight line
basis in line with the term of the contract.
