## **History, objectives and activities of the Trust** 

## 1) **Who We Are** 

We are Christians from many walks of life who meet together as a local church because of our common faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. We are not controlled by any central organisation and all our beliefs are based solely on Gods Word - the Holy Bible. 

## 2) **What Do We Believe** 

That the Bible is the Divinely inspired and providently preserved Word of God and, as such should be believed and obeyed. 

That there is one true God who, although one, is triune, comprising Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who are co-equal and have been in existence eternally. 

That God has revealed Himself to humanity in the person of His beloved Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. 

That man is a sinner by nature and totally incapable of satisfying the requirements of a righteous God, however that the Lord Jesus Christ by His life, death and resurrection has provided a means of forgiveness of sins and eternal life to all those who will accept Him, through repentance and faith, as Lord and Saviour. 

That the Lord Jesus Christ will come to receive all those who have trusted him as Saviour and, ultimately, to judge all those who have rejected Him. 

## 3) **What is Our Purpose** 

To seek to bring others to personal saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and to baptise them as believers by immersion in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. 

To encourage all those who know and love the Lord Jesus Christ, to come together regularly for worship, prayer and Bible study, that the spiritual life of all in the local church may grow to the glory of God. 

## 4) **History** 

From our earliest records, we know that the work being carried out from Coleford Gospel Hall was commenced by a small group of Christians in the early 1920’s.  The meetings took place first of all in the corrugated iron hut on Highbury Cross, Highbury, Coleford and from January 1984 in the present premises adjacent to Highbury Cross. The spiritual leadership and pastoral care of the church is the responsibility of the elders, but every member is considered of equal importance and are encouraged to take an active part in the life of the church. We encourage each other to live out our faith every day, at work and at home, not just on Sundays. We welcome all new faces and continually seek to make new contacts in the district. We are always willing to provide spiritual help and advice and are happy to hear from members of the local community at any time who may be seeking spiritual guidance. 

## 5) **Activities** 

As Christians, Sunday is special for us. As believers we meet in the morning for a time of worship at our Breaking of Bread (Communion) service. In the evening there is a Family Gospel Service which begins with favourite hymns and then a short Gospel talk followed by a cup of tea and biscuits. On the Last Sunday of the month, we hold a Tea and Talk service. Our activities are not confined to Sundays. On Tuesday Evenings we meet for Bible Study and Prayer. On Thursdays we hold a Carers and Toddlers in the morning and a Ladies Meeting in the afternoon. On Friday evenings we hold a Kids Club for youngsters. An older group of young people (18yrs plus) meet occasionally on Friday evenings for table sports and a light meal. Details of all events, are advertised on our web site at www.colefordgospelhall.org. Transport to these meetings is available if needed. An annual Holiday Bible Club is held in the February school half term for children of school age and around the end of September a week of children’s meetings are held each evening for an hour with bible quiz games and stories. We also distribute calendars in the local area in time for the new year. Times of our activities are as in 6) below

## **7) Management and governance arrangements** 

The trust deed provides that there shall not be less than 3 trustees nor more than 10. Were there a requirement for new trustees, these would be identified and appointed by the remaining trustees. The trustee appointed as Secretary is responsible for the induction of any new trustee which involves awareness of a trustee’s responsibilities, the governing document, administrative procedures, the history and philosophical approach of the charity. A new trustee would receive copies of the previous year’s annual report and accounts and a copy of the Charity Commission leaflet ‘The Essential Trustee: What You Need to Know’. The trustees annually review the risks that the charity faces. There are also minor areas of risk relating to activities which have been covered by proper procedures and insurance. All those involved in childrens work are fully vetted through the DBS digital service. 

## **8) Achievements and performance of the Trust** 

During the year the trustees are content that satisfactory progress has been achieved in the furtherance of the objectives of the trust. 

## **9) Financial review, investment policy and reserves** 

The net income of £25757 (2024 £23928) The expenditure was £27178 (2024 £22326), giving a deficit of income over expenditure of £1420 (surplus 2024 £1602). It is the policy of the trustees to hold excess funds in interest bearing bank deposit accounts. 

## **10) Reserves Policy** 

Funds are held in reserve normally for the day to day anticipated expenses of the trust. 

## **11) Statement of trustees' responsibilities** 

Charity law requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which show a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and its financial activities for that period. In preparing those financial statements, the trustees are required to: 

• select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently; 

- make judgments and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; 

• state whether applicable accounting standards and statements of recommended practice have been followed, subject to any departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements; and 

• prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in operational existence. 

The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and to enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 1993. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities. 

## **12) Independent Examiner** 

The trustees intend to ask the existing examiner to undertake the independent examination of the Trust in the following year.
