## **Trustees Report on Activities for 2022/23.**

The 2022/23 year has been a busy one for the team at Ryedale Dog Rescue as we started to get back to our 'normal' activities following the pandemic restrictions. The start of the year at our AGM saw Jan Anderson our secretary become a trustee of the rescue after supporting and volunteering with us for several years. We hope Jan will enjoy her additional role and look forward to the coming year when we can now build on our solid foundations.

Our usual fundraising activities have got back into full swing with fun dog shows, stall, bingos, raffles and the annual auction as well as the continued popular Stall on the Wall run by the Wheldon Family and Emma Peckitts little stall in Ebberston. We are always very grateful to be invited to attend other organisations events and to those who fundraise on our behalf. This year saw a new event added to the RDR Calendar in the form of a very popular and enjoyable Ceilidh. All participants had a great time and we hope to run this event again this year. We also had Christmas cards printed for the first time this year that people can buy to show their support of RDR and with the help of an additional grant from The Rose Animal Trust we purchased new display boards and updated our adoption folders which all help spread the name of RDR to a wider audience. The purchase of a new PA system has also made communication easier at our events, especially the outdoor ones.

Since the pandemic we are finding that the dogs coming into our care are taking longer to 'rehabilitate' and need to stay longer with us before they can move to new homes and therefore the number of dogs rehomed is down on previous years. However, we have always been a charity that considers dogs on individual merit rather than breed and so the current situation looks likely to continue for some time as the lockdown 'fallout' continues in the world of dogs.

For the first time in the charity's history we have been in a position to set aside a 'reserve' pot of money so we have the financial backup if we are ever in the position of another lockdown or situation where face to face fundraising cannot take place. It is a relief to all knowing we have this 'safety net' and a credit to all fundraisers that this has been made possible.

Our team of volunteers have all pulled together to make this a very successful year for RDR and we go into 2023/24 in a secure financial position. A big thankyou must be extended to everyone involved whether as a supporter, volunteer, adopter or donator, you all play a very important part in our special charity.

## **RYEDALE DOG RESCUE**

## **Independent Examiners Report to the trustees for the year ended 31st March 2023.**

I report on the accounts of Ryedale Dog Rescue for the year ended 31st March 2023 as set out on pages 3 to 5.

## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 (2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the "2011 Act") and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

- examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act

- to follow the procedures laid down in the general directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act), and

- to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

## **Basis of independent examiner's report**

My examination was carried out in accordance with the general directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair' view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

## **Independent examiner's statement**

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention

- 1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect, the requirements;

   - to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and

   - to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act

have not been met; or

- 2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
