ANNUAL REPORT OF TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2023
The charlty IS 8overned by a Trust Deed and registered by the Charity Commission as charily
number.. 1117955. The Trustees administer the charlty. Vacancies are filled andlor addiiional
trustees appointed by seekln8 people wilh relevant skills and experience and who are in
sympathy wlth the Charity's purposes. The Trustees make decislons on the grants that are
glven lo support projects in Pietermarilzbur8, Souih Africa.
The Charity's purpose5 are:
To advance the education of chlldren up to 17 years old, in partlcular by 5UPPOrtin8
Gateway Christian School.
The rellef of slckness and the preservation of health among people resldln8
permanently or iemporarily in Kwazulu Natal, in particular by supporting the non-
profit maklng organl53tlon Prolecl Gateway.
The fellef of financlal hardshlp amon8 people Ilvlng or worklng In Kwazulu Natal bv
providing such persons Wlth shelter, business development training, mentorin8
and ongoing follow-ups, In partlcular by supportln8 Project Gateway.
Annual Report
Durln8 the year, a rotal of £37.338 was transferred to support pro8rammes run by Prolect
Gateway In Pletermarltzburg, South AfrSca. The advantageous exchan8e rate from £ to ZAR
meant Ihai Ihe money distributed to varlous projects In South Africa has helped more people.
The income in donatlon5 from Individuals and church groups totalled £42.167 for the year -
IlncludSn8 Glft Aid).
All programmes operated by Proleci Gateway have been adversely affected by COVID-19 are
now totally back to normal. The number of chlldren on roll al Gateway Chrlstlan School. the
number of students at the Gateway School of Fashlon, and the number of people visStSng the
slte as tourlsts or volunteers has almost returned to levels slmilar to those recorded before
rhe pandemic.
Education
21 people continue to support or part spon50r 12 students at the Gaiewav
Christlan School.
IT Tralnlng- Compuler LSteracy classes are now held solely al Gateway Christian school, with
learners In Grade5 2 -7 receivlng trainin8 Irom a speciallst ieacher. The compulcr room
accommodates up lo 30 compuler Siations and learne15, Wlth 'up to date, work stations and
software. whlch 8ives learners a huge advantage as they move on to high school.
Food Support - Project Gateway remalns Inundated wlth requests for food support Irom
Pastors around the clty. This15 because those who live hand to mouth selling food, fresh frult
and vegetables etc on a daily basis have not been able lo reinstale their livelihoods, and

therefore 5tru88le to provlde lor themselves and their famllles. Durin8 this year we partnered
wlth ABELUSI Global in creatln8 and enhancin8 gardens in rural communlties around the clty.
In total we are now monitoring 11 gardens which feed more than 3000 people each month.
Other smaller gardens are also assi51ed in many local areas.
Gateway School of Fashlon - In February 2023 a new group of learners started the course.
wilh 21 In Year I, and 11 in Year 2. The Year 2 learners were able lo gencrale income bv
making and solling variou5 Items of clothing. We completed Ihe curriculum on tlme. and the
end ol year Fashion Show was a Breat success.
Early ChSldhood Development- 15 creches were supported and monitored by us durlng the
year, and all of them have started of maintalned ve8etable gardens. The produce from the
gardens enhances on a dally basis ihe food 8iven to the children.
Team Vlslts- No teams or indlviduals were able to vlsit and help out Prolect Gateway durln8
2023.
General Funds . The money In this fund pays for the central office functlons le.8. accouniln8.
utllities, Insurance, HR managoment, cleanln8 etcl. and also partly funds a person In the UK
to undertake the publicity, soclal media, wobslte, annual roports and related functlon5 for
Project Gateway. Some of the 8eneral funds help 10 Support the Empowerment programmes
whlch traln students In work related skllls.
The Trustees have complled wlth tho duty In Sectlon 17 01 the Charltie5 Act 2011 to have due
regard lo the public benefit 8uidance publlshed by the Charity CommlssS0n.
Reserve5 Pollcy
All donated monies are expended wlthin 3-4 months of thelr receipt In order to fund the
charlly's actlvllles at Proloct Gateway. The charliy has no non.ra5h assets, nor staff that they
would need to fund in the event ol a suclden drop In income.
