The Kindle Centre also acts as a community resource offering intemet access to the public, printing, photocopying, and ot￿r administration support serytces. Coverfng the core costs of running The Kindle Centre and deliverlng communlty activities has been a balancin8 act at times, but the organisation has worked hard over the years to develop a good community busi￿$$ model, improve efflclency and be more resilient. Significant changes have been made to our system5 and the infrastructure of the buildin8 to improve our professionalism, effic7er￿y, security, and safety at The Kindle Centre. The localitys multiple deprivations still offer considerable opportunities and challenge5 for the Trust to continue to SUp￿rt the community particularly with the cost-of-llvlng crtsls, poverty, intergration, social isolation and loneliness and mental ill health and the other signlficant events that are happenlng in the world. We have welcomed many peoAe to The Kindle Centre to attend meetings and activities and thls year we have seen a considerable increase in people accessing our support with 50.000 people coming through the doors of the Kindle Centre from April 2024 to March 2025. Approximately 95 different groups and organisations have used the Kindle Centre. We have created a lively ¢￿ative Health and well-being hub and wort( closely with our partners particularly from the NHS. L(Kal AutlM)rity and others. In addition to The Kindle Centre, we delivered classe5 in Leominster, Ledbury, and Ross-on-wye. We are continuously adapting to our students, needs. We provided "Women with Children classes" at The Kindle Centre and in Ledbury Primary School as well, where Afghan, Syrian, Ukrainian aml Vietnamese mums developed their English language with the help of volunteer childminders. We have supported Students with no speaking or writing in English, {and in some cases having no education in t￿1r own language) by providirsg One-to-one sessions and small number classes. Our students are mainly adults, but we welcomed UASC children from Sudan, Afghanistan. Iran and Vietnam into our classes. Over 50% of our students were Ukrainian. over ZO% Afghan and over 20% other nationality ?ncluding Fbng Kongers, Chinese, Vietnamese, Sudanese, Iraqi, Iranian, Indian. Egyptian, Bangladeshi, Libyan, Brazilian and Lithuanian in last financial year. COAIMUNITY ESOL (FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT HAVE ENGLISH AS A FIRST LANGUAGE) Our 6 5￿ceSsful Communlty classes continued in the 2024125 academic year. We welcomed a new tutor in February 2024. We had a wide range of nationalitie5 in these cla55e5: Polish, Romanian. Brazilian, Bulgarian, Litl¥Janian. Turf(ish. LaNan. Spanish, Cuban, Portuguese, Arnienlan, Algerfan, Syrian and Hung￿lan Ours student's achlevements Include: Passlng the British Citizenship Exams Launching their own businesses (cake making, painter and decorator) Passing Accredlted Eng115h Exams Completing Preparing to Work in School courses Passing drlvlng tests Passing Food safety and HyglerÉ course Galnlng Employment Case study: Student A, in her mid to late forties. is origirtally from Brazil and has Portuguese as her first language. Married with sorG her health i55ues made It increasingly difficult to work in the M and M Direct factory as a pickerlpacker and She set her goal to improve her English and change jobs. She faced major difficulties Mth pronunciation. For example, Portuguese doe5 not have the "th" sound resulting in "fink" instead of "think. English has more vowel sounds so differentiating betweerl "ee" and "ih" as "beat and bit" can be hard. IT and the p051tive language skllls needed In daily Ilfe and to progress into work and study situation5. We were able to offer additional learning in Maths: Managing Your Morw and Upskilling your Numeracy courses from October 2024 to February 2025. Thi5 was the government's new £560 million prosramrne to help transform the live5 of Iwndreds of thousands of adults across the UK and wlll be dellvered through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Numeracy is the ability to understand and use maths in daily life, home, and work. Whether that be improving household finance5. helping children with homework, making more sense of the stats and facts in the medla, or Improvlng n￿n￿racY ski115 speclflc to your Ilne of work. People who improve their numeracy skills are ￿re likely to be in employment, have higher wages, and better wellbeing, and will be more able to progress to higher levels of free tralning to secure a skllled Job In our economy. Businesses who develop their employees, numeracy skilts can boost productivity, increase profits, and improve employee retention. That's why we've launched the Multiply programme - just one of the ways the government is helping everyone 8ain skills. We started a very successful IT for Employment course in January 2025 and were able to offer a second course (because of the increased demand) in March 2025. We like our students to have the opportunity to progress, and this year our ESOL learners we offered Accredited English Course (Skills for Life Readlngl In November 2024. Our flrst cohort of accredited Leamers 16 students) have all passed their exams. It followed by the Ski115 for Life Writing course in March 2025. "Here 4 You" In April 2024 we started a course called "Here 4 You" to encourage and support learners in the community to develop positive and effect?ve communication, and positive language skills, needed in daily life. This was aimed at supporting people Into work and further learnlng s1tuatlons. Two of our tutors dellvered thls evenln8 course successfully throu8ts)ut May and June 2024. Multiply We expanded our learning opportunities thi5 year by offering learner5 the Government Multiply Program. This program helps people manage their money and upskill their numeracy. OFFERING HOLISTIC COMMUNITY SUPPORT _ At the Klndle Centre we do not turn anyone away WIK) ￿ed5 our support and during the period 1st April 2024 . 1st April we have continued to provide practical assistance to member5 of the Herefordshire community. some of these people have the most difficult personal circumstances including contact with the crfmlnal Justlce system, homeles5ne55, severe debt or long.term health i55ues. By bulldlnq professlonal and trustlng relationships. we have been able to make long-lasting and significant changes to individual's lives. Supporting people to overcome their barriers to progress and provldlng onward support to access leamlng, training, volunteering and employment that people 8row in self-esteem, self-confidence and believe that more 15 ￿SSIbLe for them. Between A￿11 2024 and September 2024. two Community A(fvIS￿S, funded by the Support for Ukrainian Integration Grant, provlded support to an average of 15 people per week - working through i55ues to overcome barrlers to make pro8re55 with their live5.

Thi5 SUPPOrt ranged from refeninq individuals for Food Parcels from Hereford Food Bank, helping with debt and a￿ears. understanding household bills and contactTng utility companies, hous7ng issues, helping people understand their eligibility to receive state benefits, supporting family members (children or elderly relatives). managing ￿alth i55ue5 including referrals for mental health support, visa and immigration support . particularly the new E-VISA system, access to volunteering, accessing training and education, CV writing and readiness for employment and entering employment. COIIMUNITh SUPPORT ErfENTS: Between April 2024 and April 2025. the Community A¢fvisor Team ran several events at The Kindle Centre vthich 5UPPOrted tIE local communlty: In June 2024. we held a Refugee Week Celebration where people from the local refugee community came together to share customs, foods, show items from thelr homes and show thelr dlfferent alphabets and writin8. In August 2024. we held our popular 'School Uniform Pop-up, where families came to access free, pre-loved sclK¥Jl uniform items which had been donated by members of the communlty. Our E-VISA Clinic ran in October 2024 and the team supported over 60 famllles to reglster ￿th the online UKVI servi whlch is essentlal for a pewjn needlng to prove thelr Immlgratlon statu5 in the UK. On 9th December. we help a Winter Warmer Pop-up, which distri￿ted warm winter clothes, coats, pyjamas, hats, gloves socks and Y￿rrn household textile5 to local families. In February 2025, we ran another 'School Uniforni Pop-up. to provlde school unlform tOP-UP5 to local families. In March 2025. we worked wlth the Borderline5 Fllm Festival to offer free screenings of films to the communlty an afternf￿n showlng of Mrs Harr15 Goe5 to Pari5 With an aftemoon tea seryed to attendees and two.family films. CASE STUDIES: rtin a Person into Em ent in a School V wa5 completely lacking in 5elf-confidence and self-esteem a5 She struggled with an ongoing difficult personal situation. V had a very limited income and a strained relatiorship with her partner which was making her home life difficult and unsettled. V rEeded to have her own income and the role needed to fit around her commitments to her children. V had experrence of worf(ing with children as a sports coach and as a member of staff in a rwjrsery school. She had recently completed a Teaching Assistant course at The Kindle Centre but was reknKtant to apply for roles as she did not feel she could be successful. Together we worked on V's CV and looked at available suitable roles. We found a role at a local Primary School requiring Teaching A55i5tant support 20 hours a week - with the optTon of extra h)urs. I supported V to complete the application form and she send it back to the school.

V worked wlth me to prepare for the Interview and the teaching task. V had chosen a book and had decided to discu55 a particular angle of the book which would relate to the specific life experiences of the children in the particular school. V attended the interview and was informed the followin8 morning that she had been successful. V is now employed at the schwl and is enjoying the school environment and her growing financial independence. Su rtin a Person from Homelessne55 to Tenanc Z wa5 referred by Hereford Housing Solutions for support in organizing hi5 essential needs a5 he transltioned into his new life after experiencing hornelessness. We encountered seveTrl challenge5, as Z wa5 unfamiliar with managing his linance5. applying for benefits, paying bills, and communicating with suppliers and his landlord. This was compounded by his limited English skills. Luckily, I was able to communicate with Z in his native language and act as an interpreter for Z in meetings and on telephone calls. restored his Universal Credit account logins and clearly outlined all his responsibilities and commitments related to benefit receipt. Additionally, l arranged to provide him wth a cooker for his kitchen thmugh funding from the Herefordshire Community Foundation. l accompanied him to the Job Centre. where we addre55ed and re501ved his sanctions resulting from previous i55ue5. 1 aLs0 contacted his landlord regarding missed payments caused by his illness, which led to a successful agreement to wiite off those payThents. Before Z started his job, we provided him with a food parcel via the Food Bank to ensure he had access to essentials. He actively participated in our events at the Klndle Centre, We registered his gas and electricity supplies in his name, set up his accounts, and taught him how to take meter readings and make timely payments. l assisted hlm In applylng for a reductlon Sn hfs Council Tax untll he secured full-time employment. Furthermore, we supported hlm In craftlng a strong CV and Job appllcatlon5. empowerfng hlm to putsue new opportunities. Z has been in employment in agricultural roles and still pops into The Kindle Centre. Su rtln a lad to turn her life around S came to an Inltlal meetlng in January 2025 after a particularly difficult sequence of events. S presented as being very nervous and broke down during her appointment. It became evident that followng some difficulties With her landlady, S had been made IK)meless. Following a couple of nights in emergency accommodation S felt so unsafe that She resorted to sleeping in car for several weeks before being moved to temporary accommodation. There had been a string of difficulties in communication tetween the housing team and S, resulting in missing inforniation and action5 on her personal housing plan Incomplete. It became apparent that 5's mental health had become very low. her physical health was declining and she had Lost faith in ever leaving temporary accommodation. I worked with S to find a solution. resulting in findir8 a flat with Citizen Housing, in a development specifically for over 55's. After appI￿n4 to The Vicar's Relief Fund for a bond, and discretionary housing to help with moving costs and the sI￿rtfalL in rent, S 5ucce55fully moved into IEr own property. The food bank supported with home starter item5 and an initial food package, and fortunately a cooker through the NILS scheme. I was also able to make an application for funding to support S with costs relating to her car so that she could maintain her independence. I believe that the supw)rt that S received from The Kindle Centre really turned her life around restored her faith in other local seThices. The Trust has a lease with NHS Property Services Ltd to sub-let the ￿Uth Wye Medical Centre, the Trust is obligated to charge a pre-agreed rental for the centre as per the tern￿ of the lease. Originally a health-advice centreldental surgery> the building provided a hugely valuable community asset. The buil(ling is rK)w the South Wye Medical Practice delivering a GP seThice for the Hereford Medical Practice and out of hours support run by Taurus, this servlce continues to date and we are working hard to ertsure that this pract7ce part of Hereford Medical Group 5UPPOrts re5iderst5 of South Wye.

And we have been giving our older residents in the community a freshly cooked meal and opportunities to sociali5e ever since, offering the get-togethers a￿ut every 6.8 weeks. Our older people love to attend our communlty meals, and It makes a huge difference to the elderly who are lonely and socially isolated and rely on the Centre to meet and socialise. We create a fantastic community vibe and lots of friendships have been created. Our model. which we are very passionate about, is to get people together over fLY)d to socialise to combat soclal Isolatlon and loneliness. This year we have had 9 communlty lunc￿5 and a SFecial 80th Year VE Day celebration ￿th the Mayor Cllr Kevin Tillett. Our organisation provldes serYice5 and support to all particularly the vulnerable. Due to our forever- changin8 world and the cost-of-living crisis, in the last year we have seen an Increased demand in people needing our support. Our organisation connects our community and supports our community to bvork together and be together. We are embedded into the community, and we keep In touch with our elderly vulnerable residents that we have always supported, they have told us how they are feeling lonely and isolated and how they really enjoy coming to the Klndle Centre to meet and share food. We have delivered community lunches from April 2024 - March 2025. We are very 8rateful to our volunteers who help with the delivery of these events which we do in partnership with Growing Local CIC, all our local volunteers the amazing EPICS from Close House who are incredible with the older people. GARDEN PARTY AT BUCKINGHAM PALACE Four of our very special volunteers attended a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on thè 8th May 2024. Andrew Brid8es has volunteered for many years and now works for SWDT. Cecily Smith has been volunteering for many years and is now in her 80,5. They were both supported to attend the garden party by two more of our special volunteers. We have agreed to continue Big Eats after recelvlng further fundlng from Herefordshire Community Foundation and Herefordshire Councll. The Big Eats are a great opportunity for South Wye Development Trust to gfve people a wlder understanding of different cultural needs and improved understanding and acceptance of dlfferent cultures, we also use our events to address soclal isolation, lonelir￿sS. poverty a5 well as lead to improved Integratlon. SWDT has stayed commltted to dellverfng these Important events. Between 1 St April 2024 - April 2025 we delivered 8 Big Eats this year. Unfortunately. we have not been able to secure funding for 2026 yet. The Big Eats are a community project that the community ha5 developed and owns and love5. Always on a Saturday, for all. we TnvTte our communlty to come into Kindle make frtend5, prepare, cook and then share food together. Average 70 people attend. We have been delighted to have the fantastic vegetable5 from the newly established South Wye Community Garden from our partners and frtends Growlng Local CIC. We were grateful to receive funding from the UKSPF Communlty Capacity Grant to dellver our Blg Eats. We were delighted to join the Winter of Warmth project with Herefordshire Council and have delivered a number of activities to support our families throughout the winter. Our Children's Christmas party was one of tl)ose events. Over 1(KJ children and their families having a fantastic time celebrating. TRAINING AND LEARNING BY OUR PARTNERS Thls year we have been used by many different training providers to offer a variety of vocational training and leaming. We have partnered ￿th Hereford, Ludlow and North Shropshire College who have delivered Level 1 Preparing to work in Sclmjols courses and one Level 1 Safeguarding in an Educational Setting course between September 2024 and July 2024. This has been a great opportunity for our local community who would struggle to attend the college for a variety of reasons and provides employment opportunitie5 which can work around child-care re5ponsibi17ties. In 2024. we have also started working with National Community Learning Partnership {NCLPI to deliver accredited courses in childcare. These courses are the first step towards a career in childcare setting5 - nursery. pre-school or early years education. We continue to partner with Jobskilla to offer opw)rtunities for a fully furKled CSCS card cour5e5. These are always well- attended with leamers completing the course. We have organlsatlons delivering, First Aid, Emergency Fi￿t Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid. Mental Health Flrst Ald, Health and safety courses, Cranstoun dellver thelr 1 2 1 support. Pheonix Fostering have their meetings with us, and several counsellors have counselling sessions. We have built a relationship with businesses in the public and private sector use us a5 a venue to deliver their Companies training.

SUPPORT FOR UKRAINE INTEGRATION Supportfvr Ukrnlne Intesratlon Fund We continue to support the many UkraInla￿ In the County wlth our other partners. Whi15t we were receiving the Ukrainian Integration Fund we supported 79 individuals, many with complex needs, to move forward5 With their ITves in Hereford. We have sUPPOrted 49 Indi￿dUaL5 into work, 14 into education and 6 people into volunteering. We Contir￿ to support a Ukrainian lady who 15 a personal trainer and Functional Yoga teacher to set up her own buslness providlng personal tralnlng and run weekly yoga classes at The KlThlle Centre. Our Ukrainian Community Advisor ha5 been able to provide more intensive help and support to the older memters of the Ukralnlan Communlty and those who have limited Enqlish language skilEs. Our British Commun7ty Advisor has been able to support those with more advanced language skills. Case Study.. Our Ukrainian Community Ad￿SOr 5UPPOrted a family to reunite after they were separated by the war. A Ukrainian gentlemen came in to see our Community Advisor to ask for support to bring his partner and children to the UK from a dangerous area In Ukralne. The gentlemen had come to the UK to V￿rk and was employed in the local agricultural Industry and had secured approprlate accommodatlon In Herefordshlre. Our Communlty Ad￿Sor was able to support the gentleman with the application to bring his family members and support the family through the process of anivlng In the UK. When the partner arrived with the children. the family needed extensive sUPPOrt to set established with essentials and to feel safe and comfortable in their new home. Our Community Advi50r prowded friendly and calm 5UPPOrt to the W￿le family. working with the children to help them into schrx)l and the adults to help them U￿le[Stand their responsibilities in the UK. The gentleman ha5 been promoted in his work, the children are well.settled in sch(M)l and mum 15 worklng hard to Improve her language skllls. The family regularly attends communlty events at The Klndle Centre, and tTrw contlnue to be supp)rted. At the Klndle Centre we do not turn anyone away who needs our support and durfng thls perlod. we have additionally supported around 15 individua15 each week. Some of these people have the most difficult personal circumstances irKluding contact with the criminal justice system. homelessrEss, severe debt or lon8.terrn health issues. By building professional and trusting relationships, we have been able to make long-lasting and significant changes to individual's lives. A couple come into The Kindle Centre after hav7ng their hour5 reduced at work. This couple were in their lote and had worked in ond oround Hereford all their workins lives. The reduction in work hour5 had put the couple under slsnificant finflncial strain and their ability to pay their rent and other boqic expenses wos under real threat. Our Community Aoknsor spoke to the couple to make them aware of the support that wos ovoilable to them vio the Universol Credit system. The couple had never claimed Universal Credit before ond were very reluctont. After it wos explained that the Universal Credit System was there to support people in times of temporory difficulty. they agreed to go ahead with the cloim while they were supported to look for work. During the Universal Credit claim process, our Community Aifvisor found out that one of the couples hod o lifelong disability which affected the type of work the person wos able to do. Our Community Advlsor provlded support for a 5ucce55ful application for PIP. The couple worked w7th our Community Advisor to updote thelr CWS and start applying for jobs. The couple wanted to work tosether as they have one cor so would travel to and from work ot the some times. Our Communlty Advi50r contacted local employer5 to discuss the couple and their availability to work whlch resulted In 5ucce55ful employment in two port time jobs which the couple could do together. CHARITY SUPPORT AND PARTNER SUPPORT We contlnue to work with several other Charities and voluntary or8anlsatlons in South Wye and across Herefordshire. Such as The Cracked Slipper Company, Growing Local CIC, Melody Dance Company. Willowdene Rehabllltation. HVOSS, SeNices for Independent Living, Mind, The LI￿n8 Room, Catch 22 and the City of Sanctuary, plus many others. SWDT became a HAF partner and has dellvered HAF activities throughout the holiday5. We delivered 2 x 3 hr sessions per week for 30 children to include fresh healthy f(xJd for 4 weeks this year over the su[n[r￿[ IM)lidays. 5cfvJol holidays can be pressure points for some families because of increased costs 15uch a5 food and childcarel and reduced income5. For some children that can lead to a Mliday experience gap, with children from disadvantaged familles., The free ￿lidaY club places were targeted at children are eligible for and receivin8 benefits-related free sch¢xJl meals. 11
