The Grovelands Trust established in 2006

Trading as Centrepeace Hub Gosport since 2013

c/o 10 Elgar Close, Gosport, Hampshire PO12 2LU

Charity number 1117213 Trustees: Peter F Halsey & Elayne J Halsey

Annual Report 2023-2024

The charitable objects of the Trust, as outlined in The Groveland’s Trust governing document, established in its Trust Deed dated 17th November 2006, are:

“To further general charitable purposes, in particular but not exclusively, the relief of those in need by reason of their youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other social or economic disadvantage by providing or assisting in the provision of accommodation or care and supporting and providing grants to charities and other institutions or parties having charitable objects.”

During Groveland’s Trust last financial we gifted a total of £3950 to 12 different charities. As usual we tried to encompass charities that care for children and young people, the elderly, those struggling financially, those impacted by health issues and those working with people overseas. We distribute these over the course of the year and in response to appeals for grants that we have received.

We run our listening and restoration service under the banner of “Centrepeace” and over the last year have helped people who have been coming to terms with a whole variety of issues including long covid symptoms that have severely impacted them, people struggling due to loss of jobs or relationships and also some with depression and anxiety and low self worth. This is having taken regard of the Charity Commission’s guidance on the charity having public benefit.

We have been supported in this by a team of volunteers. We make no charge for this service which can last for a number of weeks or longer and we supply resources such as reading material to support people in their journey to getting strong again. Some people do make voluntary donations.

During 2023 we made the decision to sell our High Street shop which we have owned since 2013. The reason for this was that footfall had declined in the High Street so we were getting fewer people come through the door asking for help. The majority of our clients now come through internet searches, word of mouth or leaflets we had distributed on noticeboards. Some clients had been referred from their doctor’s surgery. Alongside face to face sessions we also offer zoom sessions for people who do not live near enough to travel to see us.

We felt running the High Street shop was not the best use of Grovelands Trust funds so we sold in March 2023 and in July the same year we purchased a residential house to use for our sessions. Two of our volunteers moved into the house and paid us rent adding to

Grovelands Trust income. We also continue to receive rent from the other residential house we purchased for the charity in 2014. This is our principle source of income - we receive no grants etc and we do not fund raise.

We hold reserves for the charity in case of unexpected expenses on the residential houses. At the end of 2024 financial year we had £4413 in the current account and £15,255 in the Savings Account.

The assets we hold are the two residential houses and the value as at the end of 2024 would be approximately £280,000 for 76 Beauchamp Avenue, Gosport PO13 0LQ and £300,000 for 1 Rydal Road, Gosport, PO12 4ES

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of The Grovelands Trust

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the charity for the year ended 10[th] December 2024 which are set out on pages 1 to 2.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity’s trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiner's statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or

  2. the accounts do not accord with those records.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
