Stucture, Governance and Management
Whitmore Bay Surf Life Saving Club was established in 2003 and is based at the main beach on Barry island, Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales.
Whitmore Bay SLSC is a voluntary not for profit organisation committed to providing a safe beach and aquatic environment to the community of Barry Island, whilst developing life saving skills and fitness of its members.
Many of the members work for or have worked for the local county as qualified lifeguards. In addition, to looking after the beach, the club provides 'community first aid' programmes.
The club has grown steadily over the previous six years and now has approximately 120 members, comprising of 50 Nippers, aged 7-12 and 30 Juniors aged 13-18 and Seniors.
The club actively encourages members of all ages to become involved. There is a lot of activity that takes place in running the club, so those members that are not interested in being part of the lifeguards team, have a lot to offer in terms of club management, organising events and socialising too.
The trustees declare that they have approved the trustees report above

Independant Examiners Report for the year ended 31 December 2024
I report on the accounts of the Club for the year ended 31 December 2024, which are set out on the following 1 page.
Respective responsibilities of the trustees and the examiner
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts.
The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year,
(under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act)) and that an independent examination is preferred.
-
It is my responsibility to:
-
examine the accounts (under section 145 of the 2011 Act)
-
to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act and
-
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner’s report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes considerations of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
Independent examiner’s statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
-
which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements
-
to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and
-
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with the
-
accounting requirements of the 2011 Act,
have not been met, or
- to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
