volunteers. We have more than ever before
and they form teams who are involved with| |volunteers||fund raising, kennel help, dog walking,

duties. We would never be able to afford the
staff to cover what these people do for us
and they prove their value time and time
again. All of the house checks and
fundraising are done by volunteers as well
as all of the offsite exercise that the dogs
receive. They also help keep our social
media sites up to date and relevant, which

whole.|Para 1.20|2023-23 has been another difficult year, with
even more dogs arriving as unclaimed
strays. It has felt as though we have spent
the whole year ensuring that we can find the
space to keep the dogs properly. We have
homed well, 182 during the year, but more
have arrived. We have also continued to see
some awful neglect cases and dogs who
have clearly had no vaccinations, worming
or other basic medical care.
The emotional toll on our staff has shown
and we have had quite a change around of
personnel, something we have never had a
problem with previously. The combination of
suffering dogs, those with awful
temperaments and the constant pressure of
numbers has proven too much for quite a
few of the employees. Fortunately we have
been able to replace them and have had
amazing support, as ever, from our
volunteers. The volunteers have helped
immensely in spreading the word about our
dogs, raising much needed funds and also
getting donations of food and other
essentials, which we would have struggled
to afford. We have spent more than we have
received but we have stayed on top of things
and not reduced the care and speed of
response at any time. Our rescue may be
made up of a number of people who do
many different tasks to ensure that
everything is done, but those people do it
well and the dogs benefit enormously. Our
behaviourists have also been working hard,
not just improving our dogs’ behaviour, but
also helping those who are struggling with
their own dog’s sociability and training. They
give free sessions and constant back up and

rehoming and maintain a tiny return rate. We
have struggled and juggled financially but
have managed to stay on top of things and
we have helped people who have not
adopted from us but have needed help with
their dog. It has been extremely busy and
high pressure but the dogs are fit and happy
and the staff have stayed good humoured,
plus the volunteers have increased in
