Alliance Publishing Trust IAPTI was sel up as an independent organisation on 1 January 2007 with the
primary rèsponsibility ol publishing Alli8rJce m8g8zine, 8 quarterly m8ga2inè on philanthropy and social
investment with a global subscriber base of approximately 16.814 oTganisalions and individuals as al the
end 012023. In 2024 w8 aim lo increase our subscriber base by 70/y lo 18.000.
Alliance magazine has been in existence for 27 years since it launched in 1996. From the beginning of
1998 until Ihè and of July 2001, it was published by Charities Aid Foundalion ICAFI. From 200110 2007, it
was publlshed by Allawda.
Purpos• and •lms
The Iruslees raview the aims, objectives and activitses of Ihe charity each year. This report looks al what the
charity has athieved and the out¢oTr￿S of ils work wilhin Ihe last 12 months. The Iruslees report the
success ol each key activity an4J the benefits Ihe ¢harity has broughl to I￿)se groups of people that il is sel
up to help. The review also helps the Irust8ès ensur8 the charity's aims, objectives and aclivilie5 Temaine
locused on ils staled purposes.
The trustees have referred lo the guidance contained in th8 Charily Commission's general guidance on
public benefit when reviewing the ¢haiity's aims and objeclives and in planning ils future aclivilies. In
particulai, the trustees consider how planned aclivitias will contribute lo the aims and objectives that have
been sel. Promoting the efficiency and effe¢liveness of charitiès is r8cogniz8d as providing a public benefit
by thè Charity Commission. The material we publish is either distributed free of of charge or paid for
through modest subscriptions. and is available globally lo anyone who would like it.

of a mix ol roid subscriptions and fr88 digital Gopi8s for individuals and organi5ations in developing
countries. In larm5 01 readership. we finished the yèar wilh a loial r8ad8rship Iprinl, digital and controlled
circulation) of 35, 128 an increasÈ ol nearly 10QA on 2022.
Alongside the increase in paid subs¢riptions in 2023, wè saw a large growth in our free subscription
scheme. We ate plèased lo continu8 to offer this scheme to all those working in over 160 countrie5.
Our What's new?, emails and their subscriber only counlerparts Were produc8d twice a week in 2023. This
allowed us lo disseminate rnore ol our frèe cont&nl and gave us more opportunities lo promote the value ol
our paid content. We now have over 16.000 people signed up lo r8ceiv8 this fr88 digital newsletler, which
provides a strong base ol potential subscribers.
We continued lo host regular events includiny ones focused on th8 sp8cial féature ol 8ach magazine. We
fed these add¢d to our presence and credibility in the field. the even15 now produG8 a good incom• str8am
for us and we have been using these events lo er)gagè with non-subseribÈrs. Our events in 2023 were
primarily digital in line with our global mission and had an average of 680 peotAe registering per event
across our annual programme of twelve events which w9r9 all suc¢essfully delivered.
We continued lo produce free content and disseminale il Ihrough our nelwork and the Lalesl from Alliance
blog has gone from strength 10 51renglh. We continue lo offer news. opinion and conference reports on a
daily basis.
The website continue5 lo regularly provide both magazine and oxclusive online articles that are free lo 18ad
by all. Our conference calendar continues lo keep read&rs up lo datt with sector 8venls and everyone can
make Ihe most ol our archive ol over 8,000 articlès by browsing by content type, Iheme or region, allowng
readers lo gel 8lr8ighl lo thts Informalion that matters lo th8m.
We have also *xpandèd our social media presence in 2023 with furlher increases in followers across Ihreg
platfoms. We shore èverything we do via th8se mediums and this dedicated approach has allowed us lo
r$a¢h ngw audiences.

Rèserves pollcy
The Board ol Trustees has examined the requirements for holding an appropriate 18vel of unrèstftctèd
rÈs8rves in order to safeguard the day-to-day running ol the charity and provide undèrlyin9 financial stability
lo protect ils Ipng-lerm projerls. APT aims to hold no less than 400/0 of our annual operabng budg•t al all
limes and strives lo hold as much as 50°A.
As al 31 December 2023, fr8e reseTves lolallgd £327,444, representing 430/0 of projected 2024 core
expendilure.
Remuneration p¢ll¢y
The pay and remuneration ol key manag8m&nl personnel, along with all other staff, is delerminèd by the
board ol trus1￿S at the point of recruilmenl based on the roles and responsibilities and an evaluation of the
sector lor comparable roles. Any increase in this remuneration is delermined by the board of Iruslees at an
annual meeting based on performance against the aims of the charily and their role wilhin that.
Rlsk statement
The Board of Truslees has examined the major risks lo which APT is exposed and systems have been
established lo mikngate these llsks. APT maintains an adive risk rogist8r and busines5 conlinuily plan.
The large51 risk facing APT is Ihe disconlinuing of core granl lunding. To mitigate Ihis risk, APT has since
2012 pursued o plan of incroasing non-grant income to increase the suslainabilily ol the organisalion and
limit the effect a funding withdrawal would hav8 on our annual operations. It also maintains a sensible
rèserves policy 15ee above} which would provide the required time lo seek altemative income sources
should the situation arise.
Asset cover for funds
The assets ol Ihe Irusl are sufficient lo m881 the Irusl's obligations on a fund by fund basis.
Plans for future p8rlod$
We shall continue lo focus on our piincipal areas ol activity, ie publishing Alli8n¢e magazine and Iree-Io-
view online ardcles and inlervigws plus daily blog posts on our Lalesl Irom Alliance blog site. Upcoming
themes lor the magazine includè 'N8w Leaders in Phil8nlhropy' & 'Philanthmpy ènd the common good'we
are looking lo fvrther build our online presence and to increase all fom)s ol r8Bdership, both paid and free
subscribers. WE will continue lo host nTh)nlhly events.
2024 will see the appoinlmenl of a new lull time magazine editor as well as a new parl timè IT & Data
manager to allDW us lo slay on lop of our expanding contacts. In addition wè will engage Ihree more
regional representslivgs wth two in Africa and one in the Gulf lo help us grow our ne￿orkS an
understanding of philanlhropy in this regions.
We will also be expanding our climale coverage, launching an inclusion fund lo further diversify those that
contribute lo Allianc8, 8xpanding our event programme and building & launching a new web511e.

The or9anisallon is a charitable company limitsd by guaranlag, incorporated on 14 September 2006 and
regisler8d as a charily on 10 November 2006.
The company was established und8r a Memorandum of AssocialK)n which established ihg objects and
powers of ihe chaiilable company and is govemed under 115 articles ol association.
All irustees give their lime voluntarily and receive no benelits from the charity. Any gxpenses rfjclaimed
from the chanty are sel out in note 14 to the accounls. Any business relationships between thè tiustèès and
Alliance Publishing Trust IAPTI arè sel out in note 22.
Member5 01 Il* Charity guarantee lo contribute an amount not exceeding £1 lo the assèts of the charity in
the event ol ¥vinding up. The lotal number ol such guarantees al 31 Dècèmber 2023 was nine 12022
eighll. The Iru$lees are m&mbers of Ihe charity bul this entitles them only lo voting rights. The IruslèÈs have
no beneficial interest in the charity.
