The day to day management of the charity resides with the Chair and Company Secretary jointlyi who
report to the Board of Directors on a monthly basis. Fundraising is overseen by the Board and is
undertaken by Individual dlrettors and volunteers who are also members of the company.

Objectives and actlvltles
The objects of the charity are as follows:
a) To promote the relief of people who have, or who have had, cancer, their families and carers, by
the provision of a range of person-centred therapies and counselling, and also to develop home visits
ft)r people with can￿r to reduce isolation and promote friendshlp.
b) To promote self help and mutual support and strive to improve the quality of life of people wlth
cancer, their families and carers.
Achlevements and performance
Cancer Connections continues to eXperIen￿ hlgh demand for Its services which, inevitably, incurs an
Increa* in expenditure. However, thanks to the continued financial support of the local community
and an Increase In the grant from the local NHS authorlty, funds carried forward at the year-end were
not materlally different from the prevlous year thus malntalnlng the secure financial position of the
charity.

The charity relles on grant funding and donations In order to assist it In achlevlng Its objectives.
During the year Income received from donations and grants totalled £99,364. Wlthin the period the
charlty also re￿iVed income of £74,208 from varlous other sources.
Cancer Q)nnections Llmlted would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those organlsatlons
whlch provlded funding and donations during the year, as well as those others who have provided
financlal support.
The trustees believe that the company should hold financlal reserves In order to ensure that the
charlty can contlnue to operate and meet the needs of clients In the event of unforeseen and
potentially financially damaging circumstances arising.lt has tsken into account the reliability and
Continuan￿ of future funding, timing of cash flows and working capitsl requirements, cover for
unplanned emergency repairs and potential liabilities relating to staff should there be closure of a
particular activity.
The trustees consider therefore that It would be prudent to set aside a reserves policy of £lOO,000
equivalent to 6 months running costs,
Reserves
Durlng the year the total funds of the charitsble company amounted to £794,759 of which £354,705 is
invested in fixed assets (the charltles owned property) which are held in a designated capital reserve
Free Reserves
The free reseNes of the trust amount to £440,054 which is felt to be sufficient to meet the charity's
reseNe requirement and sustsin the trust's expenditure in the immediate future.

Small company provisions
This report has been prepared in accordance with the provisions applicable to companies entitled to
the small companies exemption.
In preparing these financial statements, the trustees are required to:
select suitsble accounting policies and then apply them consistentlyi
observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP.
make judgements and accountlng estlmates that are reasonable and prudent;
state whether appllcable UK Accounting Standards have been followed, subject to any material
departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements.
prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume
that the charitsble company wlll contlnue In operation.
The trustees are responslble for keeping adequate accountlng records that are sufficient to show and
explaln the charitable companys transactions and disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the
financial position of the charitable company and enable them to ensure that the financial statements
comply wlth the Companles Act 2006. They are also responslble for safeguarding the assets of the
charitable company and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud
and other irregularities.

I report on the financial statements of the Charlty for the year ended 31 March 2024, which are set
out on pages 5 to 21.
Respective Responsibilities of the Committee and Examiner
The Charivs commlttee are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements. The Charity 5
committee conslder that an audit is not required for the period under Section IH(2) of the Charities
Act 2011 C'the 2011 Act,) and that an independent examination is needed.
It Is my responsibility to;
examine the financial ststements under section 145 of the 2011 Act;
to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission
under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Att; and
to state whether particular matters have come to my attentlon.
Basls of Independent Examlner's Statement
My examlnatlon was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity
Commlssion. An examination Includes a review of the accountlng records kept by the charity and
comparison of the financlal statements presented with those records. It also Includes consideration of
any unusual items or disclosures in the financial statements, and seeklng explanations from you as the
committee Con￿rning any such matters. The prO￿dureS undertaken do not provide all the evidence
that would be requlred In an audlt, and consequently no oplnlon Is glven as to whether the financlal
statements present a "true and falr view" and the report Is limited to those matters set out In the
statement below.

General Information
The charlty Is a public benefit entity and a private company limited by guarantee, registered in
England and Wales and a registered charity in England and Wales. The address of the registered
office is 258 Harton Lane, South Shields, Tyne & Wear, NE34 OLR.
ststement of Compliance
These financial statements have been prepared In compliance with FRS 102, 'The Financial
Reportlng Standard applicable in the UK and the Republic of Ireland,, the Ststement of
Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the
Financial Reportlng Stsndard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (Charities
SORP (FRS 102)) and the Companles Act 2006.
Accounting Pollcles
Basls of preparatlon
The financlal statements have been prepared on the historical cost basls, as modlfled by the
revaluatlon of certain financial assets and Ilabllltles and Investment properties measured at fair
value through Income or expendlture.
The flnanclal statements are prepared In sterllng, which Is the functlonal currency of the entity.
Going concern
There are no materlal uncertalnties about the charlty's ablllty to contlnue.
Fund accountlng
Unrestricted funds are avallable for use at the discretion of the trustees to further any of the
charlty's purposes.
Designated funds are unrestricted funds earmarked by the trustees for particular future project
or commitment.
Restritted funds are subjected to restrictions on their expenditure declared by the donor or
through the terms of an appeal, and fall Into one of two sub-classes: restrlcted Income funds or
endowment funds.

Incomlng resources
All incoming resources are included in the statement of financial attivities when entitlement has
passed to the charity. it is probable that the economic benefits associated with the transaction
will flow to the charity and the amount can be reliably measured. The following specific policies
are applied to particular categories of income:
Income from donations or grants is recognised when there is eviden￿ of entitlement to the
gift, receipt is probable and Its amount can be measured reliably.
legacy income Is recognised when recelpt Is probable and entitlement is established.
Income from donated goods Is measured at the falr value of the goods unless this is
Impractical to measure reliablyi in which case the value is derived from the cost to the
donor or the estimated resale value, Donated facilities and services are recognised In the
accounts when recelved If the value can be reliably measured. No amounts are Included for
the contrlbutlon of general volunteers.
Income from contracts for the supply of services Is recognlsed wlth the dellvery of the
contracted servlce. Thls Is classlfied as unrestricted funds unless there Is a contractual
requirement for it to be spent on a particular purpose and returned If unspent, In whlch
case It may be regarded as restricted.
Resources expended
Expenditure is recognised on an accruals basis as a liability is incurred. Expenditure includes any
VAT which cannot be fully recovered, and is classlfied under headings of the ststement of
financlal attlvltles to which it relates:
expenditure on raising funds includes the costs of all fundraising artivities, events, non-
charitable tradlng activltles, and the sale of donated goods.
expenditure on charitable attivlties Includes all costs Incurred by a charity In undertaking
attivities that further Its charitable alms for the benefit of Its beneficlarles, Includlng those
support costs and costs relating to the governance of the charity apportioned to charitsble
activities,
other expendlture Includes all expenditure that Is neither related to ralslng funds for the
charity nor part of Its expenditure on charitable attivities.
All costs are allocated to expendlture categories reflecting the use of the resource. Dlrect costs
attributable to a single artivity are allocated directly to that activity. Shared costs are
apportioned between the. attivities they contribute to on a reasonable, justifiable and consistent
basls.

Tangible assets
Tangible assets are initially recorded at cost, and subsequently stated at cost less any
accumulated depreciation and impairment losses. Any tsngible assets carried at revalued
amounts are recorded at the fair value at the date of revaluation less any subsequent
accumulated depreciation and subsequent accumulated impairment losses.
