The Financial statement has been prepared in accordance with charities accounting and complies with the charity’s constitution by Alex & Co Accountancy Ltd. ## **Principal Objective** The Iranian Disability Support Association (IDSA) is established to promote the relief of Iranian and Persianspeaking disabled people and their carers living in London by provision of service, information and advice. ## **Constitution** Iranian Disability Support Association (IDSA) is a charitable organisation (Registered No. 1116648) operating under a written constitution. It was constituted in 2004 and has become an organisation of disabled people and for disabled people, with a clear and firm commitment to support Iranian and Persian disabled people who seek support and need help. ## **Management committee** Members of the Management Committee are elected for a period of one year at the Annual General meeting, after which, if they are to continue, they must be re-elected. The Committee shall consist of Chairperson, Secretary, and Treasurer. The Management Committee must have at least three members; at the end of March 2020 there were four. The Management Committee meets times a year and is responsible for the strategic direction and policy of the charity. ## **Responsibilities of the Management Committee** Charity law requires the management committee to prepare financial statements for the financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Association and of its incoming resources of the year and the application of resources for the period. In preparing those financial statements, the management committee is required to:  select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently; - make judgments and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; 4 state whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements; - prepare financial statements on a going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to assume that the charity will continue on that basis. ## **Risk management** The management committee has reviewed the major risks to which the charity is exposed and, where practical, has taken steps to guard against or mitigate them. It has clear policies on many matters of professional good practice and on issues like health and safety, and compliance and standards of performance is monitored through appraisal and supervision processes. The major risk for the charitable organisation, especially for small organisations like IDSA, is funding. In response to this, the IDSA’s management committee has implemented a reserve plan. ## **IDSA relationships** IDSA is a member of World Disability Union (WDU), Great London Authority (GLA), Happy Soul Festival and has the meeting, and relation with the others member such as International Disability Alliance ,Inclusion London, Transport for all. Within the Iranian community, the IDSA has good relations with the most of the Iranian charitable organisations like the Iranian Association, Iranian medical society and others. The IDSA receives support from the Iranian Association, the Ealing Council for Voluntary Service and Richmond Mind, and has good relations with other charities which are working in the area of disability like Richmond JSNAand Ealing Centre for Independent Living,Hammersmith & Fulham Refugee Forum. ## 5 **Aims, Objectives and Activities** The aim of IDSA is to provide support, awareness about disability issues. information, advice, and advocacy to disabled people and their carers, parents or guardians who originate from Iran and Persian-speaking regions or who have Iranian/Persian-speaking regional heritage, who are living in the greater and inner areas of London and who need to access voluntary, statutory and/or government services. This includes services such as housing, welfare rights, health services and the judicial system. IDSA also provides support and assistance with activities that lead to the empowerment of disabled people from the Iranian/Persian Community who are resident in the greater areas of London and are UK residents. ## **Activities and review** During the year under review, the Association fulfilled its mission by: - providing advice, information and assistance on a daily basis on welfare benefits, immigration, housing, women, training and education; - disseminating information and conducting a need assessment survey on community needs; - organising a series of cultural events in the community; - helping Iranian and other Persian-speaking disabled people to complete paperwork such as filling in application forms; - providing advice and guidance on further education and employment; - providing one-to-one counselling on mental health issues. - providing interpreting and translation; - organising a series of workshops on Mental Health support and education on opportunity equality; and - IT skills training. 6 ## **Chairman’s report** We all continue to find our lives disrupted by Corvid and social distancing is still recommended. With this in mind the board of Directors have concluded that holding our AGM via zoom. I am proud to have made a contribution to this year’s annual report in my role as Chair of the Iranian Disability Support Association (IDSA) - too many people I know personally have a lot of problem with the coronavirus especially among the disabled people. We all have noticed the people with disability had serious health inequality at the time of the onset of the pandemic - we all have a duty to address inequality and all have different paths and opportunities to do this. I am fortunate to have been able to work alongside a team of people as a chair of the IDSA steering group 2020/21 and I am clear that the evidence and insight gained from the review identifies very clear changes that can be made that will have a direct impact on tackling health inequality for people with a disability. I urge everyone to read this report and take action that improves the quality of life for local people and families. The reporting period was an unprecedented year impacted by the pandemic. Lockdowns and social distancing affected the way we were able to provide services, promote equality of opportunity and good relations. As a charity organisation we adapted the normal way we do work and moved to virtual provision of many services, while maintaining on the ground key service provision. This included supporting our community to understand and avail of the technology many were now compelled to use. The period saw an increased emphasis on supporting staff, the community and their well-being. As the previous years It remains for me to thank who help the IDSA for their commitment and hard work in their all-important governance role for which the get no reward other than the satisfaction of knowing they help to improve people’s lives. Also thanks to donor and our volunteers without whose dedication anything would work. Dr M Sarfarsi **7** ## **Treasurer’s report for Year ended 31st March 2021** Our income Our income was £53,060  Total fundraising income increased. This is a positive result in the context of a year in which face-to-face fundraising was on hold because of pandemic period. The net profit from fundraising income and Corvid related Government Grants, enabled us to help and to support our community on charitable work supporting disabled people. Our spending Our charitable spending was £40,488 Every pound we raise is extremely important to us and we carefully plan our use of resources to get the most impact. In 2020 to 21 for every £1 we spent, 73% was spent on our charitable goals to help disabled people and their families. The remainder goes towards running our organisation and generating funds for our future plans. **8** ## **Advice and Information Service:** The corona epidemic last year has led to many of our association meetings being video conferencing. The Advice and Information service deals with a range of enquiries on disability-related matters, supporting Iranian and Farsi speaking disabled people, and anyone else within the Iranian and Farsi speaking community who has a disability related enquiry. Through the advice and information services on disability matters IDSA helps the clients to understand their rights. For more complex issues we have referred them to the related organisations which could help them become more aware of their right. Last year COVID-19 has affected opportunities to be active as the previous years. Our services had disrupted by quarantine. So our advice and Information service dealt with the clients online. This year we have a lot of times and occasions to do more awareness about the lives of people with disabilities. Their problem and difficulties during the covid-19, we did this through radio and television broadcasters and the press. **9** ## **The Corona epidemic and Disabled People** ## **Issues highlighted by disabled people during the pandemic** The corona epidemic has led to more disabled and non-disabled people feeling that they do not have the opportunity to be as active as they want to be compared to 2019/20 and when asked to think of 2020 before the pandemic. Impact of COVID-19 on ability to be active Disabled people were more likely to report that COVID-19 had affected their ability doing daily live such as shopping, going out, sport, exercise or physical activity than nondisabled people. Younger disabled people were particularly affected. The top ways COVID-19 has reduced activity levels for disabled people The pandemic has presented disabled people with new barriers to being active. The need to self-isolate, fear of contracting the virus, and the impact on their health were particularly common barriers for disabled people. Understanding how COVID-19 and the associated restrictions have affected activity levels is vital to helping disabled people be active. Disabled people are more likely to experience more barriers related to the pandemic. Selfisolation, the impact on health, the fear of contracting the virus, and concerns about social distancing are especially important for disabled people. Disabled people are also more affected by a lack of space at home and a lack of support. Information about being active during the pandemic Disabled people were more likely to disagree that they had received enough information and advice on how to be active and organised their daily live during the pandemic. Disabled people whose ability to take part in society had been reduced by COVID-19 were less likely to agree that they had received enough information. ## **10** Impact of COVID-19 on disabled people COVID-19 has impacted those with health conditions in a range of ways. The impact on mental health was most commonly mentioned, particularly through lack of social interaction and effect on routine. Many people mentioned the impact of cancelled health, appointments and delayed treatments. Increased stress, difficulty obtaining medicines, and being unable to use normal strategies to manage conditions or impairments led to worsening health or symptoms. Many disabled people were shielding as a result of COVID-19, further reducing their social contact and increasing isolation. Concerns about the future after the pandemic Disabled people had a range of concerns about the future. The most common concern was when life would get back to normal (when it would be safe to live our lives like we used to). Many disabled people were worried about themselves or someone they know contracting the virus, and their health worsening. Concerns about a second wave and lockdown were also common. Some were worried about the impact of the pandemic on the economy, the impact on their career or job and society as a whole.
