The Downsend Parents. Assodatlon (also known as the DPA) Is a parents, assodatlon consistlng of parats, guardlans
and carers of pupils at Downsend Prep School and all &aff employed at the School. The DPA Is governed ty a
Constitutlon. whlch was adopted on 14 Septwnber 2006 ￿or to the reglstr&lon of the DPA as a Charlty on 31
Ortober 2006.
The DPA Is a member of FrrA-UK. a natlonal charlty repres￿ng parert teacher organlsatlons. Through our
membership of ITfA-UK the DPA has Publlc ￿a￿lIty and Personal Acddent lnSurnn￿ to cover Its actlvltles, members
and volunteer5.

Down*nd paren￿ Association (the DPA) Is a reglstfful charlty, whose prlndpal objectlve Is to advano the
educatlon of wplls at Downsend Prep School (the School) by developlng effertlve relatlonships between the &aff.
parents and others assodated wlth the School. to ￿gage In activities and provlde fracilities or equlpment vthlch
support the School and advan￿ the educatlon of the wplls. The tnstees have had regarxl to the commlsslon's publlc
beneflt guidan￿ In exerdslng thelr dutles.
All parents and guardlans of cun*ntly reglstered pupils of the School are member5 of the DPA as vlell as the t&ichlng
' and non-teaching staff employed by the School. All members are entiued to attend and vote at all General meetlngs.
The management of the DPA Is vested In a Cornmfrtt￿. all of whom mu# be membefs of the DPA. The Committee
members are appolnted or reapp￿nted annually at the Annual GaRral meetlng that Is usually held In Septanber
every year.
The Chalr. Treasurer and Secretsry are elected from the ffl￿bers of the COMMItt￿ at the Annual CA)wal Meeting.

The DPA have had a fantastlc year, thls vdas athleved thnwgh a strong mlx of sodal events for the parerts and staff,
In addltlon to runnlng the ever-popular Unlform Shop. whllst hostlng actlvltles for the chlldren at the School. Thls
year the accourts show a surplus of £13.289 (2023:£11.765).
Income for the year totslled £46,171 (2023:£39,405) whlth arose from fundrnlslng Ktlvttles and the unlform thop.
Fundralslng actlvltles thls year were further advanced vrflth our flrst ever "Welcome ba(* to Sthool Rodeo". as well as
hostlng dlscos, a parenVt&icher "Quiz Nlghtr and the fantastlc "Summer Ball". The DPA also contlnued to run
tuckshops In addltlon to our refreshment actlvltles for Easter. Halloween and Chrlstsnas as well as the tradltlonal Jolly
Bags for Chrlstrnas. We also held an I￿ skatlng eV￿rt for the senlor school and a movle night for the Junlor Sd￿1.
The Unlform Shop contlnues to be a very good Sour￿ of Income for the DPA as well as an essentSal Serv1￿ for many
parents. Varlous Intakes and sales events wffe held thrnughout the year. The th>p Is run and organlsed by
commlttee member Nlcola Burger, asslsted by a group rf parent Voluntee￿ New unlform sales totslled £411
(2023:£870). The second hand unlforms sold on behalf of parents or from donatlons contlnue to be very popular and
these earned the DPA commlsslon amourrtlng to £12.503 (2023: £6,986).

Thls year the DPA has provlded or spent £3.371 (202£:£4,356) on ￿uipment. resourres and donatlons for the
beneflt of the puplls at the sthool. wlth the alm of wovidlng the quallty extras that the s($￿ cannot always
supply. The prfmary alm of the donatlons belng to SUPPOrt areas whlch benalted mo& ￿pIlS rather than a
partlcular group. Thls year we supported requests for those woiects whlch fft our obJeLtlves. A Ilst of donatlons to
the school Is given In note 4 to the accounts.
At the end of the flnandal year the DPA had reserves of £44.038 (2022:£30.749). 2024 has been a gr&it year for
puplls, staff and carers allke. and thls Is reflected In the StrDnger finandal p0S￿On of the DPA.
Futurn Plans
The DPA contlnues to be an tr*sential and appredated part of the fabrlc of Downsend Sthool thanks to the
commltment and energy of the Commlttee, the parats and volunteers who run the UnlfDm) Shop. the aass Reps
and Frfends as well as the ￿pport of the H&idmastw and hls team at the School. As long as there are people at
the school prepared to volurteer thdr tlme to promote the DPA. Its fundrntsong and social actlvities. the DPA wlll
have a brlght fU￿re. prDvldlng the puplls of Downs￿ wlth those extrds that Padlltate thelr learnlng experleno as
well as encouraging every famlly wlth a pupil at the Sthool to be part of Downsend Sthool 1Sfe.

Independent examiner's report to the members of Downsend Parents, Association
I report to the members on my examination of the accounts of the Downsend Parents, Association for the
year ended 31 August 2024.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity members you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the
requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act,).
I report in respect of my examination of the Association's accounts carried out under section 145 of the
2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the
Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in
connection with the examination. There were no items giving me cause to believe that in any material
respect:
accounting records were not kept in respect of the Association as required by section 130 of the Act;
or
2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or
3. the accounts do not complywith the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of
accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any
requirement that the accounts give a'true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an
independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which
attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be
reached.
