Pablos Horse Sanctuary

Charity Number 1116394 Trustees Report 2021/22

It has been another highly challenging year;

The number of unwanted horses has been growing as we now have over 90 under our care and a further 25 “fostered out” to caring friend several occasions due to corona virus issues.

We have been fortunate with the support we have received financially a lot of donations and gifts including a bequest from a supporter after her sad death near the end of the year. This individual bequest ensured our success for the this year and a stronger financial position in future years. Fundraising events have proven to be successful this year which has helped to support our finances.

We are a sanctuary for old and infirm horses who can no longer be ridden and we always have a significant number of “special needs” residents which does have implications for the costs of such animals, especially with vet fees and the costs of removing deceased horses.

We encourage visitors to come and pet the horses (within the covid regulations) and thus carry significant Public Liability insurance. These visits have proven to have therapeutic benefits for our human visitors suffering with depression, loneliness and general health conditions.

As the country comes out of the impact of the virus we are hopeful for future fundraising opportunities.

We have lost two of our best fields which have been sold to builders for housing developments and we are now seeking additional land but it is very scarce within the Melton area. In the meantime we are renting short term across the district which has led to increased travelling costs and increase repair and maintenance costs.

When the new land is obtained it will require additional fencing to safeguard the horses and this will increase expenditure in the future.

We are grateful for our volunteers carrying the load of looking after the animals and contributing to organising fundraising.

The prospects for the future are concerning as people are finding increasingly costly to keep horses especially those animals are becoming elderly or infirm.

Audit Report 2021/22

There are no assets to report with the exception of the Current Account.

The horses due to their condition were not purchased and have no resale value thus they are not regarded as assets.

There are no significant levels of feed held as stocks since they are purchased fresh on a weekly basis.

The land where the horses are kept and graze are all rented on a short term basis and thus are not regarded as assets.

The vast majority of transactions are carried out through the bank account and especially this year there is very little cash movement but records are kept of all such transactions.

The accounts are checked and verified and supported by receipts to confirm all transactions.

There are no creditors or debtors.

The all bequest are dealt with by solicitors of the deceased and ware in compliance with the statements laid out by the Will.

The accounts therefore represent a true and fair view of the operations of the charity for the year ending 31st March 2022.
