ROTHWELL TEMPERANCE BAND

REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES for the Year Ended 31 October 2024

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

Recruitment, appointment, induction and training of new trustees

The band operates through the efforts of a small number of trustees who are mindful of the need to ensure that there is continuity and sustainability. New trustees are chosen from individuals who are deemed to be fit for the purpose of the role and, subject to a successful probation period, are enrolled as full trustees if all parties are in agreement.

The charity is governed by the constitution adopted 4[th] September 2006.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Our objectives continued to be to study, practise and encourage the enjoyment of brass music in all its forms in order to foster public knowledge and appreciation of such music by means of public performance or otherwise, including the training and education of brass and percussion players, male and female, from all age groups and from all backgrounds.

Public benefit

Trustees confirm that the band has complied with its duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the Charity Commission in exercising its powers and duties. The trustees believe that all of the band’s work has public benefit.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

Reserves policy

The trustees regularly review financial commitments to ensure there are sufficient funds for the band’s operational commitments to be delivered.

Review of the accounts for the year

The trustees have worked very hard to maintain financial support through the period following Covid. The band is registered for Gift Aid and continues to receive refunds from HMRC.

Looking forward to 2024/25:

  1. The Band will be performing more concerts and has been invited to represent the UK at the French Open Brass Band Championships.

  2. The Band will continue to promote its involvement and encouragement of young people.

  3. The Band will continue to encourage the Patrons scheme.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE

The band had a steady year considering the inclusion of new players. It had success at the Yorkshire Area championships and took part in the British Open Spring Festival (Grand Shield) at Blackpool.
