achievements
ofthe charity
during the year|||During the accounting
period
April 1"2020 to March 31"2021 the two
Hostels Dolgoch and Ty'n Cornel were hit by the Covid pandemic,
but
emerged
in a strong
position. The Hostels closed on March 20'" 2020,
just before the new Financial Year commenced
and, other than fora very|| ||||short period
in October, did not re-open
until mid-April 2021, after the|| ||||Financial Year had finished. Just 38 ovemights
were recorded
by both|| ||||Hostels
in the year in question.|| ||||During the period ofclosure, the Hostel Managers
made occasional|| ||||visits, always
in line with current Welsh Government
Regulations,
to|| ||||check on the Hostels, do any essential
maintenance,
and arrange access|| ||||for any external contractors.
With regard to more specialise maintenance|| ||||work we continue to seek the services of local contractors whenever|| ||||possible. The work they have undertaken
during the year included the|| ||||regular maintenance
ofthe fire alarm and emergency
lighting
systems,|| ||||fire appliances,
the annual gas appliance checks, and drainage
works.|| ||||Chlorination
of the water supply
took place at both Hostels.|| ||||Work in this period was carried out to make the Hostels Covid compliant.|| ||||Risk assessments
were carried out, non-essential
items were removed|| ||||from the kitchens and common rooms, including
the removal and storing|| ||||away of books, soft furnishings
and kitchen crockery, and the purchase|of| ||||specialist cleaning
materials.
New arrangements
for bedding
and laundry|| ||||are in place, and the Wardens
have Covid cleaning
instructions.|| ||||Registration
was achieved with an external agency "We' re Good to Go"|| ||||which is approved
by
Visit Wales'; this gives visitors re-assurance
that|| ||||we have appropriate
Covid procedures
in place.|| ||||Seven Trustee meetings
and one Open Meeting
have been held via|| ||||Zoofn.|| ||||All Trust policies are reviewed
and updated
every 3years and during the|| ||||past yearthe
Environmental
Policy; Equality and Diversity Policy; Food|| ||||Safety Policy; and Accident and Incident
Reporting
Policy have been|| ||||updated.|| ||||At Ty n Cornel
the recently
installed
satellite phone system was taken|| ||||inside the Hostel
building
by installing
cables across the yard from the|| ||||shed which contains the connection
equipment.
The out-dated
sewerage|| ||||system was upgraded
to keep foul water and fresh water separate
in|| ||||order to enable the septic tank to function properly.
Plans were|| ||||developed
forthe provision
of additional
self- contained
accommodation|| ||||in the form ofa high-specification
Shepherd's
Hut in the garden,
and a|| ||||planning
application
was submitted
to Ceredigion
County Council, the|| ||||plans being drawn up by a local architect. The grounds
around the Hostel|| ||||continued
to be maintained
with wildlife
in mind,
including
have a hedge|| ||||expertly
laid by a local contractor.|| ||||At Dolgoch an ultraviolet
water filter was fitted, removing the requirement|| ||||to boiling
the water before drinking.
The filter uses new ultraviolet
light-|| ||||emitting
diode (UV-LED) technology,
which makes it suitable forthe|| ||||Hostel's
off-grid solar electricity system. Plans were also developed
for|| ||||the installation
ofan improved
electrical system
with sufficient capacity|| ||||and energy storage to meet the future needs ofthe Hostel. Provision
is|| ||||planned
for improved
lighting
throughout
the Hostel; a fridge during
the|| ||||summer months;
and other future requirements.|| ||||The checki
