Trustees’ Annuai Report for the year ending 31% May 2025
The Charity's principal address is: 43 North Street, Chichester, PO19 1NF
The trustees who managed the charity during the year were: Anna Hill (Chairman), Philip Wake (Treasurer), Emma-Jane Wyatt (Artistic Director), David Billinge (Secretary), and Sally Chittleburgh, Anne Foxell, Pamela Kemp and Kevin Maynard are also committee members. The trustees acted for the whole of the year. All members stand down after three years and, if willing, are then re-elected by the committee. Our thanks, in particular, go to Emma-Jane who retires as Artistic Director at this AGM for her expertise and tireless work in bringing excellent ensembles to Chichester in recent seasons. Anna Starkey has volunteered to replace her.
The object of the Society is to promote, improve, develop and maintain public education in the appreciation of the art and science of music in all its aspects by the presentation of public concerts and recitals; and for such general purposes as shall be exclusively charitable as the trustees may from time to time decide. The main activity of the Society is to present a series of chamber music concerts each year which are open to all.
The charity is a society governed by a constitution which was adopted on 25 July 2006. In January 2006 a new series of four chamber music concerts was launched at the Chichester Assembly Room. This was followed by the establishment of an annual series of six concerts between October and March. From time-totime CCC stages a celebrity concert at Champs Hill Music Room, by kind invitation of the Bowerman Charitable Trust. The Society has no endowments, and its income depends on a combination of ticket sales, sponsorship, donations and occasional grants. The support of our own members in becoming patrons and sponsors has always been important to us and this support is greatly appreciated.
This season has been conducted with the normal capacity of 170 seats. Nevertheless, audiences have never quite reached capacity as they did before Covid. Some people are probably still nervous of entering a crowded concert hall. We hope this nervousness will gradually pass and audience numbers return to preCovid tevels.
Overall, we made a surplus in the year of £710 (2024 loss £3,056) and drew down £2,000 from our reserves fo support cashflow and ensure we continued to stage the concerts and meet our charitable objects. A 22nd season of six concerts is to start on 2°¢ October 2025. Our forecast for the next season is, as always, prudently based with an excellent range of ensembles and we are fortunate fo have a new sponsor in Kirker Holidays replacing part of the long running sponsorship from Raymond James, Chichester. We are most fortunate to be able to count on continuing member donations to help meet the rising costs of staging these excellent concerts and would welcome new donors as well.
We will continue to offer free tickets to young people under 25 even though The Cavatina Charitable Trust has ended their scheme to provide a grant towards half of the cost of these places. We feel it is so important fo encourage young people to experience top quality chamber concerts that we should continue to support this ourselves as part of our charitable objects and public benefit. The reserves policy is to have sufficient funds to cover the cost of a season's concerts, support cashflow, meet the cost of the free young persons’ tickets, and fund any exceptional costs involved in staging and making improvements to the presentation of our concerts (higher fees, piano hire, lighting, music stands, efc). The current reserves are considered adequate. The trustees declare that they have approved this trustees’ report and that the charity remains a going concern.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT ON THE ACCOUNTS
Report to the trustees and members of the Chichester Chamber Concerts Society on the accounts for the year ended 31% May 2025.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility:
-
(a) To examine the accounts under section 145 of the Act
-
(b) To follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5}(b) of the Act
-
(c) To state whether particular matters have come to my attention
Basis of Independent Examiner's Statement
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently | do not express an audit opinion on the accounts.
:
Independent Examiner’s Statement
In the course of my examination no matter has come to my attention
-
Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the trustees have not met the requirements to ensure that:
-
e Proper accounting records are kept in accordance with section 130 of the Act, and
-
e Accounts are prepared which agree with the accounting records and comply with the accounting Requirements of the Act; or
-
