Chichester Chamber Concerts
Registered charity no. 1115795
Trustees' Annual Report for the year ending 31[st] May 2022
The Charity's principal address is: 43 North Street, Chichester, PO19 1NF
The trustees who manage the charity are: Anna Hill (Chairman), Philip Wake (Treasurer), Emma-Jane Wyatt (Artistic Director) David Billinge (Secretary)
Sally Chittleburgh, Anne Foxell, Raymond Greenlees, Kevin Maynard,
The trustees acted for the whole of the year with the exception of David Billinge and Anne Foxell who joined the committee in March 2022. All members stand down after three years and, if willing, are then re-elected by the committee. NB. Kevin Maynard joined the committee in October 2019 and was elected at the AGM 2020. Emma-Jane Wyatt and Philip Wake joined in October 2020.
The object of the Society is to promote, improve, develop and maintain public education in the appreciation of the art and science of music in all its aspects by the presentation of public concerts and recitals; and for such general purposes as shall be exclusively charitable as the trustees may from time to time decide. The main activity of the Society is to present a series of chamber music concerts each year which are open to all.
The charity is a society governed by a constitution which was adopted on 25[th] July 2006. In January 2006 a new series of four chamber music concerts was launched at the Chichester Assembly Room. This proved to be so successful that further series of concerts have taken place between October and March every year. From time to time CCC stages a celebrity concert at Champs Hill Music Room, by kind invitation of the Bowerman Charitable Trust.
An eighteenth season of six concerts is to start on 6th October 2022.
The Society has no endowments, and its income depends on a combination of ticket sales and sponsorship plus occasional grants. The support of our own members in becoming patrons and sponsors has always been important to us. This season was affected by a restricted audience in the Autumn but the Spring concerts built up to a full hall in February and March with concerts by the Chiaroscuro Quartet (February) and Chiaroscuro Quartet and Friends (March). Nevertheless, we made an overall loss in the year of £9,125 and drew down on our reserves to ensure we continued to stage the concerts and meet our charitable objects.
Our forecast for the next season is, as always, optimistic and we are fortunate to have continuing sponsorship offered from Raymond James Chichester.
We shall continue to offer free admission to young people under 25 under the auspices of the Cavatina Chamber Music Trust Student Ticket Scheme, which aims to introduce young people to chamber music.
The current reserves policy is to accumulate sufficient funds to cover the cost of a season's concerts and any exceptional costs involved in making improvements to the presentation of our concerts. (lighting, music stands etc)
The trustees declare that they have approved the trustees' report above.
Signed on behalf of the charity's trustees:

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT ON THE ACCOUNTS
Report to the trustees and members of the Chichester Chamber Concerts Society on the accounts for the year ended 31[st] May 2022.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility:
-
(a)To examine the accounts under section 145 of the Act
-
(b)To follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act
-
(c) To state whether particular matters have come to my attention
Basis of Independent Examiner’s Statement
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the accounts.
Independent Examiner’s Statement
In the course of my examination no matter has come to my attention
-
Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the trustees have not met the requirements to ensure that:
-
Proper accounting records are kept in accordance with section 130 of the Act, and
-
Accounts are prepared which agree with the accounting records and comply with the accounting Requirements of the Act; or
-
To which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the Accounts to be reached.
