The trustees present their annual report and financial statements for Ihe year ended 31 March 2024.
The financial slalements have been prepared in accordance with the aC￿￿ntIng policies set out in nole 1 to Ihe
financial slalemenls and comply with the charily's [governing documenti, the Charities Act 2011 and "Accounting
and Reporting by Charilie5'. Slalemenl of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in
accordance wilh Ihe Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland {FRS 102)"
{effeclive 1 January 2019}.
Objectlvès and actlvlties
The objecl, for which the charity was established, as slated in the Memorandum and Arliclès of Associalion, is.. a,
Tho promolion of health through ths pursuil of he311hy recrealion., b. The provision of a gym and fitness classes Ihal
ars open lo everyone, particularly people on It)w incomes, people with disablfilies and Ihoso who would not
olhetwise use or have access to a gym. We achieve our objectives by continuing lo support people living with
disabilities and delivering accessible and affordable exercise classes In our gym and in a range of community
setlings.
Achlevements and perfomian¢e
Key achievements this year include:
Growth in Services:
Our services encompassed both In-person and online aclivilies. To address in¢r8asing demand for our support, and
provide the most accessible range of services, we concentrated our resources on predominantly in-person adivities.
However, we maintained a minimal online exercise and dietary option for those unable to access in-person support.
Refined Focus on Complex Needs:
This year. we refined our focus to support more individuals wilh complex or serious health conditions for extended
periods. By dedicating our resources lo those with higher needs, and therefore Ihe greatest barriers lo exercisè, we
reduced our support to Individuals wilh less-complex disabilities or health conditions. This strategic adjuslm8nt
allow8d us to betler meet the needs ol those requiring inlensNe and longer-16rm assistance
Tailored and Inclussve Support:
Our small, experienced team delivered a highly lailored and indusive seniice. aimlng lo meet the unique needs of
every member within our diverse gym communily
Statutory Gontracts:
We successfully maintained our statutory cnntrad lo deliver Ihe specialisl Disability Weight Management service,
"E.al Wp.11 & Move,, in partnership wtlh LB Tower Hamlels Public Health. This pilot projecl supports local individuals
with disabilities and health conditions in managing Iheii weight.
We continued lo deliver the 'Accessible Exercise and Join In. project for HaGkney residents. in our ongoing
partnership with NEL NHS
Volunteer Contributions".
Volunteers have been vital to our operalions, providing support at all levels of the organisation. This year, we
collaborated with volunteer gym buddies. a bookkeeper. and a creative writer, all of whom enriched our ServI￿S and
community.
Team and Leadership:
The dedicalion of our staff and volunteers ensures the gym remains a friendly. welcoming. and inclusive
environmerbl for all. We are also very graleful for the ongoing ￿mMItMen1 and 5UPPOrt of our Board ofTrustees.

Statlstics
Sep4lce Reach:
This year, we supported 305 individuals through in-person exerase sessions and a number of online sessions.
These were delivered as one-tfrone exercise appointments and small group aclivilies. both al the Ability Bow gym
and in Ihe community.
Referrals from local health services increased lo 206 patients over the year compared to 175 in 2023,
Appointments and Revenue:
We delivered a total of 8,505 appoinlments Ihis year (compared to 4.834 in 2023) and generaled £21,406 from gym
fees {£20,983 in 2023).
Engagement and Communlcatlon:
We continued to publish a weekly news bulletin featuring gym updates, local nev￿, and articles and reviews written
by gym members. This inilialive slrenglhens charily engagement and foslers a sense of belonging among our
members.
Financial review
In this financial year there were some successes In securing new slalulory c£Jnlracls and donations from individuals,
and we slarted lo r8grow our Income from gym fees and service delivery,
The Statement of Finanaal Adivilies shows a defidl of total ￿n￿MIng resources compared with expended resources
of 5,308 (2023 Surplus £1,597). Expenses decreased £5.828 to £240,956. The 2023 expenditure included £15,987
related lo a change In Ihe amount of provision required for service charges and deaning expens8s which was nol
repealed in the curient year.
Going Concern
Al Ilie time of approving the financial slalemenls, the truslees have a reasonable expectation Ihal the charitable
company has adequate resources to continue in operalional existence for the foreseeable future. Thus the trustees
continue to adopt lh8 going corKem basis of accounting in preparing the financial statements.
Reserves pollcy
The Charity has a reserves policy that has a short-teim minimum aim lo maintain sufficienl funds for the company lo
operate al ils ourrenl level over a Ihree-monlh period. The medium-lemi aim of the resetves policy is lo maintain
sufficient fund5 to enable the expansion of cUr￿n1 service5 and Ihe long-term aim is lo maintain sufffcicnl funds to
exlend the Charity's services.
The charily's reserves at the end of Ihe year stood at £40,[￿2. Of these reserves, £13.675 is represented by
reslricled funds, and none are invested in the Charilys fixed assets. At the balance sheel dale the fFee reserves
tolalled £26,387.
Compared to the average expenditure of the Charity during year. the ftEe reserves held at the balance sheel date
fall below the amount stated in our short-term minimum reserves policy.
The IrLFslees have assessed the major risks lo which the charilable company is exposed, and are satisfied Ihal
syslems are in place lo miligale exposure lo the major risks.
Principal funding sources
The main funding sources for the charity are tharilable Irust funding. income from slalutory contracts, and
fundralsed income from sporting and sponsorship events that supporters underlake on our behalf.
Investment powers and policy
Under the Memorandum and Article5 of Associalion, the Charity has Ihe power to ir)vest in any way the Truslees
wish. The policy of the Truslees is to invest any surplus funds on bank deposit.

In shaping our objectives for the year and planning our aclimlies, the trustees have considered Ihe Charity
commission's guidance on public benefit. including Ihe guidance 'public benefit.. iunning a charity (PD2). The
achievements and aclivilies above demonstrale the public benefil arising through the Charily's actlvilies.
Slructure, governance and management
Ability Bow is registered as a registered charity and company limited by guarantee not having a share capital. It Is
governed by Articles of Association. The company was incorporated on 281h April 2006 and registered as a charity
on 261h July 2006. Charity registration nufflber 1115595. company number 05800066. The indusion of volunteers is
an essential arid valued aspect of the work, and enhances the servie2 delivery and a range of wider supportrve roles
such as administration and events.
Recruilment and appolntmsnt of trustees
In recruiting and appoinling nsw Iruslees, the Board r£Jnsiders the, mix of skills and experience Tequired. for
example experience in Ihs education sector, business skills. legal expertise, financia knowledge, personal
involvement in Abilily Bow's work.
The Board has been reviewing ils mix of skills and is looking lo recruils lo fill gape. The minimum number of
Irustees is iwo.. there is no maximum number.
Trustee Induction and training
The Board has piepared a Iruslees induction pack lo ensure thal all new tru51ees quickly become familiar with the
charity and ils work. and with Ihe responsibilities of Iheir role. The trustees will undertake periodic reviews of Iheir
training needs.
Organisallon
The Board meets at least four limes a year 2nd individual trustees do addilional work between Board meetings by
laking interest in particular areas of Ihe Board's work. These include activilies and programmes, heallh and safely,
communications and markeling, finance. fundraising. personnel, policies and procedures and premises.
The Chief Executive, who is 2ppointed by Ihe Iiuslees. manages Ihe day-lo-day operations of the charity under
delegated powers approved by Ihe Iruslees.
The Chief Executive has a small leam of permanenl and Sessional staff, and the charity is supported by volunteers.

I report lo the truslees on my examinatÉon of the financial statements of Ability Bow (the charity) for the year ended
31 March 2024.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the Iruslees of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the financial stalements in accordance with
Ihe requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act).
I reporl in resped of my examination of the charivs financial statements carried oul under seclion 145 of the 2011
Acl. In carrying out my examination I have folbwed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission
under section 145{5)(b) of the 2011 Act.

Accounting policlès
1.1 Accountlng convention
The financial slalements have been prepared in accordancE with the chaiity's Igoverning documenll, the
Charities Act 2011. FRS 102 "The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in Ihe UK and Republic of Ireland"
{"FRS 102.) and Ihe Charities SORP "Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommendéd
Praciice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard
applicable in Ihe UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)" (effective l January 2019). The charily Is a Public
Benefit Entity as defined by FRS 102.
The financial statements have departed from the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 only lo
Ihe exlenl required to provide a true and fair view. This departure has involved following the Slalemenl of
Recommended Practice for tharilies apptying FRS 102 rather than the version of the Statemenl of
Recommended Practice which is referred lo in the Regulations but which has since been withdrawn.
The financial slalements are prepared in sterling, which is Ihe functional currency of the charity. Monelary
amounts in these financial slatemenls are rounded lo Ihe nearest £.
The financial slalements have been prepared under the hislorical cost convenlion, Imodified to include the
revalualion of freehold properties and lo include investment properties and c8rtain financial instruments al fair
valuel. The principal accounting policies adopted are sel oul below,
1.2 Going concern
Al the time of approving the financial slalemenls, the Iruslees have a reasonabla expectation that the charity
has adequate resources to continue in operalional exislence for the foreseeable future. Thus Ihe Iruslees
continue lo adopt the going concern basis of accounting in weparing the financial stalemenls.
The Income of the tharily rose during the year. and the charily took sleps to reduce expenditure, whlch has
resulted In Ihe free reserves at Ihe balance sheet dale totalling £26.387.
1.3 Charitable funds
Unreslricled funds are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of Iheir charitable
objectives.
Reslricled fund5 are 5ubjecl lo specific condilions by donors as to how they may be used. The purposes and
uses of the reslricled funds arc sel out in the notes to the finanual statements.
1.4 Income
Income is recognised when the charily is legally entilled lo il aftei any performance conditions have been met,
the amounts can be measured reliably, and it is probable Ihat income will be received.
Cash donations are recognised on receipt. Other donations are recognised once Ihe charity has been nolified
of the donation. unless performance conditions require deferral of the amount. Income tax recoverable in
relation to donations Teceived under Gift Aid or deeds of covenant is iecognised al Ihe time of the donation.
Legacies are recognised on re￿Ipl or othe￿iSe if Ihe charity has been notified of an impending dislribulion,
the amounl is known, and receipt is expecled. If the amounl is not known. the legacy is treated as a
conlingenl assel.

Donated professional services and donated facrfilies are recognised as Income when the charity has control
over the Ilem, any conditions associated with thè donaled ilem have been met, Ihe receipt of economic benefit
from the use by the charity of the Item is probable and that economic benefit can be measured reliably. In
accordance with the charities SORP {FRs 102). the general volunteer time of the charity is not recognised in
the main body of the financial accounts bul detail is contained in the Trustees report.
On receipt, donated professional services and donated facilities are recognised on the basis of the value of
the gift lo the charily which is the amounl Ihe charity would have been willing lo pay to obtain services or
facilities of equivalent economic benefit on the open market.. a coiresponding amounl is then recognised in
expenditure in Ihe period of receipt. No such services were received during the year.
Income from oharllable activities received by way of revenue grants and donations are credilcd lo restricted
incoming resources on Ihe earlier dale of when they are received or when they are receivable, unless Ihey
relate lo a specified future period, in which case they are deferred,
Grants and donalions of general nature which are nol conditional on delivering certain levels of service are
included as part of Granls and Donalions as shown under note 2. Perfomiance relaled grants and donalions
which have conditions for a spe¢ifi¢ outcome are include as Income from Charilable Aclivilies as shown in
Note 3.
Membership fees are credited to income in the year in which they are received. as In practice Ihls repres8nls
a receivable basis.
Income from commissioned communily dasses is recoonised when the dasses are delivered.
1.5 Expenditure
Expenditure is recognised once there is a legal or conslruclive obligatlon lo Iransfer e¢onoml¢ beneflt lo a
third party, il is probable Ihal a transfer of economic benefits will be required in selllemenl, and Ihe amount of
the obligation can be measured reliably.
Expenditure is classified by aclivity. The cosls of ea¢h activity are made up of Ihe lotal of direct costs and
shared costs. including support costs involved in undertaking each aclivily. Oirecl cosls allribulable lo a single
activity are allocated direclly lo that activity. Shared costs which conlribute to more Ilian one activity and
support cosls which are not altiibulable lo a single activity are apportioned between those activllies on a basis
consislenl wilh the use of resources. Cenlral staff costs are allocated on Ihe basis of time spent, and
depreciation charges a￿ allocated on the portion of the asset's use.
1.6 Tangible fixed assets
Tar)gible fixed assets are inilially measured at cost and subsequently measured al cosl or valuation, nel of
depreciation and any impaimenl losses.
Depreciation is recognised so as to wrile off the cost or valuation of assets less Iheir residual valLFes over their
useful lives on the following bases..

1.7 Cash and cash equivalents
Cash and cash equivalents include cash in hand. deposils held al call with banks, other short-lerm liquid
investments with original malurilies of Ihree months or less. and bank oveidrafls. Bank overdrafts are shown
within borrowings in current liabilities.

1.8 Financial instruments
The charity has elected lo apply the provisions of Section 11 'Basic Financial Inslruments, and Section 12
'Olher Financial InstTument5 Issues, of FRS 102 lo all of its financial inslrumenls.
Financial inslrumenls are recognised in the Charit￿$ balance sheet when Ihe charily bacomes party to the
conlraclual provisions of the instrumenl.
Financial assels and liabilities are offsel, with Ihe net amounts presenled in the financial stalements, when
there is 8 legally enforceable right to set off the recognised amounts and there is an intention to settle on a net
basis or to realise the asset and sellle the liabilily simultaneously.
Baslc flnanclal assets
Basic financial assets, which include debtors and cash and bank balances, are initially measured at
transaction price including Iransaclion costs and are subsequently carried al amorlised cost using Ihe effective
interest method unless the arrangement conslilutes a finanung Iransaclion, where Ihe transaction Is
measur8d al the present value of the future receipls discounted at a markel rale of inlerest. Financial assets
classified as receivable within one year are not amortised.
Basic financial liabilities
Basic financial liabilities, including creditors and bank loans are initially recognised at Iransaclion price unless
the arrangement conslilules a financing transaction, where Ihe debt inslrumenl is measured al Ihe presenl
value of Ihe future paymenls discounted at a markel rale of inlerest. Financial liabilities classified a5 payable
within one year are not amortised.
Debt instruments are subsequently carried at amotlised cost, using Ihe effective interest Tale method.
Trade creditors are obligations lo pay for goods or services that have been acquired in the ordinary course of
operations from suppliers. Amounts payable are dassified as current liabilities if payment is due within one
year or less. If not, they are presenled as non-currenl liabililies. Trade creditors are recognised inilially al
transaction price and subsequentty measured al amortised cost using the effective inlerest melhod.
1.9 Employee benefits
The cosl of any unused holiday enlillement is recognised in Ihe period In which the employee's services are
received.
Termination benefils are recognised immedialely as an expense when the charity is demonslrably commilled
to terminate Ihe employment of an employee or to provide termination benefits.
1.10 Retirement benefits
Payments lo defined contribution retirement benefit sthemes ars charged as an expense as Ihey fall due.
Critlcal accounting estimates and Judgements
In the application of the charity's accounting policies, the Irustees are required lo make judgements. estimates
2nd assumptions about the calrying amount of assels and liabililies Ihal are nol readily apparent from olher
sOUr￿s. The eslimales and associaled assumptions are based on historical experien￿ and olher factors that
are considered to be ielevant. Actual results may differ from these estimates.
The eslimales and underlying assumplion5 are reviewed on an ongoing basi5. Revisions lo accounting
estimates are recognised in the period in which the estimate is revised where the revision affects only Ihal
period, or in Ihe period of the revision and future periods where the revision affects both currenl and fulure
periods.

15 Retirement benefit schemes
Defined contribution schemes
The charitable company operales a defined conlribulion pension scheme for all qualifying employees. The
assets of the scheme are held separately from those of the charitable company in an Independenlly
administered fund. The scheme is an auto enrolment stheme 2nd provided by NEST pensions.
