The trustees present thelr annual dlrector5' report and flnanclal statements of the charlty for the
vear ended 311t March 2025 whlch are also prepared to meet the requlrements for a dlre¢tors'
report and accounts for Companle5 Act purposes.
The flnanclal statements comply wlth the Charltles Act 2011, the Companie5 Act 2006, the
Memorandum and Artlcles of Asso¢latlon, and the Accountlng and Reportlng by Charltles.. Statement
of Recommended Practlce appllcable to charltle5 prepailng thelr ac¢ount5 in accordance wlth the
Flnanclal Reportlng Standard appllcable In the UK and Republlc of Ireland IFRS 1021 leffectlve I
January 20191.
ObJectlve5 and actlvltles
The purpose of the charlty15 the provlslon of home support to famllles In need wlthln the Trafford,
Salford and Wlgan areas. Home-start Is a natlonal charlty wlth schemes all over the UK, The charfty
obtalns fundlng from variou5 source5 In order that the varlou5 support groups can be flnanced.
Volunteer workers are the maln sources of thls actlvlty.
The Trustees conflrm that they have referred to the Charlty Comm15s1on's guldance on publlc benefit
when revlewlng the Charlty's alms and oblectlves, In plannln8 future actlvltles, and setting the
poSlcles for the year,
A revlew of our achlevements and perlormance
Durlng the year we supported 226 nèw famllle5 through both our Famlly Support Workers
and our home vlsltlng volunteer5. wlth 21 famllles needlng a second block of support
Of those famllles, 83% had parental mental health Issues, 72% faced soclal Isolatlon and 50%
were loan parent5
The 5alford Infant Feedlhg Peer Support Project has sUPPOrted 361 famllles durlng the Same
perlod
Therefore, throughout the year we have supported a total of 587 famllles, an
unprecedented number for our scheme
Throughout the year we recrulted and tralned 47 new home-vlsltlng volunteers addlngto
the exlstlnE army of volunteers who have been avallable throughout the year.
We continued to expand our 5eNlces Into new areas and the Suc￿sS of the Salford Infant
Feedln8 Peer Support Project Is testament to our endeavours
Fundralslng and corporate Support contlnue5 to be a focus. particularly as competltion for
new grants Is ever Increaslng
Flnanclal revlew
Income increased by 13% In 2024125 to £771,242 from £678,726 In 2023ft4 prlmarlly due to funds
recelved In respect of the 5alford Clty Councll Infant Feedlng Peer Support Project and the Henry
Smlths Improving Llve5 Grant.
80% of our expendlture Is on staffing and a550clated travel and expenses, a srnall reductlon from the
prevlous year. The team and our army of volunteers contlnue to do an amazlng lob, All non-e55entlal
support Costs such as offlce costs are kept to a mlnlmum.

lTrvestment powers and polley
The trustees, havlng regard to the15quldlty requlrements of operatlng the charlty, have kept
available funds In two Interest bearlng deposlt accounts wlth separate provlders.
ReseNes pollcy and Bolnz concern
The total funds of the Charlty have Increased thls yeor to £2J7,827 from £191,383 In the previous
year due to an Increase In restrlcted fuhd5 for proJect5 where the Income has been recelved but the
expendlture wlll be Incurred In the followlng flnanclal year.
The balance held In unrestrlcted reserves as at 31, March 2024 was £99,339 (a small decrease from
the prevlou5 yearl of whlch £12,248 are free reseNes, after allowing for funds tled up In tanglble
tlxed assets and potentlal redundancy costs.
HSTSW place5 great Importance on contlnulty of servlce to Its servlce users. In the event that grant
funding should cease, It would be vltal that funds are avhllable elther to allow alternatlve fundlng to
be found, or In the absence of fundlng, an orderly wlnd-down of the scheme.
The Trustees feel that It Is hlghly desirable to establlsh Reserves that would allow the scheme to
contSnue operatlon for at least 6 months even If fundlng from ex15tlng sources are not renewed.
Unrestrlcted reserves at the current level of £99,339 are deemed sufflclent to cover closure costs
Includlng redundancy costs and pay In Ileu of £84,616.
As the staff team hè5 Increased agaln In Ilne wlth the Increased Income and famllles, It's Important
that unre5trlcted reserves also grow and this wlll be an Important polnt of focus In the comlng
months.
The Charlty's maln source of income Is grant5 and donatlons, The Trustees con51der that It15
approprlate to prepare the accounts on a golng concern basis and, consequently, the accounts do
not Include any adjustment5 that would be necessary If these sources of Income should cease.
Rlsk management
The trustees have conducted a revlew of the major rlsks to whlth the charlty15 exposed, and
5yStems have been establSshed to mltlgate those rlsks.
Plans for Future Perlod5
Plan5 are for contlnued growth to support as many famllles as po55ible across the 3 areas. We
contlnue to bulld relatlonshlps wlth ex15tlng funders and local buslne5ses through thelr Cvrporate
Soclal Aesponslblllty pollcles as well as seekSn8 Out potentlal new lunder5. Our alm Is to malntaln the
Increased Income achleved over the13st 2 year5 and tD Increase awareness of the amazlng work our
team dellveis.

Strurturel 8overnance and m4na8ement
Home-start Trafford was formed In 1999 H5 a voluntary orEanlsatlon whlch now operates as
charltable company strateglcally managed by a Board of Trustee5, all of whom are members of the
local communlty. Home-start Trafford extended Its geo8raphlcal area of reach Into Salford In January
2012 and then 5nto Wigan In January 2019.
Home-StartTrafford, Salford and Wlg4n Ltd Is a company Ilmlted by guarantee governed by Its
Memorandum and Artlcle5 of Assoclatlon dated 25th February 2020. It Is re8lstered as a ¢harlty wlth
the Charlty Commlsslon,
Appolntment of trustees
As set out In the Artlcles of Assoclation trustees are elected annually by the members of the
charltable company attendlng the Annual General meetlng and serve for a perlod of three years.
Trustee Inducilon and tralnlni
Potentlal Trustees are Introduced through recornmendatlon from staff, trustees or funder5. They are
Invlted to attend 3 Board Meetlngs as a guest. The exlstlng trustees and senlor management team
then agree If the trustee Is sultable, at whlch polnt they complete thelr DBS check, references are
obtalned. an appllcatlon completed and all other necessary agreements 5i8ned such as the code of
conduct, they are then appolnted to the role. All trustees are Invlted to attend the volunteer
preparatlon tralnlng course, ongolng tralnlng opportunltles, remaln up to date on safeguardlng
tralnlng and thelr OBS checks.
Organlsatlon
The board oftrustees admln15ter5 the charlty. The board normally meets monthly. A Managlng
Olrector15 appolnted by the trustÈes to manage the day-to-day operatlons of the charlty and is
5UPPOrted by a 5enlor management team.

The trustees (who aTe also the directors of the company for the purposes of company law) are
responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The hustees consider that an audit is not
required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charitie8 Act 201 L (the 2011 Act) and that an
independent cxamination is ll￿ded. The chaTity is requtred by company law to prepare accn)ed
accouttts and l am qualified to undertakc the examination by beillg a qualifi¢d m¢n)ber of The
Association of Ch&itered Certified Accountants,
