## **TRUSTEE ANNUAL REPORT**
## **for the year to 31 December 2025**
The charity is an unincorporated association. It is managed by its trustees who meet formally as a group three times a year and more frequently where required. Trustees take an active role in the management of the charity with frequent visits to the Stevenson Centre from which the charity operates. On a day to day basis the charity’s activities are administered and managed by two part time members of staff and a team of volunteers.
## **REVIEW OF THE YEAR**
During the year Success After Stroke converted into a Charitable Incorporated Organisation with the introduction of a new charity, Success After Stroke (charity registration no. 1211565) which is now fully operational. This means that for now there are two Success After Stroke charities operating while the older charity (this one) winds down and all its activities and assets are transferred to the newer charity.
In March 2025 the Trustees of this, the older charity, and separately its members formally agreed for all the assets and activities of this the older charity to be transferred to the new charity. The accounts reflect the activities of this the older charity for the complete year but since its activities were transferred to the new charity in March there has been very little activity. The charity is still receiving some donations and members subscriptions where people have not yet transferred these regular payments over to the new charity. As of the date of this report we had just one donor and two members who had not yet transferred their subscriptions. We have lost contact with the one regular donor remaining, she has been donating to us for many years ever since her husband, who was a member with us, died some time ago. The two members who have continued to pay their membership subscriptions to the “wrong” charity have been too ill to attend sessions with us. We have contacted them (and their carers) on numerous occasions to ask them to transfer their subscriptions but with banks now choosing to be online only it is no easy task for someone who has suffered a stroke, and may well have other health complications, to come to grips with banking apps – a struggle that is clearly not restricted to just stroke survivors. We will continue to operate the charity until these transfers have been completed, in the meantime we pay over the donations and membership subscriptions received to the new Success After Stroke on a regular basis. In view of the intended cessation of the charity the trustees reserves policy is that any reserves are paid over to the new successor charity.
For the first three months of the year when the charity actively operated we continued to run our twice weekly speech and language therapy sessions, physiotherapy sessions and socialisation sessions (also known as coffee mornings, outings and similar) so members can share experiences and enjoy each others company. We continued with our well-being counselling sessions so members and their carers can work through the mental trauma of a stroke. Our weekly art classes continued with members improving and discovering in some cases their skills in creating wonderful works of art. We also have a weekly singing group which is very popular with members.
In 2024 we increased the amount of speech and language sessions and physiotherapy sessions available to our members and in 2025 we started looking for additional funding for this so that we can continue to provide these much needed services throughout 2025 and for the foreseeable future.

## **FINANCIAL COMMENTARY**
The receipts and payments accounts for the year ended 31 December 2025 were reviewed and approved by the Trustees at their meeting on 24 March 2026 and approved by the Independent Examiner, Mr Loudon Greenlees.
We started the year with £179,000 in reserves and made a small surplus for the year before transfers to the new charity. In the accounts for the year the transfer of assets to the new Success After Stroke is shown as a payment of £182,754 and at year end we had just £142 in cash.
During the year we received just over £10,000 in grants from the National Health Service to help them with research into general aspects of living with a debilitating condition rather than stroke specific research. Significant donations received included £10,000 from the Harebell Trust which is a regular donor to the charity plus £2,500 from Ms Janki Ghelani who fundraised for us in memory of her grandfather who died after suffering several strokes. We are very grateful to them and everyone else who has contributed so generously to the charity. Other income received included membership subscriptions and interest income which were all in line with expectations.

The total expenses paid in the year generally reflect expenditures up until the end of the first quarter of the year and therefore are not easily compared with the previous full year.
- Therapist Fees were £16,910 compared to £47,273 for the whole of the previous year. Payments in 2025 included catch-up payments for hours worked and not previously charged.
- - Other expenditures were in line with previous years.
At the start of the year we held £30,000 in units in the CCLA Charities Investment Fund which were transferred to the new Success After Stroke charity in March 2025.
## **TRUSTEES AND OTHER INFORMATION**
Loudon Greenlees retired as trustee in May 2025, he joined the charity as trustee in 2015 and we are all very grateful for all the work he put into the charity. There were no other changes.

Trustees are recruited from existing volunteers within the charity or from the trustee’s extensive network of social contacts. As the charity is winding down it does not expect to recruit any more trustees.
