TRUSTEES’ REPORT

The Trustees present their Report and Financial Accounts of the Charity for the year ended 31 December 2024. The financial accounts have been prepared generally, in accordance with Accepted Accounting Practice .

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANACE AND MANAGEMENT

Swindon Tamil Association is a Registered Charity No: 1114939. Currently six Trustees were appointed. Governance of the Charity is the responsibility of the Trustees. Appointment of Trustees were made taking into consideration of the individual’s skills, expertise and availability to undertake the Centre’s activities/duties. Trustees step down at the AGM and new Trustees are elected. However, Trustees who step down are eligible for re-election.

Trustees are all volunteers and have been given induction training. Trustees are also encouraged to undertake other training such as Basic First Aid Training, Risk Analysis etc. All Trustees give their time freely and no Trustee remuneration was paid in the period. However, travel expenses are reimbursed.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

Aim – Our Aim is to provide a safe and secure environment to children of all sections of the community, irrespective of their race, colour, sex, religious conviction, disability, sexual orientation, poverty or social and economic circumstances with the object of improving their language skills and learn their heritage and arts and culture

Objectives: To provide social, cultural, recreational and educational forum to children of all sections of the community in Swindon and in particular to children of Tamil Community in Swindon. To provide opportunity for all to volunteer.

PUBLIC BENEFIT

residents and in particular from the Tamil Community in the Borough of Swindon and any other exclusively charitable purposes which are in the opinion of the Trustees beneficial to the peoples of Swindon. The Trustees confirm that they have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit when reviewing the Aims and objectives and in planning future activities.

ACTIVITIES

Currently the following activities are carried out. The activities are held every Sunday in Park South Community Centre and in the New college in Swindon.

Tamil Language Class South Indian Dance, Class South Indian Music Class, South Indian Class Violin Chess Class and Karate Class.

The students appeared for Tamil language examinations in the TEDC Tamil exam board, and most of the children passed with distinction. The students appeared for the dance and music examinations. Additionally, three children successfully completed their Cambridge GCSE Tamil exams.

The Association activities are managed entirely by volunteers and without their support STA cannot be run. We provide training and other incentives for the volunteers and the Trustees acknowledge their contribution

EVENTS

We organised the following events during the year.

Thai Pongal Day, Tamil New Year Day, Navaratri , Deepavali and Christmas celebrations which were attended by a large number of members/ families/ other community leaders.

FINANCIAL STATEMENT

charging a membership fees to the members. The Expenditure for the same period is £50818.46 Main expenditure is for venue hire, expenses for teachers & volunteers. Full details are given the Year End Accounts posted separately.

Financial Control & Reserve’s Policy – Financial Control & Reserves Policy was reviewed and amended.
