Chair’s Annual Report 2024
After some difficult years during Covid our skiing sessions and activities fully returned to business as normal. Whilst we lost some regular members from before the pandemic we have welcomed new families and volunteers as well as forging new relationships with members of the North Wales disability ski group.
We have held a successful residential weekend in Llangrannog during the summer of 2023 which was heavily subsidised for members. We also started intense planning for a return to La Plagne for Easter 2024. The group left the UK and started the journey to the Alps on 29th March 2024 to enjoy a full week skiing in some of the best Easter conditions we have seen as a group.
After an extremely challenging few years for fund raising we were in a position to offer this as a subsidised trip (instead of a fully funded trip as in previous years). We are very grateful for the fundraising efforts of everyone during the year that made the La Plagne trip, the Llangrannog weekend and the regular monthly sessions possible.
I would like to extend my thanks to Leanne for keeping the charity going during her many years in charge before she stepped down at the last AGM and helping the smooth transition to my first year as chair of Ice Cool Kids.
The committee meets on a regular basis to plan further activities, arrange continued fundraising, and coordinating grant applications whilst ensuring the safe and effective day to day running of the charity takes place. If anyone would like to join the committee to help in these activities you will be very welcome. We are always looking forward to the next fundraising activity, the next residential weekend in Llangrannog or our business as normal monthly ski sessions. We will need to update and even replace some of our ski equipment as regular use is beginning to take its toll on some of the equipment. Sit skis are not cheap and will have a typical cost of around £10k for each new sit-ski.
We have enjoyed additional financial support from the Rotary Club for winter 2023. (We have even greater support for winter 2024 and would encourage anyone who has not yet bought raffle tickets for to do so (every £1 spent is match funded for our funds)).
I would like to extend my thanks to the many volunteers who make our activities possible, both on and off the slope. I also want to extend special thanks to Chris and Julie for their efforts and hard work in making the trip to La Plagne another successful holiday for those who attended, as well as their role in making sure the charity continues provide safe and effective sessions for all members.

Treasurer’s Annual Report 2024
Our opening bank balance at the beginning of April 2023 was £72,127.88 and the closing balance at the beginning of April 2024 was £36,116.85. A full breakdown of all our finances from Roger Byers & Co Ltd. Chartered Accountants is attached to this report.
We continue to pay an annual fee of £200 to be affiliated to Snowsport Wales and Annual Membership to Ice Cool Kids continues to be paid at £25 per family and £20 for individuals. There are currently 25 families in membership. Ski sessions in Pembrey cost £8 per member for this financial year.
A Llangrannog trip was possible this year, and several families enjoyed skiing and socialising at the beginning of June 2023. At the beginning of this financial year, a final decision was made to organise a trip to La Plagne in 2024 and most of the year was spend fundraising and planning the trip. We are particularly grateful to the sub-committee members, who worked extremely hard to organise such a complex trip.
Fundraising this year included curry nights in October (raising £390) and January (raising £343) at Zafran Indian Restaurant, organised by Martin Whatty and a sponsored walk by Lowri Fisher on Boxing Day 2023, raising £600. Gaynor Clifford once again organised the 2023 Christmas Raffle with Geoff Lewis in Swansea Rotary Club, raising over £900. This included a personal donation from Geoff, for which we are very grateful. A social event took place in Briton Ferry Rugby Club in February 2024, organised by John Clifford, raising £987. Thank you to all those who attended the various fundraising events. Skiers took part in ‘Ski down Everest’ Crowdfunder in the February and March sessions, raising £402. Mark Pursglove raised over £731 completing his Snowdon Challenge in March. Members also made various individual donations.
All of this, alongside fundraising events and donations over several years culminated in a fantastic trip in March/April 2024 and allows the monthly sessions in Pembrey to continue for the foreseeable future.
