**FOPC ANNUAL REPORT FOR 2021**

The Friends of Puttenham Church was established on 6 December 2005 and registered with the Charity Commission a year later with its purpose being:

_“ to seek to ensure the preservation of the building and curtilage of St.John the Baptist Church,Puttenham for the benefit of the public as a building of historic and architectural importance by raising funds for the execution of capital projects designed to improve its amenity and to advance the education of the public as to the importance of maintaining the building’s heritage.”_

The Covid -19 pandemic obviously meant that FOPC activities in 2021 were restricted. However, there were two distinct highlights in November: (1) Thanks to the generosity of Sarah Melville and family, an unforgettable Recital & Reception was held in the church raising £1,600 and (2) a generous donation of £1000 was received from the Puttenham Bonfire Committee, following the most successful village bonfire ever held.

Towards the end of the year,FOPC also received an extremely generous legacy from the estate of Molly Avenell - a long-term member of the church choir who lived all her life in the village. The trustees are currently exploring with the church how best to carry out important projects in and around the church building - such as the restoration of the rare and historic 15th century “lowside window” on the south side of the chancel (see frontispiece photo). It is to be hoped that a way may be found to apply Molly’s legacy towards the funding of some of these projects and for her name to be commemorated in the church building - perhaps in a comparable way to that of her life-long friend Jean Nichols, whose equally generous FOPC legacy helped fund the building of the Amenities Annex in 2006.

Since last year’s AGM, it is with sadness that we record the loss of two longserving trustees - Evelyn Gaff and Penny Privett whose contribution to FOPC over recent years was substantial. We are also much indebted to Sarah Melville who retired earlier this year as a trustee. They will all be missed and we hope to make a start trying to replace them at this year’s AGM. If any member would like to join us as a trustee, do please let one of us know.

We now look forward to seeing as many members as possible at this year’s AGM that will be held in the Marwick Hall on Friday 23rd September at 7 pm to be followed by a reception. In order that the catering and other arrangements can be made for the meeting, please let Liz Crosby know as soon as you can if

you are planning to attend - _elizabeth@crosbybuilding.co.uk_
