trained the_Sisters of St Francis_in the art of
baking and understanding the equipment.
We handed the Bakery to the Sisters and
receive their yearly reports.

We are pleased to report that the social
impact, which can be measured in many

utilities - water and electricity for example -
ensures increasing independence and
empowerment.
We continue to provide an emergency
contingency fund which has proved helpful
in times of personal and group need.

The daughter of the founders (and current
Director) and her husband visited Ifakara
bakery and all the accounts which receive
the “Free Bread.” The population is
increasing, currently at 250,000, and so is
the need.
Discussions were held to add the
emergency ward at the hospital to the Free
Bread fund.
An agreement for an annual donation of
sugar to the bakery from the local sugar
refinery is in process.
A sanitation project was completed for the
Nazareth Leprosy Centre and also funding
of an emergency food provision due to flood
damage to their own food supply.
**Flooding**
Ifakara washit by devastating flooding| in May 2024. The effects of this disaster reached every corner of their lives. Homes were damaged or destroyed, diseases more prevalent, and schools closed, disrupting the education of children who depend on school not just for learning, but also for stability and daily meals from the Free Bread Fund. Businesses struggled to re-open, and work ers faced uncertainty. The impact on crops was especially concerning. Floodwater ravaged local farms, leaving fields waterlogged and crops spoiled. For a community that relies on these harvests to feed families and sustain the local economy, this was a major blow. Yet, the full weight of the disaster has only been felt later in the year, with food shortages from spoiled crops and reduced yields. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the Franciscan Sisters in the community the Free Bread Fund provided children and adults with even more of a lifeline. We are proud of our emergency appeal: thanks to the wonderful support of our community who rallied around, we raised over £10,000 to support this immediate crisis. **Supplies of free bread** Our priority in 2024 was ensuring the adequate provision of bread through The Free Bread Fund to the existing accounts we support. We funded 146,616 loaves of bread during 2024 and over 80% of these reached children below the age of 7 at Kindergartens and Nursery schools. Free bread continues to be supplied to an orphanage, kindergartens and day cares as well hospital in-patients and leprosy centre residents. It is a lifeline for many and has helped continue to maintain improved school attendance despite the impact of Covid. The free bread provided for hospital wards goes specifically to malnourished children, neonates and TB patients and for residents and day patients at the Nazareti Leprosy Centre. **Bee Keeping Project Expansion** St Theresa community group is located in the rural parish of Mahutanga, one of the poorest areas in the diocese of Ifakara. The group supports vulnerable local women, in particular those living with HIV/AIDS, widows and young divorced mothers; offering them needed economic opportunities, education and social support. Income generating activities include farming land, pigs and poultry. The honey, beeswax and candle products sold provide an income for the marginalised women who in turn organise and conduct seminars on environmental conservation, HIV/AIDS and gender issues in the community. This year IBP supported them with the purchase of a small piece of land to build a honey processing unit on. **Communication** Improvements continued to keep the many supporters of the charity updated. These included to the website, and via the mass mailing of a Christmas card which included the annual newsletter. Outreach has resulted in a subsequent increase in individual donations. **Expanding the Fundraising Team** A contract with an professional fundraising company continued in 2024. CSR Together has brought a wide range of skills and experience to the charity. As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”). I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. ## **Independent examiner's statement** I have completed my examination.
