As an overview the fields remain in excellent condition and we are delighted how well used they are and for such a wide range of activities. Once again, the main efforts this year have been focussed on progressing the Pump Track project; improving the Orchard and the Allotments. General Maintenance Preparatory work has commenced in reducing the brambles on the west side of the field to allow that hedgerow to be laid next winter. A "Dead Hedgerow" has been constructed outside the groundsman's store as an additional habitat for all insects and wildlife. Dead hedges are great for the environment and are a means of using the brash generated by hedge laying rather than burning IL Registered Charity No: 11145 l4
WIC,KWAR PLAYING FIFLDS ASSOCIATION Pum Track We are delighted to say that we have eventually received planning perniission for the Pump Track. This has been a very onerous pmcess but we have got there. Having planning permission has allowed us to sign the contract for construction by Clark & Kent and we are awaiting final confirmation of a start date Orchard With assistance from the Forest of Avon trust and the efforts of volunteers we have made signifiGqnt improvements in the orchard this year and conducted several activities: We have hosted AHS school pupils on their nature day. Ilosted two scything days. Hosted two pruning sessions. Areas in the orchard were scarified and wild flowers were planted. Primroses have been relocated from the existing BMX Trnck. Two new orchard boards have been designed, manufactured, and installed. A well-attended, wassailing event held in January 46 members of Wickwar Brownies attended, scratted apples, pressed the pulp and made their own fresh apple juice. WICKWAR PLAYINC. FIF,LD4i A,(iSOCIATION Wickwar Allotments Association are maintaining the allotments in an excellent condition and the plots remain fully subscribed. The waiting list for plots is currently close to 20 applicants. The initial stage of the bedge laying conducted last year was extremely successful and the hedgerow is tbriving. The last section from the Allotments gate towards Hill House was laid this year and is doing well. The Apiary is doing well and Ann & Nathan Ludkin currently have four hives in use. Wickwar Wanderers FC The pitches remain in good condition. There is a positive relationship with the football club committee and we would like to thank them for their support. Wickwar Games The 13 annual Wickwar Games was held in July. It was a very special day and enjoyed by everyone who attended and / or entered the competitions. The Trustees would once again like to thank the very many organisations and individuals whose funding, support and expertise have allowed the fields to prosper. A few examples of the unheralded goodwill we receive is: l. South Gloucestershire Council - Sl 06 funding. 2. Gloucestershire Playing Fields Association. 3. Mark Forsyth and Dave Cridge have worked tirelessly to lay the allotment hedge, clear the brambles and lay the dead hedge. It is these contributions make such a difference to the running of the fields and is very much appreciated.
