ANNUAL REPORT OF TRUSTEES OFTHE WORLD SPEEDWAY RIDERS ASSOCIATION FOR 2023 We arranged more events than usual during 2023, thus enabling us to bring together more former riders and fans of Speedway, helping them to relive their past glories and memories in an amiable atmosphere. For example 60 people gathered at High Beech, the site of the first Speedway meeting in 1928 and were enthralled by a talk on the history of Speedwav. The annual Celebration of Speedway attracted 700 visitors and we also put on a day devoted to one of the old great clubs, Hackney. These events inform the wider public about the history of Speedway and take place next to the Speedway museum. We gave more grants than before and continue to make monetary gifts to disabled members. We also facilitate their attendance at our events, where necessary. In effect we used some of the surplus from the previous year on these worthy causes and we expect to continue in this vein Expenses were kept under control and relate mainly to printing and postage of the quarterly magazine, the website, museum maintenance and rent. We ended the year with a bank balance of £47,000 which we regard as more than sufficient to see us through a 12 month period even if income were to be dramatically reduced.
