
## **PORT Trustees Report for Year end 31.03.22** 

During this account year PORT has sourced and Funded two Research projects, both having passed scrutiny of the Medical Peer advisory panel of Bowel Research UK (BRUK). 

The BRUK panel supports PORT to ensure only the best research with the most potential to provide positive outcomes are funded. 

The research projects PORT funded this year are geared towards both Adult and Paediatric sufferers. 

## Research 1 Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust. 

“The Effectiveness of an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) based psychological intervention on reducing psychological distress in those diagnosed with Gastro-Intestinal Dysmotility” 

Lead applicant, Dr Katherine Twist Clinical psychologist/Principal Investigator,

This research to be conducted by Dr Katherine Twist and her team is the first time that PORT has funded research aimed at Patient’s mental health instead of Physical health. 

Patients that suffer from this cruel illness can develop Mental health issues that then can impact on their wellbeing. 

PORT is very happy to be funding this innovative research.

Great Ormond Street Hospital is the main Paediatric centre in the UK for children suffering with Paediatric Intestinal Pseudo Obstruction and Dysmotility, (PIPO/Dysmotility). 

PORT is pleased to have formed important links to GOSH and to be funding this research project for them.

This booklet has been welcomed by our families and GOSH. The feedback has been very positive and we are proud to have produced such an informative booklet.

Our private Facebook members page continues to grow, it is a friendly, informative group where families can converse freely, build up relationships with one another which leads to the families feeling less isolated. This is of paramount importance to help with mental wellbeing.

Like many Charities Covid has impacted on fundraising this year.

Managernent and governance
The tnjst deed stipulated the first Trustees, who continue 10 Serve.
There must be at least three Truslees. Were there a requirement lor new frustees. these would
be identified and appointed by the remaining Trustees. In selectinE individuals for appoiiitment 35
TrLlStee5, Ihe Trustees must have re8ard to the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the
effective administration of the Trust.
A new Trustee will be indLlCted into the TrLtst by the existing Trustee5. Thi5 would involvp.
awarenes5 of the Trustee's responsibiliEies. the governing documeftt. èdminisirarive procedures
and the history ol the charity. A new Trustee would receive 3 copy ol the131est annual report and
accounts.
The TriJstee5 annually review the risks that the charity faie5. To date these have mainly related to
safeguarding the charity's reserves and have been satlsfied by ensuring funds are held on deposit
with an established bank_
