Micklands Pre-School Annual General Meeting Statement Dated 22 February 2022
’ – 1. Chairperson s Report Given by Colin Halliday
First and foremost, a massive thank you to the staff team for all the hard work they have been doing in making sure that our setting has continued to remain open safely for all of our children. They really are the spirit of our little community, and we cannot show our appreciation to each of them enough.
Our next big project will be to develop our outdoor area over the summer holidays this year. We are looking at purchasing a new larger all-weather canopy to replace the existing one and wooden playhouse with some additional storage around the garden, enabling the children to select their own resources outside.
I very much welcome any parents that would like to help to reach out to the team or me, we would love to get you involved.
’ – 2. Supervisor s Report Given by Cherry Grayston
As many of you are aware, I joined Micklands Pre-School in September 2021 as the new manager, taking over from Tania who had been acting manager. I am very fortunate to have inherited a very experienced team, who all have their own areas of expertise and support me in my role.
This academic year has posed a few challenges with Covid causing illness to both staff and children. This is something we haven’t had to deal with before and the ever-changing guidelines haven’t helped! Up until recently, the pre-school has not had to close! Unfortunately, due to staff to child ratios, we have had to do so for one afternoon. We really appreciate the parents support during this really difficult time. The children have been very resilient, returning to pre-school as if nothing has happened.
This year has seen some significant changes to our curriculum with the revised EYFS. This has meant that the staff are able to spend more time with the children and focus on individual children’s needs and interests. This then contributes towards our planning and observations. We have rearranged the preschool resources, enabling the children to self-select and take control of their own learning. We have been listening to and observing the children closely and have been purchasing new resources to extend their learning. The staff work hard to create a safe and nurturing environment to learn. We offer a continuous provision, where the children can free flow from inside to outside independently, accessing the same learning opportunities in either area.
Our next big project will be to develop our outdoor area. We are looking at purchasing a new large canopy and wooden playhouse with some additional storage around the garden, enabling the children to select their own resources outside. We would very much appreciate some help and suggestions with this.

The staff team have recently undertaken training with regards to speech and language development and SEN, as well as Jayne and Jenna attending a course with Anna Ephgrave on planning in the moment. We will be working on speech and language with some children that may need some additional support.
We very much appreciate the support and feedback from the parents and carers.
– 3. Report for Financial Year 2020/ 2021 Prepared by Laura Burnett
This report is for our last completed Financial Year which was from 1 April 2020 – 31 March 2021. The Income & Expenditure Report is attached to this statement and, as is the case every year, this has been independently checked and signed off our accountants, Haines & Co.
We had a combined “surplus” in our Main and Savings Accounts of £121,800.07 on 31 March 2021. Whilst this is a decrease on the previous year’s figure of £157.730, I need to highlight that we spent £81,381 on the full internal refurbishment of the pre-school building during Summer 2020. Taking both is and the pandemic into account, the “surplus” of £121,800.07 on 31 March 2021 is a great achievement.
It is a requirement to briefly explain the Income & Expenditure Report for our Year End 31 March 2021. The balance brought forward for our Main Barclays Bank Community Account from the previous Financial Year was £25,611.33. Our Income for the period was £151,837.10 and our Expenditure was £187,924.29. With the transfer to and from the Savings Account, this gives a Cash Book Balance in our Main Account on 31 March 2021 of £30,943.77. This agrees with the Barclays Bank Community Account Statement for this period.
Turning now to our Barclays Bank Savings Account, this had a balance of brought forward of £132,118.94. With interest earned and monies transferred to and from the Community Account, the balance for this account was £90,856.30 on 31 March 2020. This agrees with the Barclays Bank Savings Account Statement for this period.
We continue to keep a working amount in our current account with the rest being held in our savings account in accordance with our Reserves Policy. This is to act as a buffer against any drop in our income, to cover six months’ running costs of the pre-school and to cover any other unexpected major expenditure. The Committee has earmarked an amount in our Savings Account as a growing fund for the cost of an outdoor project which includes replacing and extending the existing all-weather canopy and for new permanent shade sails.
We are now approaching the end of the financial year 2021/ 2022 and I can confirm our current financial position remains very healthy despite the extraordinary challenges of the last year.

5. Questions from Parents
A parent asked whether we intended to have parent volunteers in pre-school again. Cherry confirmed that once we are through this latest phase of Covid, we will reintroduce the ‘Parent Helper Rota’.
If any parents have any other questions or queries they wish to raise about this AGM statement or how the pre-school is run, please email them though to admin@micklandspreschool.co.uk and we will respond as soon as possible.
