HORN OF AFRICA DISABILITY AND ELDERLY ASSOCIATION (HADEA) ANNUAL REPORT 2020-2021

## HADEA

What a year it has been! Covid-19 came to our lives here in the UK early 2020 and by March 2020, our world the way we knew it was turned upside-down.

The loss to our communities has been immense, a reflection of how BAME communities continue to face unequal treatment. HADEA as an organisation fights the injustices and inequalities experienced by marginalised communities on a daily basis. The loss of 19 beneficiaries to Covid19 has brought to perspective the effect the pandemic is having on our society as a whole.

The pandemic called for a different way of working and supporting our communities. We are at our best when, the chips are down and when the powers that be drag their feet when it comes to providing appropriate interventional support to our users and those like them.

Demand for support from vulnerable residents like previous years has been on the rise. The pandemic complicated the situation so much so that, HADEA had to adapt how it delivered its support to vulnerable users.

## CHAIRMAN'S REPORT

HADEA strengthened its partnerships while working with new partners to deliver emergency and crisis support to vulnerable residents. Our work saw the organisation deliver emergency food to organising funerals for families that have lost loved ones to the pandemic.

While everyone is talking about recovering from the pandemic, we are still in crisis mode. Our users have always faced sustained crisis before the pandemic started and we are just continuing our efforts to impact and change their lives for the better. Our resolve is one that is positive and we are looking forward to work harder and reach our to more residents that will require our assistance.

I would like to thank our staff, volunteers and all our partners for their unwavering support, dedication and hard work.

Prof. Hussein Ibrahim - HADEA CHAIR
