To support and motivate young people aged 7-19 in all branches of the
arts in Teignbridge, South Devon, especially those lacking the financial
means, to pursue their artistic ambitions.

charity set out in its
governing document

activities undertaken for the
public benefit in relation to
these objects (include within
this section the statutory
declaration that trustees have
had regard to the guidance

Commission on public
benefit)
Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)
OPPORTUNITIES
increasingly, schools are being urged to develop creative
approaches to the curriculum and the arts are destined to
play an increased role in developing the talents of young
people
the Covid-19 pandemic has shone a bright light on just
how important the arts are to young people and their well-
being
young people's enthusiasm for the arts is evergreen and tv
programmes such as The X Factor and Strictly Come
Dancing are testimony to the wide-spread appeal of the
Arts
students are studying the arts and media in increasing
numbers at university, fed not least by inspired teaching in
their schools and the UK is a world leader in the creative
industries
being locally-based, there is a well of goodwill that the
Foundation continues to draw upon
success breeds success and each successful venture
increases the profile and strengthens the Foundation's
credibility as an organization that can deliver for young
people
there are opportunities to engage further Patrons and
establish a sponsorship programme for the Foundation
Helen Foundation Awards in schools.
Grants to schools to engage professional artists to work with young
people.
You may choose to include
further statements, where
relevant, about:
policy on grantmaking;
policy programme related
investment;
contribution made by
volunteers.
THREATS
Covid-19 still casts its shadow over schools, as they struggle to
balance getting the children up-to-speed with STEM subjects that
tends to push the Arts into the background
sustaining funding for the charity's work after a bumper year
(2021) that celebrated Helen's 40th birthday will be a great
challenge and we need to be mindful of the altered national
economic circumstances in which charities operate
for this reason, a sustainable investment by the charity helps to
generate income year on year for the charity
curriculum and budgetary pressures in schools means reduced
arts activity and fewer opportunities for young people participating
in the arts
the work of the Foundation falls ve

the Trustees to carry out and is therefore vulnerable to the
availability of their time and energy
we are not large enough to consider employing staff so will need
to remain realistic about our achievable goals
all the work of the Foundation is carried out by volunteers and is
therefore limited by their availability
REVISION TO SCOPE OF CHARITY'S WORK
Trustees decided at a meeting in November 2022 that the charity should
focus exclusively on schools. This is in order to concentrate resources on
where we see the greatest need, considering the pressures that schools
are under to maintain and develop their arts curriculum.
The effect of this is to suspend for the foreseeable future disbursements
for new bursaries and also for contributions to arts projects involving
young people but not within schools. Exisiting bursaries will continue as
long as the young person needs them and continues to meet the financial
criteria.

Financial review
Brief statement of the
charity's policy on reserves
RESERVES POLICY
It is a fundamental principle of the Foundation that its core work
should be able to continue despite the inevitable ebb and flow of
annual fund raising.
It has therefore been agreed by the Trustees that a minimum of
£120,000 should be held in secure funds to generate an annual
income of approximately £4000. These funds are invested in a
bank account and/or a spread of sustainable investments
approved by the Trustees.
Details of any funds materially
in deficit
