Trustees' Annual Report For the year ended 31 March 2023
The Trustees present their annual report together with the financial statements for the 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2023.
Objects and Activities
The Trustees shall apply the income and may, at their discretion, apply the whole or any part of the capital of any monies raised to further such purposes as are charitable under the laws of England and Wales for the benefit of those in impoverished areas of India ('the area of benefit') as the Trustees see fit in particular but not exclusively by supporting projects that advance education, promote good health and those undertaken in the interests of social welfare with the object of improving the condition of life in such areas.
This is achieved by providing grants to the organisation noted as PEOPLE FIRST EDUCATIONAL CHARITABLE TRUST (PFECT); a charity registered in India under Indian Trust Law Number 9062, which provides Education and Training for children and women in BODHGAYA, the BIHAR area of India.
The Trustees have given due consideration to the guidance published by the charity commission relating to public benefit.
Structure and Governance
The unincorporated charity is constituted under a Trust Deed dated 24 September 2005 as amended by deed of variation dated 11 April 2006. The charity was registered on the 20 April 2006.
The charity also uses the working names People First and PFI.
Trustees are recruited, when required, through personal contacts known by the existing Trustees.

Trustees' Annual Report (continued) For the year ended 31 March 2023
Achievements and Performance
We are pleased to report that, thanks to the excellent support we continue to receive from our loyal donors, we have once again been able to fulfil our commitment to supporting PFECT in India at a maintained level.
People First International (PFI) is the principal financial supporter of PFECT, after the State support for Child Protection activities.
The Covid Pandemic has presented numerous challenges to the team in India, to which they have responded magnificently. New partnerships have been forged, including assisting UNICEF. These will stand PFEECT in good stead going forward.
The Trustees have mostly “met “ electronically over this period
The Trustees have again reviewed all relevant policies and are satisfied that they meet the Trustees obligations.
We face additional challenges going forward, following the winding up of Health for All, who supported the Health Programme delivered by PFECT. We will do our best to provide at least some resource to allow this programme to continue.
Thank you again to all our supporters who help to ensure the valuable work undertaken by PFECT can continue.
Financial Review
During the year payments exceeded receipts by £26,219 resulting in a cash balance at the year end of £49,657.
The trustees aim to pay out the maximum grants each year based on donations received whilst maintaining reserves that can be deployed at short notice where the need arises.
