The trustees present their report and financial statements for the year ended 5 April 2023. Advantage has been taken of the exemption to prepare accruals accounts for smaller charities and Receipts and Payments Accounts have been prepared as set out on pages 4 to 6.

Objectives and activities

The objects of the charity, as set out in the Trust Deed, are to apply the income of the charity to such purposes as shall be exclusively charitable as the trustees in their absolute discretion think fit.

The trustees further these objects by awarding grants to other registered charities.

The Trustees take due consideration of the public benefit guidance issued by the Charity Commission when identifying beneficiaries and awarding grants.

Financial Review

During the year the charity received a total of £25,667 (2022: £1,721), expended £170,000 (2022: £110,030) and invested £2,700,000 (2022: £nil).

The trustees aim to maintain sufficient free reserves to enable them to make disbursements when circumstances warrant.

At 5 April 2023 this amounted to £532,979 (2022: £3,377,312)

Structure, governance and management

The charity is unincorporated and governed by a Trust Deed dated 10 February 2006. The charity was registered with the Charity Commission on 5 April 2006.

New trustees are appointed by the existing trustees, as required.

Trustees are required to disclose all relevant interests, register them, and withdraw from decisions where a conflict of interest arises.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the Receipts and Payments accounts of The 9684 Trust (charity no: 1113620) for the year ended 5 April 2023 which are set out on pages 4 to 6.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the Charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiner’s statement

I have completed my examination.

I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or

  2. the accounts do not accord with those records

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
