The Trustees, who are also Directors of Barking and Dagenham Youth Dance Limited (BDYD), present their
report and tlie independently exaiiiiiied fIn￿]cIal statements of the charitable Company for the year ended 31 July
2024. Tlie statutory inforination is shown on page l.
The financial statements Iiave been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities:
Statement of Recommeiided Practice (SORP) applicable to cliarities preparing their accounts in accordance with
the Financial Reporting Standards applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102 - effective l January
2019), (Charities SORP - FRS 102) and the Companies Act 2006.
Status
Tlie Conipany, number 05521243, is limited by guarantee and has charitable status. The Charity registration
nuniber is 1113618. It has a Memorandum and Articles of Association as its governing document.
Aims and Ob'ects
The principal objects of tlie charity are:
To maiiitain, improve and advance the education of the public in the arts generally, and in particular by
the promotion and production of educational dance/drama and other aesthetic arts especially those
activities which seek to Iiiake the arts relevant to the community.
To provide perforn]ance opportunities for underprivileged young people irrespective of their colour, sex,
religion, creed etc. thus enabling them to seek and obtain useful skills and occupation in later life.
In the interest of social welfare, to provide or assist in the provision of facilities for recreation or other
leisure time occupation with the object of improving the condition of life of the persons for whom such
facilities are primarily intended by reason of their youth, age, infirn]ity, povety or social and economic
circumstances.

BDYD'S services primarily support disadvantaged young people, but also directly benefit the wider local
community, including children, adults and older people. We work with a diverse group of people including
women, black and ethnically diverse communities, those tackling obesity, people with disabilities, those at risk of
teenage pregnancy, young offenders, those at risk of substance and alcohol misuse, the underachieving, those
who are NEET and those who find mainstream education challenging.
We promote equal opportunities, and promote and celebrate diversity by making our activities fully accessible
and inclusive and by welcoming and respecting all participants, staff and volunteers. BDYD tackles Iinfair
discrimination and breaks down barriers for people (in particular groups such as black and ethnically diverse
communities, disabled people, gay men/lesbians/bisexuals, transgender people and people from different
religious and faith backgrounds) by listening to what they tell us they need to succeed, and working to provide it.

individual and group diversity, encouraging audience/community participation, and widen the
opportunities for the attendees.
We offer our participants an equal platforn] to succeed in life, promote better education and learning for
all, make sure that they feel valued, and are able to contribute to society, rather than being isolated. We
provide a service that leads to the ability and self-belief to achieve success and ultimately understand the
user's capabilities, with the aim to promote community cohesion.
Our workshops and showcase are created fi'om skill-building activities and hands-on tasks, ensuring our
users access effective and affirmative experiences. We produce a showcase that celebrates our users,
achievements, as Ivell as engage tliem in a project that celebrates their achievements.
We enibrace and celebrate different cultures, as our intentions are to enlighten, empower and release
learning potential, highlighting tlie iniportance of education and eventually employment that can lead to
regenerating the local community.
Activities:
The priiicipal activities of the charity are as follows:
Saturday dance workshops for children, young people, and adults. We currently work with 250 local
people each Saturday.
Our award-winning Bar-Ham Leaders youth leadership programme. This youth-led project encourages
young people to develop and build on their skills and qualities to take the lead in making positive change
as individuals, for the good of our organisation, and for the wider community. We recognise that these are
the community leaders of the future. Our aim with Bar-Ham Leaders is to support young people to create
positive change in their lives and communities on the issues that matter to them.
Youth Dance Instructors Course for young people aged 13-19. This course offers weekly training for
teenagers to learn the skills to teach a dance class for grassroots organisations and is accredited by NCFE.
Tluough our Associate membership at LBBD Community Hub John Smith House, BDYD offers
wraparound provision including counselling, debt and food povety advice and signposting as well as pop
up youth provision such as Sports Days, residentials and NHS recognised Youth Clinics.
Public Benefit:
In planning our activities for the year, we kept in mind the Charity Commission's guideline on public benefit at
our trustees, meetings by researching the local community service gaps in Barking and Dagenham paying
particular attention to youth services and opportunities in the arts.
BDYD Ltd provides dance and arts projects, events and activities for children, young people and adults. We offer
perforn]ance opportunities, training In dance career development and leadership programmes. Although we
encourage our beneficiaries to opt for a donation of £3, during their weekly dance activity, those Iinable to pay
are not turned away and there are no restrictions to our services.
We are confident that our activities continue to fulfil the public benefit requirement of the Charity Act.

In the year 2023/2024 we engaged willi 5000 local people by providing them with educatioiial dance and fitness
sessions, youth led advocacy and leadership programmes as well mentorship projects that promoted leariiiIig for
all.

Despite another challenging year with funding cuts to local government and the impact of social economic
factors affecting local families and young people, BDYD provided a busy and popular programme of arts, dance,
culture workshops, events and activities. We targeted the hard to reach and people who are socially excluded, and
promoted mental and physical wellbeing. We successfully gained NCFE accreditation for our Youth Dance
Leaders programme, opening up access to an accredited Level 2 vocational qualification for young people in
Barking and Dagenham.
BDYD collaborated in a variety of partnership work through 2023/2024:
continued working with the Barking Sports for Change funded by Mayor of London to increase our work
in engaging gil.ls into physical activity.
continued to award young people through our ongoing Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme.
developed our Snack Chat programme, into Talking Circles. A safe space for young people to chat, enjoy

I"he Charity had total income for the year was £207,746 and total expenditure was £142,644. The net Income was
£65,102.
Risk Assessment and Reserves Polic
The tnistees have reviewed the risks faced by the charity and have put in place systems to mitigate those risks.
The main risk is with continued funding and the charity is actively making applications for funding for its
projects. The trustees have reviewed the needs of the charity and as there is currently no property to deal with on
a cessation the reserves are to be set at a level which would allow for the continuation of the sessions for which
they are committed. This amounts to approximately 20 % of annual turnover at any given point. Trustees
therefore aim to increase the charity's unrestricted reserves to this 20 % level.

onsibilities
Company law requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and
fair view of the state of the affairs of the charitable company as at the balance sheet date and of its incoming
resources and application of resources, including income and expenditure, for the financial year. In preparing
those financial statements, the trustees should follow best practice and:
select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent. and
prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to assume that the
company will continue on that basis
The trustees is responsible for maintaining proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable
accuracy at any time the financial position of the charitable company and to enable them to ensure that the
financial statements comply with the Companies Act 2006. The trustees are also responsible for safeguardino
the assets of the charitable company and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of
fraud and other irregularities.
The trustees, who are directors for the purpose of company law and trustees for the purpose of cliarity law,
who served during the year and up to the date of this report, in the case of each trustee:
so far as the trustees is aware, there is no relevant audit inforn]ation of which the compcinv's auditors are
unaw￿"e; and
as the directors of the company, we have taken all the steps that we oiight to have taken iii order to make
ourselves aware of any relevant audit infonnation and to establish that the charity's aucjitors are aware of
that infom]ation.

An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by tlie cliarity and a comparison of the
accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in
the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures
undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion
is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair view, and the report is limited to those matters
set out in the statement beloiv.
Independent Examiner's Statement:
In coiinection with my examination, no material matters have come to my attention which gives me cause to
believe tliat in, any material respect:
accounting records were not kept in accordance Ivith section 386 of the Companies Act 2006; or
the accounts do not accord with such records: or
tlie accounts do not comply with relevant accounting requirements under section 396 of the

Ib. Preparation of tlie accounts on a going concern basis
Barkin￿ and Da￿enhaM Youth Dance Liniited has reported a Net Income of £65,087 for the year.
The trustees are of the view tliat the immediate future of the Trust for the next 12 to 18 months
is secure and that on this basis the charity is a going concern.
The uncertain economic outlook and willingness of the trust to donate is a significant area of
uncertainty which the trustees have mitigated by reviewing how the activities of the charity
could be offered should funds reduce. The trustees reinain in regular
contact with funders and the local authory to secure their on-going support.
Ic. Income
Income is recognised when the charity has entitlement to the funds, any perfom]ance conditions
attached to tlie item(s) of income have been met, it is probable that the income will be received
and the aniount can be measured reliably.
Income from government and other grants, whether 'capital' grants or 'revenue' grants, is
recognised when the charity has entitlement to tlie funds, any performance conditions attached
to the grants have been niet, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount
can be measured reliably and is not deferred.Income received in advance of a specified
service is deferred until the criteria for income recognition are met.
Id. Funds
Unrestricted fwids are available to spend on activities that further any of the purposes of
the charily. Designated funds are unrestricted funds of the charity which the trustees have
decided at their discretion to set aside to use for a specific purpose. Restricted funds are
donations or Ljrants which Ihe donor hasspecified are lo be used solely for paiticular
purposes/areas of the charity's work or for specific projects undertaken by the charity.

Cash at bank and cash in hand includes cash and sliort tern] higlily liquid investments held in a
bank current account.
Ih. Creditors and provisions
Creditors and provisions are recogiiised where the charity has a present obligation resulting
from a past event tliat will probably result in the transfer of funds to a third paty and the
amount due to settle the obligationcan be measured or estimated reliably. Creditors and
provisions are normally recognised at tlieir settlement amount after allowing for any discounts due.
li. Fixed Assets Policy
All assets costing more than £150 are capitalised and valued at historical cost. Depreciation is
charged from the year of acquisition on furniture and equipment on 25 % straight-line basis
over theirestimated useful life.
