the charity as set out in its
governing document
Para 1.17 The object of the charity is to advance the
education of pupils in Gillespie Primary
School in particular by:

Developing effective relationships
between the staff, parents and others
associated with the school.

Engaging in activities or providing

the school and advances the
education of the pupils.

Para 1.17 and
1.19
This was a very successful year for Friends
of Gillespie - the first which we could be said
to be fully back on our feet again after the
impacts of covid on the organisation. We ran
events, and improved the communications
between school, parents and pupils
furthering our first charitable objective. We
ran events and other fundraisers to enable
us to fund forest school, additional music
provision, sports equipment and a number of
school trips.
Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit
Para 1.18 Yes, the trustees have had regard to this
guidance.

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 The main achievements of FoG are:
1.
Bringing parents, teachers and pupils
together across a range of events
over the academic year. This
supports our objective of developing
these relationships. In particular in
2022/23 we rejuvenated the class
representative network, with each
year group leading a bake sale. We
also instigated regular meetings
between teachers and FoG trustees
to ensure that FoG activity was
aligned with teacher priorities.
2.
Funding a range of extracurricular
activities, equipment and learning
materials that the school (and/or
some parents) could not afford
themselves. This helps foster an
inclusive environment for all pupils as
well as broadening the range of
learning opportunities. Funding went
to:

Forest School

Strings Tutor

Budget for each class
(Nur-Y6)

Library supplies

Playground Recycling Bins

Football strips

In-school workshops
(anti-bullying and history off
the page)

School trips

Additional information (optional)

You may choose to include further statements where relevant about:

Performance of fundraising Fundraising in 2022/23 exceeded activities against objectives expectations against objectives set at the set Para 1.41 start of the year.

Investment performance
against objectives
Para 1.41 FOG invests conservatively holding all
assets in cash in a business current account.
Investment returns are therefore nil. Trustees
have agreed to this policy on the basis that
the scale of assets means a low risk and low
governance approach to investment remains
appropriate.

Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of Friends of Gillespie

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Friends of Gillespie (FoG) for the financial year 2022-23 (1 September 2022-31 August 2023).

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity trustees of FOG you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of FoG’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiner’s statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or

  2. the accounts do not accord with those records.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

Signed:
