**Objects:** (4) The objects of the charity are: 1) (a) The provision of housing accommodation for i. persons who are in need and have resided within the area of benefit for not less than three years preceding the time of appointment; andii. persons who are in need and who currently have or have had an established connection within the area of benefit, for not less than three years;  Provided that in the exercise of their powers the trustees shall regard any persons falling within the category specified in 1)(a)i. as having priority over any persons falling within the category specified in 1)(a)ii.; and (b) Such charitable purposes for the benefit of the residents of the almshouses as the trustees decide. For the purposes of this clause, in the event that the trustees in their absolute discretion conclude that no appropriate person may be found who falls within either 1)(a) i. or ii. above, they may extend the area of benefit to include the area which is within a three mile radius of the area of benefit and failing that the area which is within a five mile radius of the area of benefit. For the purposes of this clause an established connection shall mean a connection with the area of benefit acquired through residency, a place of work or a familial connection, as shall be determined from time to time at the discretion of the trustees.2) The provision of land for a school within the meaning of the Education Acts as defined in section 578 of the Education Act 1996 as amended from time to time and any regulations made under the Education Acts (including as an Academy) in the area of benefit.3) The advancement of education amongst persons being under the age of 21 years and resident in the area of benefit or its surrounding area.4) The provision of land for a shared space in the area of benefit for the use of the inhabitants of the area of benefit or its surrounding area without distinction of political, religious or other opinions, including use for:(a) meetings, lectures and classes, and(b) other forms of recreation and leisure-time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life for such inhabitants.5) The land identified in part 1 (a) of the schedule to this scheme must be retained by the trustees for the use of the object numbered 1) (a).6) (a) Subject to clause 6 (b), the land identified in part 1 (b) of the schedule to this scheme must be retained by the trustees for the use of the object numbered 2).(b) The trustees have the power to lease or license the land identified in part 1 (b) of the schedule to this scheme in furtherance of the object numbered 2).”“the charity” means the charity identified at the beginning of this scheme.the “existing governing document” means the scheme dated 1 April 2004 as amended by a Scheme dated 11 October 2018.“the area of benefit” means the Parish of Babraham in the County of Cambridgeshire.“the trustees” means the trustees of the charity acting under this scheme and “trustee” means one of the trustees.the “residents” means those beneficiaries of the charity who live in the homes and “resident” means one of those residents.“the Commission” means the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
