The object of the Club is to provide a safe environment for association football and arrange social activities for its members regardless of gender, race, religion or ability. The club also aims to promote football and sport as a means of enhancing health education, learning opportunities and local community involvement, with young people acquiring sporting and personal skills from which they will derive lifelong benefits, self-respect, self-esteem, - self confidence, integrity and respect for others.

The key activities undertaken by the Club includes:

Report from Mr Tim Cooper (Chairman) at club’s AGM on 21[st] June Summary of the main 2021 achievements of the charity during the year Chairman’s Report AGM 21[st] June 2021 Good evening to everyone who has been able to join. I would like to start by thanking you all for attending and to thank all our members who put in volunteering hours over the course of the year to ensure we are able to provide our young players with a vibrant, safe and fun sporting environment here at Mayford. Children come to Mayford to be active, learn together as friends on the pitch, and build lasting friendships off the pitch. With the Covid-19 pandemic continuing to create a lot of anxiety and uncertainty throughout the year, I believe we should all feel very positive about the way we have adapted to the conditions of each lockdown and re-opening, all the way through to the latest extension of maintaining social distancing rules to July 19[th] . Fingers crossed for the vaccination program to continue at pace and for normality to return as soon as possible. I would like to thank Terry Marsh in particular for his services as club Covid officer, preparing rounds of risk assessments and providing counsel on the best routes forward for the club. I would like to thank Tina Cavenham who is stepping down as club Trustee this year. Tina has been diligent in her sense checking of the club’s financial position as well as doing so much both for her age group, where she will continue, as well as across the club, for the past 7 years. Tina is a rare Mum coach, something we need to see much more of. I would also like to thank Mary Murphy who is stepping down as our Child Welfare Officer, with Terry Marsh taking on the role going forward. Mary has fulfilled this essential club role so well, helping to navigate important child welfare scenarios over the course of her tenure, as well as making sure our volunteering team are all compliant with DBS requirements. Thank you Mary. We have been extremely fortunate to have long serving Mayford champions Dave Mills and Dave Spiller returning to us. Dave Mills as club Trustee (he already has 12 years as Chair under his belt), and Dave Spiller taking up a second term as club Secretary. Alongside the Dave’s our new club Treasurer Sachin has provided fast and accurate financial reporting and is extremely pro-active seeking potential funding sources and suggesting ways for the club to invest to improve what we have. Thank you to all of you for your support to me in my role as Chair. A few weeks ago, we learnt of the sad news of the passing of former club Secretary Don Pugh. Don was club Secretary for a remarkable 15 seasons from 95/96 through to 09/10. Dave Mills paid the respects of the club at Don’s funeral and a donation was made to Woking hospice in Don’s memory. I will also be arranging for a plaque to be put up in the club house in Don’s memory. The club also remembered young Dan Garvey, with John Longley running an annual testimonial match in Dan’s memory with his former team mates. They are a great bunch of lads and testimony to the longterm friendships that being involved in our club brings. Thank you John for making this happen each year and for raising funds for the Great Ormond Street Hospital through the testimonial. Despite the Covid-19 situation, the season has been very active with more than 220 young players enjoying training and matches in either the Surrey Primary League, South Surrey Youth League and the Surrey Youth League. volunteers are superb. Whether reinforcing players confidence and development with positivity and praise, running the line, or putting the goals out and away and setting up respect ropes, all that you do absolutely makes the heart of our club. I know first-hand of the patience involved with coaching, and remain so impressed when I look around the club and see, for example, Steve Brennan leading coaching with nearly 30 in the under 6 group with all of the players focused and having great fun. I hope you will all celebrate your seasons within your teams and year groups and we will hold a club wide event later in the summer to all celebrate together. I’m delighted that we have been able to keep playing areas open at the club over the summer and it is good to see this being put to good use by all age groups The pitches are also looking good and responding well to recent seeding, treatment and rain!! A big shout of thanks to both Ben Dutton and Geoff Newman for their support looking after our pitches. Unfortunately, we have not been able to hold the club’s annual summer tournament again this year, but I am confident that we will be back next year for another fabulous showcase of the club’s DNA to all that visit us. You will also all have probably noticed that the club house is undergoing renovation work. Surrey Country Council are repairing the roof and have covered the full cost of doing this. We need to be patient for a few more weeks while the work is finished and will then put into action additional maintenance plans and have a club fix-up event to bring the clubhouse back into full use. This year we trialled adult football at the club, with the Woking Vets using our 11 a-side pitch. Despite the benefits of additional club income and providing a pathway within the club to adult football, it was fairly decided through vote that concerns, including overuse of the pitch, should mean we should not continue to host the Vets. Lee Cooke and the Woking Vets remain close friends of the club and it remains important to try different things at the club. Some will work, others will not. We have recently developed a relationship with LPA academy who are providing summer camps to managed groups of players through to under 12. The feedback from the first 2 camps has been very positive and we look forward to hosting LPA for 2 camps in August. The LPA team are keen to explore ways that they can support the club include through dedicated coach training sessions. This year is my last year as Chair of our club. I have served for 3 years as Trustee and 2 years as Chair and will be returning to coaching next season. I have truly enjoyed being closely involved in running the club and hope I have been able to leave the shirt in a better place – the mantra behind everything we strive to achieve. If we all leave things in a better place for the next person coming in to volunteer, in whatever capacity, we will keep on the right track. I made this point at the last committee meeting and received a note shortly after from our under 7 coach Andy, asking to be put in touch with the new under 6 coach so he can share tips on getting started. This is just one example of all of you thinking of others coming in, thank you for doing this. So as I step down, my final word is to mention the latest Nationwide sponsored FA advert. If you haven’t seen it yet, look out for it in the Euro coverage. It features a young group of players, in orange, supporting and encouraging each other and standing together as a team. The values that bring this together are acceptance, kindness and respect . As I saw

this, I thought about our club and how these values already reflect who we are and what we do as a club. It’s an honour to be part of this.
