Structure, governance and management

Kathor Muslim Society of UK is constituted as a charitable trust registered with the charity commission in February 2006. It is governed by a constitution last updated 25[th] September 2005.

Fundraising & Other Income

KMS UK raised £25,371 throughout the UK and received £266 as interest on bank accounts, donations and accrued interest on Gift Aid. A total of £3,066 was received in Gift Aid income.

No new membership fees were received.

Rental Income

Rental income from the two properties that the Society owns totalled £10,960 10 Stroma Way, Nuneaton, Warwickshire CV10 7LR 19 Gillett Close, Nuneaton, Warwickshire CV11 5XW

Volunteers

All the work carried out by individuals on behalf of the charity is on a voluntary basis.

Summary of the main achievements during this financial period

During the year the charity paid out grants totalling £26,610, this sum was donated to worthwhile causes. The primary beneficiaries are Kathor based NGO’s and individual students needing financial support.

Our programme of support in Kathor is now well established across the spectrum of identified needs in the area. We continue to look for areas where our assistance could be of benefit, expanding areas of work as and when needed.

We also re-launched a UK Grants programme in December 2022, there was an improved take-up from the initial launch in 2020.

Health & Medical

Medical assistance is delivered through the Kathor Medical Trust and other NGOS’s that provide out-patient and in-patient treatments covering a broad range of health services and medical procedures.

We have continued to build upon work from previous years, this includes:

In Kathor, the Society working with local NGO’s supported the following activities in this area:

UK Educational Awards Programme

This programme was relaunched in December 2022, we received improved interest over the initial launch in 2020. Funds were not allocated in this financial reporting year.

Financial review

Reserves Policy

The Society currently holds total reserves of £233,910, of this £155,165 is held in cash reserves. £20,529 of the cash reserves are held as Restricted Reserves.

Principal Funding Sources

Funding for the charity’s activities come from two principal sources:

The majority of donations collected during the Ramadan appeal is in the form of Zakat. Any Gift Aid earned on donations is also used as grants to needy causes; all administrative costs are covered through other income.

Investment Policy and Objectives

Interest

The Society in line with Islamic teachings does not consider Interest earned as Halal (acceptable) and therefore we use this money for charitable causes with no benefit to the Society in line with Islamic teachings.

Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of THE KATHOR MUSLIM SOCIETY of UK .

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 05 April 2023.

As the Charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5) (b) of the Act.

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:
