**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**

In shaping our objectives for the year and planning our activities, the trustees have considered the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit. The strategies employed to achieve the charity’s aims and objectives are to: Present a broad range of theatre productions and concerts for the enjoyment and education of our local community. We offer opportunities for a broad range of people to get involved in arts activity exploring their own creative powers. We provide a means by both amateur and professional artists can develop. We involve young people in the arts to help encourage a culture in which different age ranges play a complementary part. Putting these strategies into action we have three major areas of activity which are: Musical theatre productions which are performed in the major theatres of the area, Plays which are performed by the Players in smaller theatres around the area and concerts which are given by the Singers in both theatres and small venues, a number of which are on behalf of other charities.

Section D Achievements and performance

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

**Chairman’s Report** Good evening everyone, and welcome to P&P’s AGM 2026. It’s lovely to have you all with us tonight. **MTS Report 2025 -** The first performance of the year for MTS was the society’s joint production, _**It’s A Spring Thing**_ , here at the Spire. Members of the cast delighted the audience with their performance of a selection of songs from their upcoming musical, _**My Fair Lady**_ **-** In May, _**My Fair Lady**_ opened at Lighthouse, directed and choreographed by Claire Camble-Hutchins, joined once again by Musical Director, Chris McDouall. The show was an absolute triumph and reviewers and audience members raved!: _An email, sent from a first time P&P audience member, blown away by the standard of the show, wrote: “We have seen numerous shows in the West End over the years and your production was the best we have ever seen.”_ Reviewer, Lisa, from What’s Good To Do, wrote that: _“From the moment the curtain rose, the audience was transported into the bustling world of Edwardian London, with stunning set designs and exquisite costumes that perfectly captured the essence of the era...As the Final bows were taken, the applause was thunderous and rightly so.”_ Marilyn Barber reviewing for Dorset View, said of the production, that it was… _“Joyful, exuberant, polished and clearly rehearsed to the nth degree…will surely go down as one of the company’s finest productions”_ And Liz Turner from Encore, simply said: _“The show is a triumph”_ **-** November saw a return to The Barrington Theatre, Ferndown, for our annual musical showcase, _**History in Harmony,**_ in which all the numbers marked defining moments in history. This year, directed and choreographed by Kellie Oxborrow, with myself as Musical Director, (with Chris McDouall taking over as conductor for the shows) and children’s choreographer, Leanne Holland. As always, the cast pulled out all the stops and not only sounded amazing but the costumes and acting in this show were simply outstanding. Marilyn Barber, again reviewing for Dorset View wrote that… _“Throughout the show, the dancing and the costumes are spot on, and the audience is treated to some excellent solo performances from singers too numerous to mention.”_

Section D Achievements and performance

And we sold out prior to opening night!!! **-** In December, MTS took part in the societies two, annual Christmas performances. The first, _**A Christmas Cracker**_ , held here at the Spire, and the second, at St Aldhelm’s church, as part of their Christmas Tree Festival, _**A Concert of Songs Carols and Readings**_ , both of which you will hear more about in the following sectional reports. - A quick plug for the next big MTS production, _**We Will Rock You.**_ This is shaping up to be another cracking show! We have the most stonking leads and the chorus are incredible – they never stop! If they aren’t on stage, they are singing offstage! As with _**Elf**_ and _**Oliver!**_ , we are delighted to be putting on both a School’s performance, on the Friday morning, and an Accessible/Relaxed performance on the Saturday morning. The School’s one has already sold out, with pupils from 8 local schools coming along! Particularly exciting, is that for the first time, we have a BSL interpreter, an amazing lady called Wendy Ebsworth MBE, signing at the Accessible performance and we really hope that this will encourage those with hearing impairment to come along and enjoy the show. Both of these performances will bring into the theatre those who may never have been to a live production before and those for whom theatre is often inaccessible, intimidating or uncomfortable. If you know any individuals or groups who might be interested in coming along to the Saturday morning performance, please do put them in touch as we are really passionate about making theatre accessible to as many people as possible. Don’t miss this one, tickets are selling fast! **Clare Albanozzo: MTS Rep Players Report:** The Players began the year by taking part in Spring Thing in April, supporting the wider Poole & Parkstone Productions programme and showcasing the talents of members from across the society. In June the Players celebrated a very special milestone — the 20th anniversary of the group. Members old and new gathered at The Spire on Poole High Street to mark the occasion, enjoying an afternoon of performances, shared memories and afternoon tea. It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on two decades of productions, creativity and friendships formed through the Players.

We were particularly delighted that one of the three founder

members, Pat Bishop, was able to join us for the celebration. Sadly, Pat passed away in August at the remarkable age of 104. Pat led an extraordinary life in the theatre, performing in plays, pantomimes, revues and musicals before going on to direct for many years, including work with Stratford operatic societies at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. After moving to Poole in 1993 she became a key figure within Poole & Parkstone Productions, directing numerous musicals and playing a central role in the formation of the Players in 2005. Pat directed the Players from their very first production, an evening of one-act plays titled Dining Out, and continued to inspire members for many years, directing productions until as recently as 2021 when, at the age of 100, she directed her final Summer Cocktail. Pat’s energy, enthusiasm and unmistakable presence made a lasting impression on so many members, and she will be remembered with great affection. After 104 remarkable years, her show has come to the end of its run and she has taken her final bow — exiting stage left quietly, gently and peacefully. After the summer break, rehearsals began for the autumn production, Ladies’ Day by Amanda Whittington. Performed at The Spire on Poole High Street in October and directed by Genette Churchill, the play proved to be a lively and entertaining production which was warmly received by audiences. A review noted that the play had been “expertly recreated… at the atmospheric venue of The Spire,” praising the performances and direction. The production was also a success financially, raising a profit of £1,048, which was a fantastic result for the group. The Players are currently rehearsing for their next production, The Rise and Fall of Little Voice by Jim Cartwright, expertly directed by Deanna Langford and being performed at the Barrington, Ferndown next week. With a stunning cast, beautiful songs and a powerful and dramatic story at its heart, the Players are very much looking forward to bringing this much-loved play to the stage. As always, a heartfelt thank you goes to all members who have supported the Players over the past year, both on stage and behind the scenes. The Players continue to be a welcoming and creative part of Poole & Parkstone Productions and we look forward to another exciting year of performances ahead. Today we booked the rights for 2:22 A Ghost Story for 2027. **Clare I’Anson: Players Rep Daytime Voices Report**

Section D Achievements and performance

Daytime Voices have had another busy year in 2025, and the choir continues to go from strength to strength. Although we no longer advertise externally, membership continues to grow, with most new members joining through recommendations from friends.

We currently have 114 members on the register, with an average weekly attendance of around 80. This represents a significant proportion of the overall P&P membership, and Daytime Voices members’ subscriptions make an important contribution to the dayto-day running of the society as reflected in the Society Accounts. Daytime Voices members also provide fantastic support for other P&P sections as audience members at concerts and events.

This year we introduced a dedicated WhatsApp group for Daytime Voices, including a notices group and a social group, both of which have proved very successful.

The camaraderie within the choir continues to be one of its most special qualities. Members regularly support one another through illness or injury with cards and messages, and many genuine friendships have grown from Tuesday mornings together. I feel very privileged to play a small part in such a supportive community.

During 2025, the choir performed in a number of concerts including: • _**It’s a Spring Thing**_ - March 2025 • _**Summer Serenade**_ - July 2025 • An informal “Friends and Family Concert” - October 2025 • _**P&P’s Christmas Cracker**_ - December 2025

Last year I reported that we had moved to a two-matinee format for the Spire concerts. While the concerts have been successful and remain profitable, feedback from members suggests that performing twice in one afternoon can be challenging for some. Although we encourage participation in both performances, this has sometimes affected participation levels and audience numbers. In particular, the 2pm performance tends to be significantly better attended than the 4:30pm concert, which appears to be the preferred option for many.

Some feedback also raised concerns about perceived inequality between sections, particularly during the 2025 Christmas Cracker, where the Singers performed more material. This was largely due to the shorter rehearsal period following our October “Friends and Family concert”, leaving only five rehearsals to prepare the

Christmas programme. It was certainly not a deliberate decision to favour one section. However, it is important that members feel heard, and after consultation with Jane we hope we have addressed many of the concerns raised. We always encourage members to continue sharing feedback with us. A positive outcome from these discussions is that Daytime Voices will hold its first formal standalone concert on Saturday, 10th October 2026 in the Rose Hall. This will allow us to showcase the choir independently, and we plan to include members’ favourite repertoire from previous programmes. Rehearsals for this concert will begin in the Summer term. It was also wonderful to see such a strong turnout from Daytime Voices members at the P&P Ball in September, which was a hugely enjoyable evening. The 2025 "Star Award" was presented to Sarah Maybury, one of our original choir members. Sarah provides an enormous amount of behind-the-scenes support that helps everything run smoothly. Her organisation, kindness and willingness to help others makes her an invaluable part of Daytime Voices, and I am incredibly grateful for all she does. Our annual Christmas party took place on 17th December in the Rose Hall again. With over 80 attendees, we have outgrown other local venues, and using the Rose Hall helps keep the event affordable and accessible to members. This year we worked with a local caterer, which proved very successful, and enjoyed an informal carol sing as part of the entertainment. As always, it was a true P&P team effort. Many thanks to Chris Roberts and her team for arranging decorations and to Philippa from Bright Starz Buffets for providing the excellent food. Daytime Voices, and their supporters, continue to make a major contribution to P&P’s charitable fundraising, with an amazing £616 across the society in 2025 for EDS-UK, (much of this coming from combined concerts and the Friends and Family concert donations and cake sales). On a personal note, I would like to thank everyone who supports fundraising for EDS UK through P&P. Whether it is contributing to retiring collections, baking for cake sales, or buying raffle tickets, the generosity of our members is always incredibly moving. Whilst not strictly Daytime Voices, I would also like to acknowledge a particularly generous £1000 donation to EDS UK from Harry and Claudette, members of the _**Sing for the Summer**_ audience in 2025. EDS UK has been an invaluable source of support since my diagnosis. Their courses and resources have helped me better understand and manage the ways EDS affects daily life. In October

2025, I was able to attend a specialist course on how EDS affects the voice and strategies for keeping it healthy, which was heavily subsidised by the charity. This was incredibly informative and as a singer, something very important to me. Opportunities like this are only possible thanks to the generosity of donations to the charity, and I am extremely grateful to everyone who contributes. Finally, the AGM is an opportunity to thank all those who help make Daytime Voices possible. • Joanna Sims, who welcomes every new member with a beautiful cross-stitched name badge. • Chris Roberts, for her ongoing support with socials • Paul Sarony, who reliably arrives early each week to help with setup • Steve Broomfield, the choir “milkman”! • Everyone who volunteers on the tea and chair rota - organising this for 80+ people each week is no small task • And Sarah Maybury, whose organisation and support at the desk is invaluable

Thank you to every member for their presence and contribution, our Tuesday morning rehearsals are such a supportive and joyful place and are truly a highlight of the week for me.

The biggest thanks however, go to our ever InSpiring musical team, Chris McDouall, Corrine Rigler, and of course Jane McDouall. Thank you for everything you do. Here’s to another year of fun, friendship and beautiful singing in 2026!

## **Rosie Luxford: Daytime Voices Rep Singers Report:**

One of the things I love about Singers is the interests and activities outside the group that make the time with the group so interesting. We have artists, musicians, teachers, nurses and writers and many other professions, all contributing to the common good and it’s a pleasure to be associated with you all. Talking of the common good, in February of 2025, composer and conductor John Rutter received his knighthood, the world could do with more like him. What would we sing without him?

Section D Achievements and performance

In February 2025 the Christmas concert for Wareham in December was being planned. More about this later. David Herrington, our digital note basher extraordinaire had a 75th birthday bash at Hamworthy Club in March. Lots of colds in 2025 but 5th April saw the arrival of the _**A Spring Thing**_ in the Spire and two performances. ‘Turtle Dove’ was a strong favourite. Singers display multitudinous talents by having some members on stage for _**My Fair Lady,**_ while others, male and female, man the front of house under guidance, as always, from Jane McDouall. Singers sing at the VE celebrations at Ferndown in May. I’m sure Singers won’t mind that the show was stolen by the Mayor of Ferndown when he reacted to the presence of actor Martin Clunes. Never had an expletive been so accurate and funny. Rehearsals begin with our good friends Poole Symphonic for the Proms at the Lighthouse on 9 July, always good fun. Our sold out _**Sing for the Summer**_ concert took place on 5 July, with the obligatory potato peeling party on the Friday evening. We sang at _**Summer Serenade**_ on 19 July. On 24 July my pickled onions were ready. My home cured bacon was ready on 30 July. P&P Dinner dance on 20 September and rehearsals for Christmas begin. I always find this a little disconcerting singing about deep midwinter on a warm autumnal day. However, _The Twelve Days of Christmas Confusion_ being ‘off book’ caused much debate as did ‘I can’t believe it’s not Rutter’. Christmas dates finalised and language skills in Estonian with _Omnis on Inimene_ are thought to be improving, but in all honesty we can’t tell. 12 December off to Wareham for merrymaking in front to the mayor and a welcome sojourn to the Baker’s Arms 13 December the Spire with Daytime voices and readers for _**A Christmas Cracker**_

19 December St Aldhelm’s Christmas concert with readers as part of St Aldhelm’s Christmas Tree Festival. The song 12 Days of Christmas Confusion, as mentioned previously, ends the concert and 2025 with Singers on a high note. 2026 Arrives. Despite their skill set, Singers decide not to re-build Noah’s ark. Spring slowly arrives and Spring Thing, the first concert of the year on 14th March arrives on a beautiful spring day.

In giving thanks to people for the contribution they have made for Singers, there will always be some whom I have forgotten and if I do, then please forgive me. Firstly, I thank the chair for being my constant nudge. To Carol for being a brilliant pianist and for understanding how Singer’s sing, wonderful. For Rosie for the brilliant publicity graphics. For Chris McDouall for sitting next to me and not forgetting Chris’s partner in crime, our Jane, our ever-patient MD and teacher.

I did finally want to say thank you to somebody who is not here and that is Jean Chambers. When P&P founded Singers in 1998 there were those at the time, who cried out that it was not a good idea and we were not a choir Society and so it went on but Jean picked up the baton and ran with it. She and I had our ups and downs but we had a good partnership and some really successful times with both concerts and festival singing. When she left Singers to form Viva Voce, we remained in touch. Jean retired from Viva Voce late last year and a number of us attended their final concert. Jean is enjoying a rest and her garden. So, my thanks to her for all that she contributed to Singers and also to those who have continued to make Singers such a successful section of this Society. If my maths is correct 2026 this will be our 28[th] year, well done everyone!

## **Treasurer’s Report – Year to December 2025**

Non show income in 2025 was 1% higher than 2024 at £33,135 compared to £32,800. For MTS/Singers, average membership remained level at around 70 members (72 in 2024). DTV continues to grow: total subscriptions in the year were 26% higher than 2024; and average weekly attendance fluctuated between 60 and 75 most weeks. Patrons subscriptions were £580 (2024 £608), and we were earned £1,200 of interest on our cash deposits during the year.

Our day-to-day running costs rose by 5% from £28,500 to £29,760. The largest increase was rehearsal costs which went up by 13% from £17,800 to £20,096. Up until August, the session rate charged by The

Spire was £64 a 30% increase from 2024 (£48) and from September that increased to £68 (a 10% increase). To quantify that cost in terms of membership subscriptions, MTS and Singers need an average of 85 members to cover their rehearsal costs. For day-to-day running costs, we generated a surplus of £3,375 (2024 £4,347). Production results: It wasn’t too surprising that _**My Fair Lady**_ made a loss of £6,500. We knew it would be an expensive show to stage, particularly in terms of set and costume hire, and unlikely to attract as much interest as _**Oliver!**_ so tickets sales were lower (£40,750 compared with £55,800) But the MTS November concert, _**History in Harmony**_ , at The Barrington produced a profit of £1,215 and seems to becoming a popular feature. Barrington again managed to challenge us with no warning, by reducing the permitted seating capacity in the hall, so in effect we practically sold out all performances. An unusual problem to face!

Both _**A Spring Thing**_ and P&P’s _**A Christmas Cracker**_ were performed at the Spire and involved both Singers and DTV. They made £901 and £1,360 respectively. _**Sing for the Summer**_ turned a profit of £849 and St Aldhelm’s £662. 2025 was The Players’ 20th Anniversary. So they didn’t perform a play in March as usual, instead they held an afternoon tea party at the Spire inviting current and previous members and performed a few short pieces. In October they performed _**Ladies Day**_ at the Spire which made a profit of £1,048. _**Summer Serenade**_ in July made £909 in profit.

So, in total, performances made a profit for the society of £473. During 2025 we collected £726 in donations for EDS (2024: £1,059), and paid £250 to St Marks Church in July and £515 to St Aldhelm’s Church as their share of income for the December concert (2024: £770). Moving on to the Balance Sheet: Cash reserves were £49,148 as at 31/12/25, down from £53,940 at the end of the previous year, and we have paid £4,470 in advance for upcoming shows compared to £4,180 at December 2024. Reserves have increased by £3,848 on the previous year and at the year-end stand at £49,940. As required by law the accounts have been independently examined by Jamie Luxford, a former treasurer of P&P. No errors were identified and no amendments deemed necessary.

**Social Activity Report**

Broadstone Golf Club, was again the venue for the Society Ball, and the food and service was as superb, so we have booked it again for 3rd October this year - booking forms will be sent out soon. Members from all sections enjoyed the delicious food, danced to the fantastic DJ Tom’s disco and played games to win some very random prizes! The DAVE and Star awards were presented to members of each section for their acts of kindness and helpfulness and other various antics! A huge thank you to Holly Chivers, and her fantastic team, at the Golf Club for making the evening such a success.

Post-rehearsal drinks and food at the Spire café, Wetherspoons and Brewers Arms pub have become regular weekly social events for many members of all sections and are a great way for members to really get to know each other.

## **Thankyous**

As always, there are so many people to thank for all their hard work in keeping our society running this year – it’s no mean task but we have a fantastic team. Particular thanks to our committee members, our production teams: directors, choreographers, musical directors, rehearsal pianists, stage managers, props and tech teams. But, thank you also to all those who help with costumes, moving things, setting up, putting away, making tea, FOH duties, ticket sales, promo days, putting up posters etc etc etc. you are all invaluable.

**Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves**

Reserves are sometimes needed to bridge the gap between the spending and receiving of resources and to cover other expenses. The trustees consider that the ideal level of reserves as at 31 December 2024 would be £20,000 which amounts to about half of the cost of a major production.

## **Independent examiner's report on the accounts**

## **Section A Independent Examiner’s Report**

**Report to the trustees** Charity Name Poole and Parkstone Productions **On accounts for the year** 31 December 2025 **Charity no** 1112901 **ended (if any) Set out on pages** 1 (remember to include the page numbers of additional sheets) I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended **31/12/2025** . **Responsibilities and** As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the **basis of report** accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

**Independent** I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have **examiner's statement** come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

- the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or

- the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or

- the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
