Activities
The Freud Museum exists to promote the intellectual and cultural legacy of Sigmund Freud's life and work and to further their contemporary relevance through educational activities and exhibitions. The museum conserves Freud's last home at 20 Maresfield Gardens with its antiquities collection and archives, as a historical memorial to his life and work and as a source of inspiration and enjoyment.
Objects: The purposes of the Charity (‘the Objects’) are: 4.1.1 to maintain, operate and improve a museum to collect, safeguard and make accessible books, art works, artefacts and other items connected with Sigmund Freud’s life, his work, his family (in particular his daughter Anna Freud) and with the history of psychoanalysis at the property located at 20 Maresfield Gardens, London NW3 5SX) or such other property as may from time to time be required or expedient ('the Premises') and to provide access to the Premises to the public so that they can explore the Museum and its collections for inspiration, learning and enjoyment; 4.1.2 to advance the appreciation of the architectural and historical nature of the Premises located at 20 Maresfield Gardens, London NW3 5SX and its significance as the final home of Sigmund and Anna Freud; 4.1.3 to promote, encourage, improve, research and publish, advance and disseminate knowledge and appreciation of the life, work, medical, psychoanalytic and other scientific activities of Sigmund Freud and to stimulate interest in his intellectual and cultural legacy and awareness of the relevance of his ideas to contemporary society;4.1.4 to discover, assemble, and collect published material, manuscripts, photographs, information and articles of whatever kind relating to the life, work, medical, psychoanalytic and other scientific activities of Sigmund and Anna Freud, and to ensure their preservation for the benefit of the public.
