SHELFIELD YOUTH SUPPORT GROUP Registered Charity No: 1112135 Trustees Report for the year ended 31st December 2023 Background Shelfield Youth Support Group was founded to help find activities for young peoplè. Over the years we have worked with Walsall Youth Services and run our own youth activities. Unfortunately, we have seen Council cut backs with youth services. Some years ago we identified premises to establish a youth drop-in-shop. This was not received well in the locality and so we opened a charity shop. Activities of the year The charity has not received any grants but has continued to operate the charity shop. The funds raised have enabled us to help local youth activity groups with their costs, helping young people to have a better quality of social life in the area. We have provided gifts for children at Christmas. We have also been able to make grants to local schools, focusing on poorer areas, and other causes the Trustees have felt it appropriate for the charity to support. Trustees The trustees who have served during the year and since have been: Mr J D Lymn (Chair) Mrs D Lymn Mr C W Pittaway Mrs W Pittaway (until 17th June 2024) In addition to the trustees, the charity is supported by several volunteers drawn from the local area. The charity would not be able to function without the support of the trustees arid volunteers. Trustees are DBS checked. Changes in trustees do not happen very often but if a new trustee is recruited appropriate training would be given by the existing trustees. Address The charity's registered address where it also operates from is at: 50 Spring Lane Shelfield Walsall, WS4 1AT This is at the heart of the principal area served by the charity and is open on set days each week.
Public benefit The trustees have had regard to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit. They feel that the donations made to organisations benefiting young people in the local community represent contributions for the public benefit. Financial review The charity's income for the year was £25,423:IBefore donations and grants there was an excess of receipts of £14,762. Allowing for donations and grants totalling £16,545, there was an excess of payments for the year of £1,783. The excess of payments has been deducted from the balance of funds brought forward of £25,358, leaving a balance of funds to carry forward to 2024 of £23,575. Reserves policy It is the trustees, policy to retain reserves of £10,000, as a reserve to be able to continue in the event that it is unable to raise funds. Approved by the Trustees and signed on their behalf on the 24th October 2024 JDLymn Chair
