to focus on Sikh advocacy in the UK. Europe as well as USA and

Australia, whith is outside the scope of this report).

and is not. We Issued our Global Sikh Civil and Human Rights

slnce 2013 to not only meet the adM)r*cy needs of the Sikh community
in the UK but also to continue to provide advocacy support to Sikhs in
other parts of Eurry, wh8r8 significant thanges to legislation regarding
religious eypr&8sion have been ocajrring in recent years.

Our teams and vDlunteers have been on the ground in Turkey to serve
the most urgent needs of the vicknm8 of the eathquake. In additlon we

Punlab.

As a r8sult of FW)vety. strain ￿ faming land, and debt. evory year sees
a sad pl￿noMenOn In lThJia'. famEr suiride. In additlon to the loss of lrfe,
the family remainiThJ is often left without a bread-winner. Wrth no means
of support. and a tiny trickle of govemment aid rf any. children tend to be
pulled out of schoof to help eam a Irving, their edljcatiors cast aside, and
the cycle of poverty bgjins again. RAF aims to heW families in need by
providng a stpend as as childrnn rnmain in thus helping to
make erKls meet and also making a step lowards breaking the cycle of
pmty. 50 PanJ&)i fam)er suiciae widows receive monthly pensions
from UNITED SIKHS. Going fopward RAF will aim to provide v￿rkshopS
and ongoing support to help women seek micro4oans or other funding
and set up their own l)usinesses for a sustainable and enw*wered
fulure.

In the UK. UNITED SIKHS has a Helpdesk and Immigration Surgery
since 2W8 at the Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Southall. The helpdesk has

in gener81 wilh any issués to allevlate their problems end concems. The
vast majority required advocacy. 8￿CIal and welfare asslstance as VMII as
help with imMKJrati￿-re18tOd matters.

The STARAE proJerA was Start￿ by UNrrED SIKHS in rural Pan￿ts in
2CNJ4. STARAE. whith stands for Stholafships as Tool to Accelerate and
Rèvive Academic Education. was extèndéd in 2013 to 39 8tLKl8nts in
Pakistan with support from the Bangkok Singh Sabha Gurdwara
Education Fund and the Slngh Madan Foundat￿)n. UNITED SIKHS.
STARAE stholarships aim to promot8 excéll8nc8 by providing fmancial
help to nTh)tivate students and 8ceel8rats their academic perfomian&8.
Undèr th8 STARAE proJ8d in P8sh8W8r UNITED SIKHS pays the fees
and other expenses directy to the schools of th8 spC￿sor8d chlldren. The
students do well wll also bè hel)ed to study at a local university.
